EID UL FITR will be celebrated on September 1 this year, Minister of Arts and Multiculturalism Winston Peters has said.

A public holiday will be granted on that day for the observance of the holy day, Peters said yesterday.

Peters made the statement during the weekly post Cabinet news conference held at the Office of the Prime Minister in St Clair, Port of Spain yesterday.

Eid ul Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting.

The holiday celebrates the conclusion of the month-long dawn-to-sunset fasting for Ramadan.
