MGW / TARE sign

Do the letters have to be a specific size?
have to paint over mine.

every goods vehicle, motor omnibus or trailer shall have its tare and M.G.W. painted in white figures and letters not less than sixty-five millimetres in height upon a black ground on a conspicuous place on the right or off side of such vehicle to be specified by the Transport Officer. Such weights shall be expressed in kilograms;

tare and M.G.W. painted in white figures...

so how come all new pick ups have vinyl lettering, and getting licensed...lol..

not so, in sando licence office, whether new or old vehicle, you have to pull off those vinyl letters

I have vehicles with both vinyl and paint. Neither have posed a problem on the road or at licencing office come inspection time.
When this law was set vinyl was not as common as it is now with every jack and they brother doing basically any style/design the mind can imagine.
That being said the paint will obviously be safer. But i dont know who going to stencil out that an d paint it when i hv my squeegee handy lol..

did a few vinyl ones for some vehicles ...but they got it clear coated after by a bodyshop .. didnt get any probs with that

Mine came out of Licensing office after being inspected and was delivered to me at N & M with a black box... no markings in it.

I actually had to drive it like that for a couple days until I got it painted on.

I don't think the officers even check to see it its there worse yet to see if its the correct size.

just go to licensing office nah it have a guy painting that on in a one,he charges by the value of the vehicle,,,,,,,,,that is down south eh,,

no matter the size peeps.... make sure u all get it.. just 2 weeks ago i got charged for driving a van with out any... $1000 is the fine

there's a booth where it's painted on for you in POS licensing office. for a fee of course.

I thought the S was also to indicate Extra Heavy Vehicles? :oops:

well extra heavy vehicles need the "S" to operate on those approved Routes

my uncle is a truck driver, he said that that S gives them the right to use one ways etc in places where they cannot normally pass while loaded or pulling a trailer.

Tare weight /ˈtɛər/, sometimes called unladen weight, is the weight of an empty vehicle or container.

MAXIMUM GROSS WEIGHT (MGW), which is the combined weight of the vehicle PLUS the maximum load it is allowed to carry

Morning fellas, the wifey just ran into a L300 and he said 1000 to "put on the Tare sign" by the the licensing office in Sando, he ripping me off or that legit? and does the vehicle need to be reinspected after it is repaired?
