My iPhone 4 got stolen. (long story...and not a pleasant one.)
I do not have an internet plan on my phone. I only used wi-fi.
Using the find my iphone app, cannot locate the phone. I assume it is off. I have been calling it all the time to see if it recieves any calls but it goes straight to voicemail.
since the phone is offline, it can't be found on google maps. I 'locked' it from http://www.icloud.com, and put a message with an alternative number in case someone gets it.
Problem is:
The lock and the location will only take effect when the phone connects to the internet. My friends say I should 'wipe' the phone, to remove all personal info from it. I disagree. The wipe will nto take effect either, untill it connects to the net. And if it does connect to the net after I choose to wipe it...I lose all monitoring ability on the phone. The 'wipe' feature permanently severs that link.
So I think the lock feature would make more sense.
What are you guys opinion on this?
(note that, the if you enter the wrong 'lock' code ten times, the phone automatically wipes.)
My only hope, right now (presuming the thief replaced the sim...which I doubt)
Is that they turn on the phone, and it conects to the net. (either through their sim card, or automatically if they pass by one of teh various parts of the country I have been to before and connected to wifi in the past.)
you wont have to do anything - the phone automatically gets the data and MMS settings from the carrierkutie wrote:If I put in a GPRS enabled SIM in an UNLOCKED iphone 4 will I have to configure any settings on the phone for me to be able to use data on it?
If so does anyone here know where I can get it done?
I am not currently on an iphone plan.
