Microsoft has released a new iOS app called My Xbox Live that lets users manage their Xbox Live accounts while on mobile. The app doesn’t have gaming of any sort, but lets users edit their bio, check messages, see what friends are online, and change their avatar. Xbox’s Major Nelson outlined the new features:

Read and send messages to friends
Manage your friends list, invite new friends
Read and Edit your full LIVE profile (name, bio, motto)
Change your avatar features/items with the avatar closet
View and compare your achievement progress with friends

Microsoft has made My Xbox Live available for free, on both iPhone and iPad.

^ I see MS is also developing MS Office for iPad

it will make them a pile of money but I think they may end up cannibalising Windows based tablets in the process.

You can use Whatsapp Messenger ... once your contacts have it installed on their devices (whatever models once it supported) ... it will work pretty much the same using the BBM data package that you have I guess.

Directory for Photo Stream (on a Mac)

Go to the "sub" folder & save a search for images & put it under Favorites & name it Photo Stream to have access to it without having to open iPhoto.

Image

An easier way to get to the folder would be to
    open iPhoto
    go to Photo Stream
    select any photo
    go to File
select Reveal In Finder > Original File

Once there go back to the sub folder
Type in anything in the search bar
    Click the +
Ensure that Kind is Image & that All is selected
    Image
    Save
    Add under Favorites

i used them before and got it in about 15 minutes, that includes setup time. Delivery took about 2 minutes. But it costs the same as from buying from raptor because their is a service charge attached.

I use office 2011 for Mac. It's alright. I still think Office for Windows is laid out better.
iWork is great.

I use both & they are alright. I guess I prefer Microsoft Office simply cause I am more used to it, but iWork ain't bad either.

Chronic Dev team has been one of the teams working on an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.

However, few days back they revealed things were not looking too good as Apple may have fixed most of the exploits that they had discovered in iOS 5 beta.

They instead released a tool called C-Dev Reporter, which enables iOS device users to send device crash reports to Chronic Dev team that could be helpful in finding new vulnerability in iOS.

If you're eagerly waiting for an untethered jailbreak then we finally have some good news, iOS Hacker - pod2G, who has been a member of the Chronic Dev team has just tweeted a link to a YouTube video to confirm that it is possible to jailbreak iOS 5:

:-) iOS 5.0 untethered jailbreak demo

It is not clear if the C-Dev Reporter tool helped the Chronic Dev team to develop the jailbreak for iOS 5, but the good news it is an untethered jailbreak. pod2g hasn't provided any ETA on when the tool to jailbreak iOS 5 (untethered) will be released to the public.

Starting with iOS 5, Apple added some new checks to ensure people stick with the latest version of iOS. This made downgrading to iOS 5 impossible using SHSH blobs saved by Cydia or TinyUmbrella. But now, thanks to iH8sn0w’s iFaith, you can downgrade from iOS 5.1 or iOS 5.0.1 to iOS 5 custom firmware as long as you have APTicket + SHSH blobs saved for it.

The following tutorial will show you how you can use iH8sn0w’s iFaith application to downgrade your firmware on iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

Important note:

iFaith only works with devices susceptible to the limera1n exploit, so iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod touch 3G and 4G, the first-gen iPad and second-gen Apple TV. Neither the iPad 2 nor the iPhone 4S are currently supported, since they’ve yet to be exploited.
You must also already have APTicket + SHSH blobs file saved using iFaith for the firmware you are downgrading to, instructions for which can be found here.

With the formalities out of the way, let’s begin.

Step 1: Download iFaith 1.4 for Windows, available here.

Step 2: Select the ‘Build *signed* IPSW w/Blobs’

Step 3: Browse and locate the blobs file that you previously saved for your current device firmware, followed by browsing for the stock firmware version that you want iFaith to create custom firmware for, and subsequently select ‘Build IPSW’. iFaith will now automatically create a custom firmware with the SHSH blobs incorporated for the firmware you are downgrading to.

Step 4: Select Proceed and then Start to enter DFU Mode using iFaith’s built-in DFU Pwner (iREB).

Step 5: Follow on screen instructions on how to place your device into DFU mode.

Step 6: Now close iFaith, open iTunes, select your device in the left-hand menu, and hold down the left Shift on your keyboard before restoring to your previously saved custom iOS 5.0 IPSW.

Congratulations, you’ve successfully downgraded your firmware to the very first in the iOS 5, which is certainly advantageous if you’ve got that elusive untethered jailbreak in the back of your mind.

iOS 5.1 is anticipated to be the next firmware version to drop, and although we expect Apple to sort out the battery issue, the early signs are not altogether promising. Let’s hope it doesn’t turn into a farce resembling antennage ’10.

The best thing to do when a new iOS version is released by Apple is to hold back for a few days/weeks/months or indefinitely, in order to see whether it is actually worthwhile updating. Although the success of Siri has quite nicely papered over the flaws of iOS 5, updates often break things that aren’t broken, so hold back on the eagerness!

Getting about 2-3 days with moderate usage...push, location services are off tho. When I jb on 5.0 my battery life was excellent, but I started having a major issue where the phone was turning off by itself, it only came on when I had it plugged in, as soon as it was unplugged the phone shut off & was unusable (try hard reset, everything). Was forced to update to 5.0.1, so far no problems. I used redsn0w, didn't try ac1dsn0w. But I'll wait till the untethered drops.
