Bulletin#

Date: Thursday 08th of November 2012
ISSUED AT:02:34PM

ITCZ ACTIVITY TO AFFECT TRINIDAD OVER THE NEXT 2-4
HOURS
Trinidad is currently experiencing cloudy to
overcast conditions with bouts of showers and
thundershowers which have been heavy at times
particularly in the Port-of-Spain area. This is
due to an active Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone
or ITCZ.

This inclement weather is forecast to persist for
at least the next 2 – 4 hours mainly over
Trinidad and to a lesser extent Tobago with
moderate to heavy showers and thundershowers.
Showers and thundershowers may be accompanied by
gusty winds. Street/flash flooding is highly
likely in heavy downpours.

Citizens are advised to be vigilant and cautious
as they conduct their daily activities given the
forecast weather conditions. All necessary
measures must be adopted to preserve life and
property. Be alert to any electrical discharges
from thundercloud activity.

WE STRONGLY UNDERSCORE THAT TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO IS
NOT UNDER ANY TROPICAL STORM THREAT, WATCH OR
WARNING.
The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service is
closely monitoring weather conditions and will
issue another bulletin if the situation
warrants.

@PapaC - not 100% sure, but will update once i find out and no one else finds out first

ODPM urges persons to proceed with caution in flooded areas and contact 511 if affected
The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM) has received reports of flash flooding in the following areas: Lower Nelson Street, Wrightson Road, Abattoir Road, Port of Spain proper, Cocorite Road (West Mall), Independence Square, South Quay and Ariapita Avenue (In-front of Princes Elizabeth Home). According to the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service’s information bulletin issued at 1:30 pm, Trinidad is currently experiencing cloudy to overcast conditions with bouts of showers and thundershowers which have been heavy particularly in the Port-of-Spain area. This is due to an active Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone and is forecast to persist for at least the next 2-4 hours. Please be advised that Trinidad and Tobago is currently not under any tropical storm threat, watch or warning.
Citizens are asked to remain calm and vigilant are asked to take note of the following:
1. Persons heading into Port of Spain are advised to delay their travel by up to four (4) hours.
2. Persons already in Port of Spain should stay in a safe place until the flooding has subsided.
3. If you have been impacted, call ODPM’s Emergency Contact Centre at 511 to make a report.
4. If your home is located in a flood or landslide prone area, move to a safe area well before flood waters rise and become impassable
5. DO NOT attempt to walk through flood waters. (As little as 6 inches/15 centimetres of water can make you fall.)
6. DO NOT drive into flooded areas. If floodwaters rise around your car, abandon the car and move to higher ground if you can do so safely.
The ODPM has alerted all first responder agencies should there be a need to render immediate assistance and is closely monitoring the situation and will notify the public of any further weather updates from the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service.

TTPS Public Information Officer Sergeant Wayne Mystar says due to the heavy rains and floods, the Priority Bus Route (PBR) is open to all vehicular traffic. However he advised motorists to exercise caution when using the PBR

While this is well intentioned, it's gonna have the effect of stranding hundreds of ppl at city gate, becos the maxis not gonna want to go thru the traffic on the PBR to go city gate.

Information Bulletin 9 November 2012
by Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service on Friday, November 9, 2012 at 1:36pm ·
Date: Friday 09th of November 2012
ISSUED AT:01:21PM

Trinidad should expect sporadic afternoon showers and thundershowers as a result of thermally driven localized instability. These conditions are expected to continue for the next two to three hours.

Some of these showers and thundershowers can be heavy or intense and will favour western districts of Trinidad but may not exclude other local districts.

Street/flash flooding and the occasional gust are likely in the vicinity of heavy showers/thundershowers.

Citizens are advised to be vigilant and cautious as they conduct their daily activities given forecast weather conditions. Be alert to any electrical discharges from thundercloud activity.

WE STRONGLY UNDERSCORE THAT TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO IS NOT UNDER ANY TROPICAL STORM THREAT, WATCH OR WARNING AT THIS TIME.

The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service is closely monitoring weather conditions and will issue another bulletin if the situation warrants.
