TSTT 4G upgrade service advisory

Postby Duane 3NE 2NR » July 19th, 2012, 3:04 pm

TSTT Mobile service upgrades this weekend
Port of Spain, Trinidad July 19th 2012

TSTT wishes to advise that during upgrade works planned for this weekend services to customers will be affected as follows.

From 9:00 PM Saturday 21 July until 1:00 AM Monday July 23 customers will not be able to request any new services for their mobile account or receive customer service support from the mobile call centre.

From 8:30 PM Sunday 22 July to 1:00 AM Monday 23 July customers will experience some difficulty using voice, SMS and DATA services. While services should be restored after 1:00 AM on Monday 23rd July, in cases where customers do not reconnect to the network they are advised to power off their device and then turn it back on. In the unlikely event that this also does not restore regular service, customers are asked to contact the Call Centre for further assistance.

TSTT regrets any inconvenience that may arise but this work is a necessary part of the 4G network upgrades in progress.

they are upgrading TO 4G

the data on bmobiles GSM service is GPRS/EDGE. They are upgrading to HSPA+

There is already a discussion on the HSPA+ here
viewtopic.php?f=4&t=299737&hilit=HSPA

this topic will be merged with that one once the dates in this notice have passed

All mobile Carriers call HSPA+ and LTE 4G. There is no true standard that is deployed to deliver 4G.
LTE-Advanced is supposed to be 4G but we'd have to wait and see.

partially correct- there is no current standard that defines what 4G is. They were thinking about calling wiimax and the LTE 4G- giving it the definition of 4G- saying that data rates must reach XXXmbps and such in order to be called a 4G service.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IMT_Advanced

International Mobile Telecommunications-Advanced (IMT-Advanced) are requirements issued by the ITU-R of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in 2008 for what is marketed as 4G mobile phone and Internet access service.

Excerpt:
A nominal data rate of 100 Mbit/s while the client physically moves at high speeds relative to the station, and 1 Gbit/s while client and station are in relatively fixed positions.

ha! I would be surprised if TSTT was offering 10Mb/s speeds while stationary :|

the bandwidth coming into the country would have to be drastically increased to even think about approaching those speeds
