While I agree with all your statements, I have to say that the Evo 9 really is a fantastc machine.
But, you should give more credit to the Evo X. While compared to her older siblngs she is indeed the fat girl of the bunch, she still is quite gracefull and very capable of handling herself.

I (almost) have an Evo 6 TME RS2...(sig.)
but IMHO there is NO perfect Evo... unless you build it yourself or pay to have it done.
Sanctifier wrote:In the Evo 6 RS2 I want to fix the following...
LESS Understeer (nearly 'Neutral') / Bigger brakes / More adhesion / MORE bottom-end Torque below 4,000 rpm
/ LESS Noisy.
Just take the best parts/options from all the Evo models and graft them into the body-shell that you like best...
Now add the aftermarket bits needed to put "the icing on the cake."
BTW that's what I'm doing right now with my resurrected Project Evo 6 TME RS2

Yup the E10 can be upgraded... it just costs a TON of $$$$ to do it.
Most of the time you can get the same, or even BETTER results with an older model Evo... and for a LOT less $$$$ too.

My main issue is that for SIMILAR mods with SIMILAR Torque/Power the E10 will usually lose... because it starts with a weight penalty of at least 600 lbs... sometimes as high as 700+ to 800+ lbs for the more expensive models...
Evo X GSR = 3517 lb. / Evo 6 RS = 2778 lb... +739 lb.
Evo X MR = 3594 lb / Evo 6 RS = 2778 lb... +816 lb.

The Evo X is a wonderful car. Not as harsh as the previous models, but still gets the job done.
Very comfortable to drive everyday yet still agile enough to enjoy on the twisties.
I really have no regrets purchasing the X.
You all know my evo VII. That was my baby since 2002.
9 years later we have parted ways but on good terms.
I only sold her in order to purchase an evo IX.
I have always liked the Evo IX's and I really wanted to own the last and greatest of the 4g63t's.
I also am quite fond of the ct9a chassis.
While I do agree that the earlier model Evos are more hardcore, with a few mods the IX can become quite the monster.
In the past my goals for the evo VII were quite confused as the car ended up being a fully built monster in which we were able to extract 510 whp on low boost, and unfortunatelty the car was sold before we had a chance to do a high boost dyno run so the power levels were not known. However, we were quite sure that 700+ whp was almost assured.
Back to the Evo IX. With the introduction of ASPL's Time Attack, I regained my focus as to what an evo is supposed to be. An evo is not a highway runner. An evo was designed to attack the corners. It was designed to have low end response and torque.
I have driven many cars, some on race tracks where I was able to push them a bit. The 2011 Ferrari Italia, The 2010 F430 Scuderia, The 2011 Superleggera etc, and while those european exotics are amazing, I still was not jaded in my love for the evo.
In terms of bang for your buck, nothing compares to the evo.
So since I have regained my focus, my goal is to turn my Evo IX into the funnest machine I have ever driven.
As Uncle Sanctifier has said, you can build the evo to do everything you want.
I got my Evo IX bone stock.
So far the following has been done to it on its journey to my perfection:

Bone Stock Evo IX
Advan TCIII Wheels
Toyo R888 Tyres
Goodridge Brake Lines
Whiteline Roll Center Kit
Whiteline Bump Steer Kit
Whiteline Rear Sway Bar
Muellerized Ohlins
Shep Racing Transfercase
Shepracing Gearbox ( Still to be installed)
Exeddy Twin Disc Clutch
Greddy Ti-Comp Turbo Back Exhaust
Buschur Ported Exhaust Manifold.
HKS Cams
ARP Headstuds
ETS Intercooler
K&N Drop in Intake
AEM Water/meth
To date, with a very conservative tune we have been able to get 340whp and 360 tq.

Early next year I will be installing an Evo IX Cosworth Head, GSC S2 Cams, One of two built engines I have on the ground, either the 2.4 or the 2.3, a BB FP Red, AMS F1 Intake Manifold, 1000CC Injectors, and the Shep 5 speed gearbox.
Hopefully this combination should result in a very quick and responsive street car.

Uncle Sanctifier, anything I may be missing?

^ Wow... that's some really nice mods.

I like the more "slow and stock" theory with my car (partly cause i can't afford to do anything more  ) But all I wanted was to make sure my car would feel a little better handling wise, So pretty much have Swift Sport Springs and ES swaybar bushings front and rear. Eventually I'll get possibly the perrin LCA bushings then some better tyres and see how that works out.

...street car.... Street car my azz... more like Open Class for 'dex next year! Time for me to start spectating at 'dex again. I'd love to see that combination run against saltydog's Evo 6 RS2. 8-)

Uncle Sanctifier, anything I may be missing?... Missing?... With THAT build?... Yeah right!

Tell me, the Ohlins... Are they Double-adjustables, or Triple-adjustables?

...and what size are the Advan TCIII rims?

^ ^ ^ NICE! IMHO with a choice of stroker engines and the other bits, I can't think of anything extra to add.
Engine(s) / Drivetrain / Suspension / Wheels... all covered. What else is there... "more of the same"?

we like diffrent thing boy santi... Nope, just different circumstances that's all.

For now I use the wife's Subaru 2.0 Turbo GT Wagon for family use.
Good milage... great ride... carrys big stuff... some power for "special occasions".
Just needs more brakes and less understeer... Maybe after the E6 projects. :)

So, for me the perfect Evo is really... Two! (Three?)
1) Weekend Warrior: Evo 6 RS2 prepped for 'dex. (Mainly better brakes & handling.)
2) Daily Driver: ....... 4wd 1800 GSR -to- E6 TME RS2 'Clone' (almost stock + Resonator(s) + DynaMat) PLUS...
3) Grocery Getter: .. rwd Lancer 1800 GSR + 4G93T + Starion IRS + Brembos. (I want GREAT milage, handling & brakes.)
