Help !! Windows Explorer crash on Vista

Ok, IT people.

My father's computer, got two accounts his and mine. His account is the administrator account and in that account, when you log on an error comes up "windows explorer has stopped working" and then it closes and the message pops up again.

i cant access anything.

but on the second account, it works fine.

is your account also an administrator? also when the error comes up can you CTRL+ALT+DELETE to Bring up the Task Manager? Have you tried booting in Safe Mode? Were any new software installed?

My account is not administrator, and i'm not aware if any new software has been installed, its been awhile since i am using this pc.

Upgrade to windows 7.....Vista is crap. I have one myself.

You lucky guy but to me, Vista is a huge disappointment because of the hype that was behind it.

Look how quickly Windows 7 came to replace.

Even the IT people at work replace all os with windows 7

look nah, if certain things missing form task manager is because a virus disable it. either way, upgrade to 7... there is no reason to be using vista... just google "windows 7 iso direct download"

Disable everything under the sun at startup in msconfig.

Windows key + R
Type msconfig then hit enter
Startup tab
Disable all (if you have an antivirus, leave it, if there's a program for the pointing device, leave it)
Restart then do the task manager dance again.
If explorer crashes when you start it over, go in msconfig, do the same if there are any changes and restart again.
This time, when you go in task mgr, go through the list and kill anything that looking fishy. If you don't know a process, google it.

Rinse and repeat until you find your problem. Something conflicting with explorer that's native to that username.
I'd quicker upgrade to 7 though.

try this..
go into your father's account
after it crashes hit ctrl alt del
instead of explorer.exe, run mmc.exe instead
click file
click add-on
select 'users' from list and select 'local computer'
hit ok to come back to original window
create new account with administrator priviledges
log out and log into new account
transfer all data from father's old account into new account

IF THAT DONT WORK
go online and look for 'HIRENS BOOT CD'
burn onto cd
reboot from cd
browse thru menus for program to to unlock administrator (cant remember name right now but it pretty straight forward from the names)
create new admin
and restart
log into new admin
transfer data to new account
and delete old one...
