I owned one at one point in time and lost it... it was still better than an ipod, had more features (for a player at that time) it just came too late cuz the ipod nuthugging had already grown to absurd levels

You see all the FONTS you type in now? The Laser printer you use? Every HYPERLINK you click on? The digital VIDEO file you look at on youtube, trinituner etc... the recycle bin that you empty to the folders you put you files in...

While some may have existed long before Apple, the INNOVATION came from Steve Jobs and Apple to bring it to the masses and define what it should be and how you should use it.

If there never was an Apple, what would have been the fate of Microsoft and every tech company that followed?

While I think Steve Jobs was a great man, I think you're giving him just a bit too much credit here based on articles you probably read around the web or something.
I admire Steve Jobs as a business man more than I do as an innovator. They're both very different rolls in Apply. Steve was an icon in the marketing and reviving of Apple itself

There are still some die hard apple users out there who love the technology more than life itself. My prediction is that sales will rise since Mr. Jobs was supposed to be at the launch of the iPhone 5. Out of appreciation many people will grab them off the shelves as such. Well, least I think so...
