Yea they actually are selling them factory unlocked in the store, otherwise I would have had to wait 2-3 weeks for them to get to my house in Miami.

^ very cool, keep us updated!! 8)

Apple moved to hasty to get rid of Google Maps IMO

the Apple maps for rural areas suck and the WHOLE of T&T is effectively a rural area

they have tragarete rd as a one way street!

I hope they get it updated soon

honestly the best maps are GPS maps done by local companies since they are able to really get data for the roads.
Mora Systems has an excellent T&T map that works on Garmin and other similar portable GPS devices.

I believe the Mora map is used for the NAVfone app
http://itunes.apple.com/tt/app/navfone- ... 17394?mt=8
this has turn by turn navigation for T&T and it works perfectly
but look at the price AND what makes it worst is that SIRI can't access it so you lose almost all of SIRIs local map functionality which was the point of Apple switching to their own map system in the first place.

Duane, try out MapQuest. Never turned back since I've been using it. Ah find phreak place normel normel. Some roads needs updating but it isnt as bad as google or bing etc. It uses openstreetmaps. Only thing sucks is that you need to know Long/Lat. coordinates and I use an app called coordinates for that.

I think it was more about licensing than anything else. The license expired this year... may be negotiations didnt go well. I think you linked a post similar to this discussion a while back.

Knowing how Steve Jobs was such a perfectionist, wonder how he would have reacted if he was here to hear Apple say that the are 'just getting started' with their Maps app.

Steve Jobs must be turning in his grave for Apple stumbling on this one

the thing is though people are crying down the iPhone 5 for this and may soon be claiming "Mapgate" just like Antennagate (when people claimed the iPhone 4 antenna was faulty), this is no fault of the iPhone 5, but rather just an issue with a single App, the maps app.

i have mentioned it many times before if you want turn by turn up to date navigation,
use waze it is updated by the users so it is very accurate,
i myself take the time to add new roads and correct errors on the maps from time to time it's kind of fun, you can also search for destinations on foursquare check-ins, bing and some others. it allows you to send traffic alerts to other waze users and it will automatically alert you of traffic and divert you around the traffic it also learns your frequent driving routes it is the best one i have used and the best part is it's free, so give it a try. www.waze.com

Yep - been using Waze a couple months now, it comes in very useful. That and the Traffic Alerts forum here on 2NR are the 2 things I check every morning before I leave for work

At first I was quite surprised to see it being used by others, posting traffic reports and seeing streets being updated.

Great app, and it would be even better if even more people use it. It's available cross-platform for Android and Nokia/Symbian. Even for B/berry now as a beta version.

It still is a bit ugly and weird to navigate through but in terms of search and navigating to a point... it runs around mapquest many times.

Waze is amazing and works perfect even on edge. I dunno how they do it, and the navigation is so accurate. One thing though, how do you add street names to the map for streets without streetnames?

http://world.waze.com/dashboard/

go there to edit the maps steph, i recommend watching the yt videos on map editing first,
because if you firetruck it up it messes it up for everyone lol.
i added the roundabouts and stuff to get to couva from the highway, when i first did it i messed it up really bad and had to correct it it's still not perfect but maybe now you guys have joined you could help improve it it's good to start in your area around your house just add streets and landmarks and stuff.

Saw reports that some users are reporting slow speeds using the iPhone 5 wifi, Apple support has acknowledged the problem so we'll probably see 6.0.1 sometime in the upcoming weeks.

guys..i'm a little puzzled and need some advice/clarification for you all, i got the iphone 4s some weeks ago brand new, it wasnt unlocked, so i took it to a person and he installed cydia and told me that i will have to pay to unlock it upwards or 800$TT so i told him i will do it, he gave me it back...however, i came home i cut my sim(bmobile) and plugged it into my PC to charge it and when itunes came up, the fone said "activation required" so i pressed "ok" and then...the fone activated and it got service and is working now...can someone explain? is it that Itunes can activate ur fone? or was it that he had activated it and didnt realize? thanks!

i guess you paid him and did it?
He used a service like cutyoursim and other sites... That puts your device on the whitelist of unlocked iPhones. Glad you got it done. That is pretty costly though :(

800 TT is a good price if it was a Sprint or Verizon 4S and he unlocked it but I bet it was an AT&T one etc, in that case, you got way overcharged.

whatever happened to just touching the status bar to get to the top? :S
