I want to change DNS but..

Postby altec » July 12th, 2011, 8:47 pm

I want to change blink DNS to google but i cannot get into the modem. I've tried using "admin/admin" but it is not being accepted. Are there any other passwords blink uses? I do not want to reset the modem because i will have to reconfigure.

Don't you change the DNS from the Local Area Network icon in the network settings in Control Panel?

buy ah linksys router and done......just use blink crappy router as the internet box u need,,,
so put the cable from the phoneline into the blink router then from that router run a cable to the WAN port on the router then hook up ur pc stuff normel normel....then just enter 192.168.1.1 ( default ip to router admin) and change the dns from there..
so any device sending out data will carry the dns address of the router (which acts as a man in the middle or a firewall basically)

Wow I had the exact same problem. Shux!! Can't remember the login details I used, but I know I tried Admin/admin for hours. :x :x
In your case it can be CAPS on also.

192.168.2.1 or 192.168.1.2

blink uses two modems, an asus/zhone and some other brand...

I had that problem also ^^. Blink also uses "192.168.0.1"
But from what the OP said, he has already found the right I.P. cuz he's already on the Login screen. Wrong username/password.

would router reset change and altered passwords back to default? or is it some new method blink has placed to prevent tampering with delicate info on the device

Yup, most likely a reset will always change an ALTERED password back to default.

I find that I have to pull the power from this blink router and power it back on or chook the re-set button nearly every time I have to go on-line, because of no connectivity......and this in turn slows down the entire machine.....when connection is active machine runs smoothly.....weird...do I need them to change this router?

it is incorrect to think that a rest will clear the password.

there are different levels of resets.

1-the first just cycles the modem/router. you do this by pulling the plug or pressing the reset switch for approx one second. this is just a simple reboot to fix minor firmware problems.

2-the second type of reset requires you to hold the reset switch down for a longer period (varies depending on device). this completely resets any config setting including the password. when you do this, you lose all the tstt settings. you would then need to logon to the modem/router and re-enter the settings correctly.

the proper settings for tstt are :
(for the PARADYNE MODEM)
1. Open your web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, etc)
2. In the address bar type 192.168.1.1 and press Enter
3. When prompted for username and password, enter admin in both fields and click Ok
4. Click on Advanced Setup, then click Wan
5. Click on Edit (located on the right-hand side of the screen)
6. Click Next
7. Change the Encapsulation Mode to VC-MUX (is already selected continue to next step)
8. Click Next
9. Ensure that the Keep alive option is enabled
10. Click Next
11. Click Next again
12. Click Save
13. Click Finish
14. It takes about 1 to 2 minutes to complete the reboot, but once the Paradyne has rebooted, you should be connected to the internet.

If any difficulties are encountered, please contact 62-BLINK.

Somewhere in there they missed out the account info...
-the account names is "DSL_661-2345" - replacing the number with your land line number.
-the default password is "12345."

good luck,
tariq

You do not need to enter the google DNS i.p. in the blink router, just put it in the LAN TCP settings on uh pc and the pc will use those settings instead, the only reason blink puts those DNS settings on the router is because most pc's are set to obtain an i.p. automatically so the pc would get it;'s settings from the router instead, the router is in NO WAY looking up a website for u, it's just telling your PC where it can GO to look up a site name and convert to an I.P. address, if you use GOOGLE i.p's in your pc the PC will trust that you know what yur doing and use your i.p's instead and go STRAIGHT to googles servers for DNS info, uh eh hadda mess wit no router or nun, leave blink router alone, a re-set will default the router back to when it came from d factory.

the solution is.... switch to flow. i just got upgraded from 30mb/s to 50mb with 5mb upload rate by flow... for free. no extra charges.last year they upgraded me from 25mbit to 30mbit for free. year before that similar. so im actually paying what started off as a 20mbit bill that has more than doubledin speed since i signed up at the same price.

blink is toots.
