^ ^ ^ restored correctly/originally... Then we NOT talkin' about the usual wham, bam, thank you, ma'am kind of restoration here. You talking about doing this at a minimum...
Sanctifier wrote:Media blasting... New/NOS OEM replacement body panels where needed...
"Custom" bodywork & spray/bake paint job.
New/NOS OEM drivetrain & engine parts for a complete rebuild/restoration of almost everything that needs it...
and almost everything will.

All that would need a HUGE buget. Who knows, maybe upwards of $100-125k?!? ... plus the cost of the car!
Too rich for my blood! But then it is a Lotus Esprit Turbo we talkin' about.
They go for 15k-30k pounds in the UK these days, depending on condition.

That size buget will do more than one project car for me. Not too interested in OEM Restorations anyway.
I'll stick to doing my RestoMods thanks. Same (or better) performance at a much lower cost... Works for me!

wouldn't recommend media blasting.............it's a VARI-injection-molded shell (basically plastic) Just needs sanding and repairs to any cracks
First thing would be to remove the body from the frame. 99% sure the top of the backbone chassis is corroded. I'd buy a new Spyder replacement backbone. Similarly, unless I can verify the rear subframe is not compromised (welds can crack an are nigh invisible to the naked eye), I'd replace it........complete re-bush as well (not cheap_
Electrical system is best replaced, not repaired....too many gremlins
Cooling system would need to be revamped with better rad and fans, plus new piping

Engine should be stripped and fully rebuilt, assuming not too much corrosion in the water passages..........best option would be a later model engine...those are properly sorted but will run u about 50k

Interior is another headache by itself...............custom replacement leather will not be cheap............
So.........do you spend 200k to do it right, or just buy a good Esprit and do the unmentionable.....

Whey Nigie......ya quick.

Another from the S&S stable:
Boosted A+ 998 engine......
Custom manifold,
De-compressed 12g940 head,
High-Flowed Carb and LCB exhaust,
Custom pulleys and it peaks at 12psi boost @6000rpm 8-)

And they say this shop won't do work on original engines  .

media blasting... VARI-injection-molded shell (basically plastic) (&) the backbone chassis... IMHO that makes them prime candidates for media blasting. Baking soda for the body-shell... and more agressive media (Black Diamond) for the chassis.
Visual inspection for further damage (and an accurate repair job) would be a lot easier too.

I agree with your comments about the other sub-systems... engine, electrical, cooling, interior, etc.
It would cost a bundle! I couldn't afford to do this the way that it deserves.
I think I'll stick to my box Lancer A175X project. Much more unique and satisfying in the long run... With similar performance to the original Esprit too! :)

Really nice Mini, nigie. MUCH better looking than the chubby, ugly, over-sized modern versions IMHO.
It's a pity they didn't have a 1275 Cooper S engine to boost though. That would be the perfect "pocket-rocket" for the street... and would give some STi's and Evos stiff competition too IMHO.

Question tho: why media blast a fibreglass shell? Not like i trying to uncover rust. Wrt the backbone, I wouldn't try to repair it. That is essentially the structure of the car. Lotus didnt exactly do a wholesome job from the start and trying to repair it is a false economy. I rather put my faith in a properly re-engineered Sypder chassis.

One more thing.....if you had the HSR, would you media blast the bodykit? I personally had planned to iust rub it down and repaint. Your advice, as always, will be greatly valued
