ANyone locally could say the average cost for contacts?

It really depends on what the problem with your eyes is. I think mine are probably the most expensive. Acuvue Oasis Astigmatism. Diff prescription for each eye so had to buy two boxes of 6. Total was less than 600.

same here, costs me 575 at ferreira opt, glasses is a rebel something.....currently in the market for a new pair but can't seem to find a good designer pair in titanium since I'm allergic to the regular metal

OP! My last two frames have been purchased from optometrist today and both have gotten the spotting and scratches that you mentioned. I have been wearing glasses for the last 20 yrs from value optical and Williams in San Fernando and have never had that problem with my lenses till now so I'm glad u mentioned it. It is rather annoying after spending close to $4000 on a glasses and the lens only last for a year give or take

i wear contacts daily i use my glasses only on evenings at home its very tiring for me to drive with glasses now.
btw dont use contacts for longer than specified they may not cause irritation but the lenses actualy get clogged with dirt and begin to starve you eyes of oxygen i learned that the hard way...
so if they say 30hrs use please discard as directed

i pay 600 for 2 diff boxes of prescriptions acuvue oasis also at carters in elerslie

I been wearing glasses since I was abt 11.
I go to Ferreira Optical. For past couple yrs my prescription has remained same.
I got tested for contacts and wore the trial ones for the 1wk but I didn't like putting them in so I never bothered going to get more.
Right now I have a BCBG frame with transition lenses.

They have for extra cost some type of coating or lense tht they say don't scratch and is good for driving at night and when using computers etc. I didn't get tht though. Didn't want to spend more money.

Best Contacts: Coopervision Biofinity. Acuvue Oasys dried my eyes out. I like the fact that Biofinity is 48% water and can be worn monthly.

Current Specs Preference: Oliver's People (love love LOVE)

Current Shades Preferences: Oliver's People and Kate Spade

When I inserted contacts for the first time it took me about an hour, my eyes would blink rapidly anytime anything got close. I've been wearing them less than 6 months now and is seconds to pop them in and out. Even when one fell out accidentally I was feeling my eyeball as if the lens was still there.

I was telling some people tht after wearing transitions you really feel tht glare when you are not but they were non-glasses wearers so they didn't understand my light sensitivity.

Excuse my ignorance but as a non glasses user can someone explain why glasses are so expensive like in the $2000-$3000 range? I would have understood if that price was mainly for the technology and specifics of tested lenses but from asking ppl who wear glasses I get to understand that the price is for designer frames.

Now I'm not knocking glasses wearers but how can a piece of plastic drive up the price of glasses that much no matter which trendy designer it is to such an extent? Correct me if I'm wrong or simply misinformed ppl. :|

Nike titanium rimless with anti-reflective coating and transitions lenses.
@sharky, my frames were 2500 but they are titanium, designer and rimless.
Lenses were 1500.

Again I not knocking you or tryna be cheap but if the lens cost $1500 I'd pay $1600 for lens and frame total.

Damn I guess I am pretty cheap :|

Rimless lenses cost more because more preparation is involved. Lenses need to be stress tested and drilled or they can crack after a while.
Have these two years now. Very comfy. I just hate having to wash my glasses every morning because with anti-reflective u notice every speck of dust. Smudges give me headaches.

Well it depends on material used, brand, rimless/non rimless.
Wrt mine, rimless are always more expensive. It's made titanium so it's lighter, non corrosive and stronger than other metals. After two years, they still look new.
And designer frames always have a premium just like clothes, shoes, etc.

Reply also for higher prescriptions the cost of lens alone far higher than most designer frames, my cousin bought his new glasses at optometrist today lens came up to $3200 after spending that much not only do designer frames make the lens a little more pleasing you also take into consideration that you paying for build and material.

For example rattans selling clothes but I'm sure my Hanes wife beater last lots longer than your pack for $15( guessing here).

Plastic frames cheaper but plastic is for the children.

I've never seen a $100 frame though :s

Do they not provide vision insurance locally? I never pay full price for my frames....I am provided an equivalent of a $1500TT allowance on my frames and 20% off the remaining balance via my insurance.

But frames are relatively cheap when compared to the cost of lenses - polycarbonate (I prefer grade D or higher), transition lenses, anti-reflective/Crizial, etc. adds up.

Part of the reason I bought the glasses is Vision insurance. Haven't gotten anything back as yet though but hopefully next month.
