3rd gen coolant overflow

Postby kali » July 30th, 2011, 6:19 am

cooling system in car is being pressurized and pushing out coolant through the reservior tank. tried burping system but air or gas keeps coming in especially when i turn the engine off. the car did run low on coolant for a short bit but didnt overheat, the buzzer just came on. what can i check? no coolant burning through exhaust. hearing a hissing slight crackling sound by the turbos like water dripping on a hot pipe but no evidence of any external leak there. Are the o rings warped? how can i confirm this.
Currently looking for hose or connection or any external leaks. wanna check the thermostat and try new caps.
If it turns out to be the seals what kinda money will it cost to repair. Any advice on this problem would be appreciated.

sorry to hear what going on pal, u need to try everyting possible before we establish is the coolant seals gawn bad.The coolant is retained in the overflow because you have a small leak somewhere in the cooling system. This small leak is keeping the coolant from completely returning to the radiator from the overflow. It can be caused by a bad cap. It might be caused by a pinhole leak in the tube from the rad neck to the overflow. It might be happening at an imperfectly sealed gasket.

So i would start with looking for leaks, the proper way is to do a system pressure test that would identify any leaks. If u did source a leak and the problem persist, try changing the pressure cap, if both doesnt work u could do a ""champagne test"", full the system with coolant and remove the filler neck pressure cap and start the car when its cold, u are looking for a steady stream of bubbles, sumting like a fizz, this is nut conclusive but it shows that exhaust gases abd getting into the system. white smoke coming from the exhaust is a good sign but that happens when the seals are truly gawn......dont jump to conclusions YET.

a rebuild wud cost u like 15k cause u hv to do a overhaul and its advisable u change all other seals, parts like 10k, labour 5k......

contact me if u need more info...707-0122...good luck fellow rotor head, welcome to the club! lol
