people starting to take the curfer for granted .

increased criminal activity during thee extended hours.

it would be nice to have peace and quiet again from as early as 9pm

It was really surreal when the curfew was from 9.

We need leaders with ballz, too much decisions being made based on emotion, the time should have never been changed from 9pm, the 4am can stay though since some people have to leave home to get transport early

9-5 is impractical,
with school being open.

Shorter or longer curfew hours making no sense when there's barely any or no police patrols or activity in hotspots.

I prefer 10-5 nationwide, not just hotspots.

Should have remained from 9-4 in the first place.

Extend it to 1 year.

Can't, not only would it seriously screw up the already screwed economy, disenchantment among law abiding citizens will increase. It is also unconstitutional.

Curfew hours under review

By Sue-Ann Wayow

Story Created: Sep 27, 2011 at 11:46 PM ECT

Story Updated: Sep 27, 2011 at 11:46 PM ECT

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar will today raise the issue of extending the curfew hours to its original eight hour, at the meeting of the National Security Council.

There have been calls by some for the curfew hours to be changed from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m., to the original 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., because of reports that violent crime is again on the increase.

Speaking during a visit to the San Fernando General Hospital Tuesday night, Persad-Bissessar said "I have heard those concerns (and) I will raise it with the law enforcement officers. They were the ones who told us where to put the hotspots in the first place, and the timing".

Persad-Bissessar said she could not make a judgment call on the curfew "until we speak with them (members of the National Security Council)".

"And in fact on Wednesday I have a National Security Council meeting and I will hear their views and we will see what to do."

My 15min drive home from work is now becoming an hour because of the traffic. 9pm-4am would be horror.

such a horrible way to live tho.. we have no rights and a curfew.. this cannot be a long term solution for crime..but im all for lessening crime so whatever helps at the moment :s i think the real problem is citizens have no real means of defending themselves against criminals.. pepper spray illegal.. knives cant bigger than 6 in.. tazer guns illegal.. gun lisense is hard to get.. so criminals have all the weapons and we are left with vitually no self defense, so criminals taking advantage of us..and if we kill a criminal with anything like that we getting charge for murder..sooo what should citizens do to defend themselves..i guess its sit back and take it!
and we cant wait for the police cause by that time the criminals dun do all kinda thing to us and get away...

The gov’t is wicked if they revert to 9 pm curfew. Think of all the businesses that will be affected, like gyms, restaurants, cinemas, bars etc. These places employ a lot of ppl who either gonna get laid off or have their wages cut sharply because of shorter working hours. This will mean more unemployment, more contraction in economic activity, more suffering! Also what’s gonna happen to evening university students?

Let’s hope they make the right decision today at the National Security Council meeting.

This is so typical of this government, throw out an idea, wait for public reaction, if negative deny they ever say it, if positive, say it was all in the plan.

For all the tuners who think more curfew would better for the country are selfish and myopic. Unless long term plans are put in place this would be nothing more than an extend Operation Anaconda or Baghdad we experience a couple years ago.

Ok seriously you need to stop listening to 96.1 and 96.7, i dunno where people getting this "we have no rights" dotishness from.

ALL your constitutional rights are intact. A State of Emergency implies just that, the State is under an emergency. It doesn't target any one individual. We simply have a time where we SHOULD be indoors. It is your choice and right to disobey the curfew restrictions if you so please, but be prepared to face the consequences which are clearly defined for ALL.

Yes our laws wrt to citizens arming themselves are pretty archaic, but that's the law we have to live by. If you don't like it, do like many people have done and migrate and/or again it's your choice to disobey the law and arm yourself with a gun if you so desire.
