Flow's DNS servers cache

Postby Bizzare » July 14th, 2012, 1:57 pm

How long does flow take for their DNS server cache to expire. I'm pointing a bunch of domains to new servers and I'm still seeing the content from the old servers. I know the content has updated because when I visit the domains through a proxy I see the new content..... also when I use openDNS I see the new content. It's been almost 2 days now.... I called and they don't know what I'm talking about.

Is there any negatives in using openDNS permanently? I heard sometimes certain sites are inaccessible when using openDNS.

That not working. The problem is with Flow's DNS servers not on my end.

B4 when I made these changes it use to update immediately, now since their upgrade the other day, when the internet went out for two days, every change I make not updating

Not enough information to fully understand your case but.......

You have rights to complain after 48 hours.

Use Google’s, etc DNS Servers. Flow's DNS Servers are flaky

Sometimes flow won't do squat to update their DNS Servers unless they see some paperwork stating the new information.

Just use a public DNS server, not Flow's.

Try Google's public DNS servers.

yea I using that for the while. but i was wondering what the possible downsides are, and someone said latency coupled with other stuff I read.
My problem is, there are other users that access those domains and Flow is also their ISP so they're probably seeing the old content.

Call them, ask to speak to a senior person, state your case.

The senior person would have a better idea of what you're talking about.

That's why I said wait 48 hours, be prepared to give all info, like IP addresses and domain names as they may have to update it manually. If flow itself is hosting anything for your domains like reverse pointers n shyt, be prepared for paperwork

Thanks to all guys, went back to flow's dns and its mostly good now. I realize only the domains I visited gets updated within 72hrs or so. Those that pointed to a local server, are still showing old content, because I haven't visited the domains since, but I'm guessing next 72hrs they would. dunno why that's happening.

I'm having this same problem...but what annoys me is that my neighbour uses Flow also...and his own updates normally. So everytime I change nameservers on one of my websites I have to use his network to see my changes. Changed a nameserver 2 days ago, my network shows the old website but his shows the new :/
