I think it is the Air Guard your friend saw, there was an aircraft like the one in the picture flying low, circling the palmiste area around 6pm today.

I could be wrong too, I wish it was me who spot it as I love to plane spot. But I know in Jamaica it is a regular problem there of drugs entering through the sky. Their defence force don't have any multi-engine a/c to chase anyone, but they regularly bomb crude runways in rural areas.

My cousin does boat engine repairs.....he's very good at it..

Anyway he was called by the ttdf to come fix an engine on one of their patrol vessels.
As he started to work on the engine for this boat, a guy(army) approached him with a gun and told him that he better not fix the engine as this boat not going anywhere tonight.

The problem in Trinidad exists in places that are the toughest to weed out. The only reason they didn't want the boat going out that night is because something was coming in.

True to some extent, but don't be fooled: some of those same "sufferers" on the block ARE the big fish. I know of one "community leader" (and URP kingpin), who when he was gunned down at age 27 left about $20 MILLION in cash along with 7 houses and numerous cars. Also, there are guys pulling down 6 figures a month from DVD "vending". Guess what they're doing with all that money? De "small man" my a@#!!!!!

THIS!!
thank YOU!!

That might be true as well but it does not change thefact that for them to get this rich, there is a bigger fish financing them!!

It has always been so.

Do you remember a certain "respectable" businessman with a business in Tunapuna who was beheaded and was closely related to a former PNM Minister of Health?

the plane flew very low at times and then had quick and steep descent .... circling was at a steep angle also...pilots must be well trained

ya'll just cant imagine that these gangs have that kinda money, the gangs run lots (i mean ALLOT) of those DVD vendors and other vendors/stores/shops to bring in cash (i know dvd vendors who make as much as 2,000+ a day e.g.), combine that with drug sales locally and you start to see how much money they are making... a few million to these gangs is really nothing... 21million in street value is prob only about 5 million down with another 5 million due after selling/cutting/exporting.. you'll be surprised how much drugs sell on consignment/entrapment

World economic expert predicts increase in criminal activity
By Curtis Rampersad Publications Editor

Story Created: Aug 26, 2011 at 12:50 AM ECT

The State of Emergency imposed on Trinidad and Tobago poses risks of an increase in criminal activity in the short term and is likely to harm investor perceptions of the nation, London-based risk analysis company Business Monitor International (BMI) has said.

BMI released an economic analysis on the country's State of Emergency to financial institutions titled "State of Emergency: Outcome Uncertain" on Wednesday.

BMI has clients in more than 140 countries, including banks, financial companies and Fortune 500 firms.

The risk researchers' preliminary concerns in the analysis sent to the Express were that the use of the military to search, seize and arrest, as well as the imposition of a dusk-dawn curfew "poses the risk of significant increase in violence and criminal activity in the short term".

Government has implemented a 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew in four municipalities and two cities during the State of Emergency.

If the unrest and violence were to spread to areas beyond the hot spots, "We believe there is a risk of a sustained period of violence, similar to that seen in Mexico following president Felipe Calderon's crackdown on cartel activity back in 2006", BMI stated.

The State of Emergency could also hurt how investors look at Trinidad and Tobago.

"In our view the decision to impose a State of Emergency is likely to harm investor perceptions of the nation. The economy's non-energy sector continues to suffer, following 2008's global financial crisis, and we believe that this development could further dissuade foreign investors in the medium-to long term if it extends for longer than originally planned," the BMI report said.

The additional costs to the Government of coordinating the crackdown on gangs could drag on the State's fiscal accounts in the short term and increase the need for even deeper fiscal consolidation in the future, BMI said, adding that this would bode "ill for the economy's recovery as there would be little space for fiscal stimulus".

BMI concluded that it was concerned that a failure to achieve the necessary degree of gang activity containment in the short term could have longer term political and economic costs.

So Stephon: The big shot, respectable, business men and women who living by you and responsible for financing the cocaine and guns that the boys and girls in the "ghettoes" using, and also for financing the PP and PNM, must continue living like normal.

IMO, this curfew should deal with BOTH the financiers and the pushers.

I'm not going to comment on something that is just he say she say BS.

government is not obligated to....it can still remain 'sensitive' and need to know information only...

expect the opposition to roast the government for any and everything...

AFAIK there is no obligation to have a sitting of parliament until after the SOE is finished

As we have passed the 4th day of the SOE, things have changed. There is a commentary in thursday's guardian section A page 33. I believe the president is suppose to give the reason for the SOE otherwise, in our present state, it is unconstitutional. Over the weekend I would research more on the guardian commentary and post as necessary. In the meantime, imma tend to my plants. Cheers.
