Good win yesterday... We still shakey but we getting there... Welbeck & Macheda had a good chance each but they let it slip... Rooney looking like he ready to win & thats good... Valencia was outstanding as well... SAF should play Jones in the midfield & Get Cahill in January... Whats the latest with Cleavley?

Fletcher to take extended break
Man Utd midfielder suffering from chronic inflammatory bowel condition

Manchester United have confirmed midfielder Darren Fletcher is to take an extended break from football due to health reasons.

The Scotland captain missed two months towards the end of last season due to illness and also sat out United's pre-season tour to North America to work on his fitness.

He returned to action for his national team in September's Euro 2012 qualifiers and has gone on to make 10 appearances for the Red Devils this season.

However, Fletcher has been suffering from a chronic inflammatory bowel condition and the 27-year-old is to take a break from the game.

United statement read: "On behalf of Darren Fletcher, Manchester United wishes to announce that he is taking an extended break from football for health reasons.

"Whilst he was able to maintain remission of symptoms for a considerable period this has proved more difficult recently and Darren's continued desire to play and his loyalty to both his club and country has probably compromised the chances of optimising his own health and fitness.

"He has therefore accepted medical advice to take an extended break from the demands of training and playing in order to afford the best chance possible of achieving full remission once again.

"We request that his privacy is respected and hope that the removal of the additional stress associated with speculation regarding his health will also aid his recovery."

Fletcher, who has made over 300 appearances during his United career, has not featured in the last five matches, although he was on the bench for the away games against Aston Villa and Basel.

His absence will further weaken Sir Alex Ferguson's midfield options, with Anderson out until February and Tom Cleverley not expected to return for another couple of weeks.

Teenage England international Phil Jones has been operating in midfield of late, but Fletcher's situation may force Ferguson to dip into the transfer market in January.

Ferguson has previously suggested January is not the best time to make signings, but has also been linked with Bolton defender Gary Cahill after captain Nemanja Vidic was ruled out for the rest of the season.

Wow he will be a grate asset to us hondaman .../ Playing in the defense/midfield area....Trade him for Carrick, Evans, Fletcher ... Gibbson & Ando never really get the opportunity to deliver so we could keep them for another year & see how it goes... Park is the player you want in the dressing room... He can play in the midfield & on both wings... IMO he's ah big game player ... Song & or Cahill will be good investments cause Vidic out for the season & well Rio gettin slow... SAF made a huge mistake by selling W.Brown & O'shea & he know that.

United could get Champions League lifeline as FIFA threaten Swiss ban

Manchester United could be handed an amazing Champions League lifeline after FIFA threatened to kick Switzerland out of football.

The Old Trafford giants dropped into the Europa League after their shock defeat at FC Basel earlier this month.

But now their Euro conquerors could be dumped if the Swiss FA fails to enforce a transfer ban on Sion by January 13.

The Swiss club were put under a transfer embargo over the signing of Egyptian goalkeeper Essam El Hadary, but proceeded to sign six players in the summer.

Sion then fielded five of the six players during the Europa League play-off tie against Celtic earlier this year and were kicked out of the competition as a result, with UEFA's decision to expel them upheld by the Court of Arbitration for Sport earlier this week.

FIFA have now ordered the Swiss Football Association to sanction Sion or risk Switzerland being excluded from all football - which would mean Basel losing their place in the Champions League last 16 and the national team missing out on an encounter with Argentina in February.

UEFA could bring United back into the competition or hand Basel's next opponents Bayern Munich a bye into the quarter-finals.

A statement from FIFA read: "The executive decided to give a final deadline of 13 January 2012 to the Swiss FA to enforce the registration ban imposed on Sion by the FIFA Dispute Resolution Chamber and confirmed by the Swiss Federal Court and to sanction the attitude of the club repeatedly trying to circumvent this decision in a legally abusive manner.

"As a consequence, all matches in which the relevant players participated shall be declared forfeit or three points shall be deducted respectively. Should this deadline not be respected, the Swiss FA will be automatically suspended from 14 January 2012 onwards."
