Ill answer it here as others may benefit...
I didnt do a vrg swap makaveli, i put in a 6a12 dohc mivec from an Fto. This came mated to its original gearbox.
There was only one major issue i was having after the install:
Similar to you, i was experiencing an extremely high idle. I solved this by calibrating the TPS and also having the car checked by the electrician thoroughly which showed that the step up was stuck in the on position- and if the a/c was turned on it would idle even higher. He checked the a/c circuit and found the issue there.
You seem to have a complicated issue where one may or may not be tied to the other. I dont know anything about mitsubishi auto trannies other than they are a pain in the arse if you dont have the corresponding tcu and harness to allow it to work properly. i suggest some other person speak on the matter. My advice - see an electrician and get the high idle sorted first. who knows, the tranny might start to behave itself after
