What PSI should my tyres be?

It's all about 4AGE, NZE, 3SGTE, 1JZ, 2JZ etc.

What PSI should my tyres be?

Postby shiv2111 » August 26th, 2011, 8:18 pm

Hey guys wanted to know your thoughts on this subject.

So you would normal look at the manual on the sides on the doors to know what PSI your tyres should be. However what happens when you change from stock?

Eg 205/40/17-Normally most use 30 PSI for these tyres. However seeing that they are low profile shouldn't that be taken in consideration? I have had/ seen a few under inflated tyres crack. So in my logic I am thinking the PSI should be a bit higher not so? However I stand to be corrected as I am no expert.

What say you guys?

 tyre shops always tell u 30psi...dunno why

I've ran 205/50/15, 195/50/15, 205/45/16 and 195/55/15 at different times and at every tyre shop I've been to in my life, the attendant says "about 30" when I ask. Typically I'd run about 34psi so the ride isn't too harsh, but the lowest profile I've ever used was 45/16, so your 40/17 might be different.
45psi is a tad high IMO.
On the sidewall has the maximum pressure the tyre can handle, keep it below that and you'll be fine.

i use 35psi on 205/50/15 which is a tad bit hard but reasonable since i do only h/way runs...never had any cracks.....

I typically use:
30psi in the back & 31psi in front. By the time the tyre heats up the operating temp. is around 31 R & 32 F. It is recommended to go higher in front because of engine weight. I use 195/55R15.

My NZ121 Toyota Fielder Tire Pressure indicator light came on during a return drive from Las Cuevas. The indicator did not come on during the first leg of the trip. It remained on for considerable period of the trip then went off. Then after about 2km, it came back on. Upon entering the EMR at Champ Flurs it came off and stayed off.

Subsequent to that trip, the indicator came on and stayed on for about 1km then went off. This trip was a typical EMR "home-office" trip.

I visually inspected all four tires and they are not deflated.

Will the tire pressure indicator light come on if tires are over-inflated? And, what is the recommended psi for tires 205/14/60 in an all stock setup.

best regards

well i've been running 30psi on all my cars for about 7yrs now and its seems to work perfect for daily street use and i've had different wheel & tyre sizing. i guess 30psi is pretty much a standard yes lol.
