2012 Ford Ranger Heavy t license required?

Postby dread_2002 » April 18th, 2012, 2:14 pm

Heard rumours, the new 2012 Ford Ranger requires a Heavy T license is in order to drive and use the vehicle legally.

It is very odd, because they would potential lose sales because the truck has qualified under a Heavy T category.

What are the reasons for it qualifying under a heavy t category ?

It all depends on the MGW of the vehicle. What is it for the new ranger?

i don't see whats the big deal is - just go in Licencing office and apply for a Heavy T.

and in terms of loss of sales? all rangers are sold out, if you want one you will go on a waiting list.

The 2012 Ranger gross weight is 3200kg in the 4x4 model, Heavy T is needed for light goods vehicles more than 2950kg but less than 15240kg.

I don't foresee the trini soccer moms or the guys with fat pockets but no driving skills will take up the extra effort and get the class 4. Unless they get their class 4 through the process they did to get their class 3.....

yeah, the reverse test a bit harder than with a car,
I thought I could do it without practicing
so I just showed up on the day and hired one of the trucks there for the exam and the fella let me do a trial,
had to reschedule, lol

probably cause the prado is a suv and not a truck.. and most are registered as P and not T vehicle.

true. normally with a P plate, they don't check the class of the permit.

used to load the cherokee with the seats down (carries more than a doublecab pickup), and pay for meh P plate on the bago ferry.

exactly. the weight classification depends on the license of vehicles.

Just license the new ranger P. :P

^ If only that could have been done, however all open tray vehicle are classified as 'goods vehicle' hence mandatory 'T' licence.
