Y11 AD Wagon AC Smell

Postby KingDrive » March 11th, 2012, 1:16 pm

When driving normal, no smell...As soon as I accelerate (eg. on the highway / on a hill), a smell comes out of the ac vents with the cold breeze.
It is not a rottening smell, but someting that u dont want in your car.
It happens after kick down, approx 4000-5000rpm.
The car is a 2006 Y11 AD Wagon..
Anyone ever experience this? Any suggestions / fixes...

How can this evaporator be cleaned?
Any suggestions of places that do this?

Thanks...

Any knowledgeable A/C tech could do this for you, the materials & method they use is the problem.

The filter is basic remove & replace. You can DIY but I do encourage you to support an A/C tech.

Let them check your A/C while you there, make sure all is working right & perform a lil preventative maintenance, check you operating pressures, get a thermometer in your duct to check your cabin temp, be sure you are getting what you should out your vents(any good A/C shop should have a digital thermometer to check this...if not...it's like a doctor without a stethoscope) & clean your condenser with a pressure washer(you'll be surprised what will come off of it, it'll also clean your radiator & your A/C will perform better & engine cooler)

We sell OEM quality TYC A/C filters.

Stay away from any shop you see a tank of 415b refrigerant or cheap Chinese r134a refrigerant (half the time it's not r134a...$100 gas-up...will cost you a compressor soon & repetitive A/C fixes)

Oil-ask before what type of oil he is adding to your A/C. You want to hear PAG or PAG double end capped...not ester or mineral, look at the bottle...save your compressor!

OP u dont need to spend no $$.

Just start ur car, put ur A/C on full blast, take off recirc so it takes in air from outside.
Open ur bonnet and look under the wipers, ull see intake vents.
Spray Lysol into those vents. Alot depending on how intense the smell is.

Then go inside, take off the A/C and spray into the inner vents.

Leave that overnight.

By the next day u good as new.

Mould in the vents cause that. Lysol kills it.
