Cuz u own a VW? Hah...i don't have either

And again, compare apples to apples -stock for stock, or tune with tune.

The vid I posted shows a WRX and a 2010 GTi. both with a simple CBack exhaust and tune (Stage 1....no cat removal).

The result is clear. With both having the same mods, the GTi just can't keep up. And the WRX in the vid carries the "narrow" fenders...meaning it has the "lower" hp engine to start with (217 hp in stock trim - it's one of the early "3rd gen" WRX's....which were considered a disappointment)....older models (pre 2007) and later models (2010) all carry slightly bigger compressor housings.

Had it been pre 2007 WRX, or the current widebody 2010 model, the licks would have been more outstanding.

And don't forget, ecu remapping is quite common...and cheaper....on WRX's and Evos (free) than they'll ever be on a VW.

Even here, on a Golf GTI owner's forum:http://www.golfmk6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2666

...they concede that the WRX would outpower a GTI ...stock for stock. The only reason they'd buy a GTI is for build quality (which I agree with). And these guys actually own GTI's.

I'd love to have a GTI...but I'd know it's capabilities. Str8 line performance has not been, and will never be, a STOCK GTi's forte. The GTi will most likely outhandle a WRX....so on a short track....there is where it has an advantage. In terms of stock stats, the stock GTi is still a bit underpowered...and has some way to go.

And as TriniVdub says (and IIRC, he knows these cars inside out), that's where the Golf R comes in....to compete with the more powerful cars. The R would be a more appropriate comparo with a WRX....since the "R" solves the "lack of power" complaint by most GTI reviewers.

The R32 is more in STi territory.

C/D magazine has a good review:

http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/201 ... cond-drive

But there are some negatives that carry over. The GTI is still some 60 horses short of the engines found in the Mazdaspeed 3, the Chevrolet Cobalt SS, and the Subaru Impreza WRX, and acceleration is not likely to improve. The electrically assisted steering requires constant effort throughout its entire travel—it is easy enough to use, but it doesn’t have the natural corner-
loading feel of better racks.

The power deficit is hard to ignore, especially with the competition closing in fast—or forging ahead—on other objective and subjective realms. The GTI may not be quicker than the car it replaces, but its looks and the overall package increase its desirability. As before, this will likely require some explaining when the GTI places higher in a comparison test against its speedier rivals. To understand why we make such rationalizations, do us a favor and just drive one yourself.

The GTI has the weakest engine of the group...and that group is still in a lower hp bracket than an STi/Evo.

Like I said....the last one I drove was quick...but there was nothing about that GTI that could ever surprise an STi. Nor did it feel like it had the mid range of a WRX.

Again, it's a fantastic car. I'd LOVE to have one. But I won't expect it to be anywhere near STi-Evo territory. That's just wishful thinking.....kinda like looking at a 370Z and suddenly feeling better about my Tiida.

Just doesn't work that way.

Lol, yea is Mahindra. Those things are some serious workhorses though.

More info here:

Mahindra does also make those SSang Yong vehicles.

Any idea on the price?

Not yet. I going in lifestyle tomorrow for service, so I'll find out.

Really hope they bring the Mahindra Scorpio too. A buddy had one for a couple months in India, and said it was pretty impressive, and he owns a Pajero here, so who knows, it might be comparable.

I saw for one of the rallys, someone had one of the mahindra pick-ups and really abused that bish. Always wondered how they stood up to the rangers/hiluxes on gravel roads.

when those mahindras pass by sounds like a big truck.. dont imagine them to be very comfortable but may be a real work horse.

on topic of the gti's.. they're definitely not in comparison with a stock wrx/evo on straight line performance but given the right road its the fastest, best handling and most fun thing you can buy, without breaking your bank or your back. remember these things are made for b road handling not drag racing

Agreed....to a point.

the MS3 is rated as having one of the best FWD turbo drivetrainsout there....in terms of near ZERO torque steer!

Buit cinco, the Mini Cooper S/JCW is offended by you statements about the MS3's handling.

I understand where acesinghit is coming from though - FWD is (to me) a fundamentally flawed/economy design.

That said, RWD = the basis of a pure sports car, and nothing but. Some of the world's true driver's cars..... MX5, BRZ/FT-86, S2000, Elise, Caterham Super 7....all follow that basic tradition.

And to me, a pure driver's car doesn't have to rely on fancy gimmickry to get quick reflxes. A lightweight RWD coupe, once set up properly, generally lends itself to a near "telepathic" response to driver input (take the NA Miata as a perfect example).

If SS brings it for $350k would you buy it?

If the budget allowed? No. Why? I hate the smiley grille.

SSL refuses to bring the Mazda 3 5 door, Barbados has them but we don't. The hatchback is so more practical.

^^Correctomundo. They used electronics to limit torque steer at high engine load at lower gears.

Dam. That thing is hideous.
The looks on the car went downhill from 2007 IMO.

Truer words have never been spoken. Downhill since 2001. Uphill since 2005 then back down since 2007. Styling a car must be real hard to do based on what happens every few years to d impreza.

there are 2 tests where the GTI was ranked over the Speed 3...(C&D Nov 09 and MT March 10') plus the GTI has a more upscale interior, better transmission, more mpg's, more features and better handling and it's available in T&T so there you go. Mazda came good but that silly 263 claimed HP is a blatant lie and if you get one to clock 14s in the 1320 consider youself lucky. On a roll WOT 3rd gear then the WRX and GTI would get smoke....

Until SS brings in the PROPER mazdas for this country and at least order them with features to be competitive enough so that the current price would be justified let us until then refrain from talking about that dealership and the lack of a line-up they have in t'dad. Lets be real here guys, this is the new car thread and frankly mazda's pricing locally sucks and the dealership is a next horror story. Please ANSA Automotive or Neal & Massy Automotive, please take the mazda franchise!

well thats in the speed 3 in the renault there isnt much interference by electronics and in the rs ford 1st gear torque is restrained but from 2nd on isnt and yet the torque steer is very minimal... but hey what do i know :?

I called Diamond Motors and they told me that they do NOT sell or support the Mitsubishi Evolution in Trinidad. I called in December 2011. I was seriously interested in one as well, gauging prices between brand new (with warranty and service) and RORO with fix it yuhself support ;-)

I still have the emails where they told me Neeooo...we don't sell Evos. So I'm interested in when exactly they were selling them, and if this is a recent policy change.
