FIFA suspends Jack Warner

Postby Duane 3NE 2NR » May 29th, 2011, 1:14 pm

Published on CNN 10 minutes ago:

ZURICH (AP) -- FIFA suspended Mohamed bin Hammam and Jack Warner on Sunday amid allegations the two executive committee members bribed voters in the presidential election campaign. The ethics committee also cleared FIFA president Sepp Blatter of ignoring the alleged bribes.
The decisions pave the way for Blatter to be re-elected unopposed to a fourth term Wednesday.
Soccer's governing body said bin Hammam, a Qatari who leads Asia's soccer confederation, and Warner, a FIFA vice president from Trinidad, will now face a full FIFA inquiry. If found guilty, they could be expelled from FIFA and banned from all soccer activity.
Bin Hammam announced his withdrawal as a candidate earlier Sunday.
The ethics commission said there was sufficient evidence to further investigate allegations that bin Hammam and Warner offered $40,000 bribes to delegates at a Caribbean soccer association meeting May 10-11 in Trinidad.
The payments were allegedly made to secure votes for bin Hammam in his campaign to unseat Blatter as the head of FIFA. The evidence was submitted to the governing body by American executive committee member Chuck Blazer.
"We are satisfied that there is a case to be answered," Petrus Damaseb, deputy chairman of the ethics committee, said at a news conference.
Bin Hammam, who denied any wrongdoing, had asked the ethics panel to investigate Blatter on grounds that he knew of alleged bribe attempts and did nothing about it. But the FIFA panel said there was no evidence to take action.

I find this whole thing truly amusing since i am convinced that FIFA itself (the cartel) as always conducted itself in like fashion.
Mr Warner, for all his years in FIFA must accept the saying "when you play with the dogs yuh will get bitten by the fleas".
The US and UK interests who have been very upset about the lost of their bids found "their weapon of mass destruction" and are seeking revenge.
What would really make things interested is if a whistle-blower surfaces who can give the behind the scenes of the plot.
I cannot believe Mr Chuck Blazer suddenly "ups" a found a new or higher moral standard.

I wish Jack well in taking this stance against England and the USA.
Jack met with Obama and the USA didn't win their bid so USA turns against Jack.
Duke William et al met with Jack and England didn't win their bid so they against Jack too.
Blatter have a challenger and he side with England,USA to block Jack and keep FIFA presidency.
World politics is a helluva nasty thing yes.
Isn't it ironic that Obama and Cameron met just recently before these allegations were made... smh.
I used to think Blatter was clean till this. That being said the repercussions for T&T from England and USA not going to be nice if Jack takes them on.
I wonder where all the Obama loving trinis now that they see the reality of what Obama stands for?

FIFA promise bribe investigation and suspend Warner and Bin Hammam

By Sportsmail Reporter

Last updated at 6:41 PM on 29th May 2011

FIFA will open a full investigation into allegations Mohamed Bin Hammam and Jack Warner offered financial incentives to members of the Caribbean Football Union and have provisionally suspended them from all football activity, world football's governing body have confirmed.

FIFA have announced 'no investigation is warranted' against president Sepp Blatter and that the presidential election will go ahead as planned on Wednesday.

Bin Hammam and Warner are accused of handing over bundles of cash, each of 40,000 US dollars, to Caribbean football officials and Petrus Damaseb, the Namibian judge presiding over the ethics committee, said there was enough evidence against them to justify them being suspended pending the full inquiry.

He told a news conference in Zurich: 'Mr Bin Hammam is hereby provisionally banned from taking part in any football-related activity until FIFA's ethics committee take a decision on this matter, and the same decision for Mr Jack Warner.'

Two officials from the Caribbean Football Union (CFU), Debbie Minguell and Jason Sylvester, who were alleged to have handed over the money have also been suspended pending a full inquiry.

FIFA have announced the Football Association have cleared FIFA members Ricardo Teixeira and Worawi Makudi of allegations of bribery made by Lord Triesman relating to England's failed 2018 World Cup bid.

Blatter was accused by Bin Hammam of knowing about the payments and not reporting them but he told the ethics committee he had warned Jack Warner that any such payments were not appropriate.

Damaseb said: "The committee took the view that the obligation to report did not arise because at that stage no wrongdoing had occurred.'

Warner denied that any such conversation with Blatter had taken place.

Valcke said the presidential election would take place on June 1 as planned with Blatter as the only candidate, but that the FIFA Congress of 208 nations could decide to change this if there was a 75 per cent majority.

Meanwhile, Valcke said a report commissioned by the FA into ex-chairman Lord Triesman's allegations of impropriety by four FIFA members, including Warner, had found no meaningful evidence to back up the claims.

Triesman said the four had asked for cash or favours to support England's 2018 bid but that evidence from other England officials had not supported these claims.

'They are completely clean,' said Valcke.

Fifa quartet accused by Lord Triesman cleared

David Bond reports from Zurich
Four Fifa executive committee members accused by former Football Association chairman Lord Triesman of seeking favours for votes have been cleared.

Triesman, who ran the FA and its 2018 World Cup bid until last May, claimed that Jack Warner, Nicolas Leoz, Ricardo Teixeira and Worawi Makudi had engaged in "improper and unethical" conduct.

But an independent report commissioned by the FA exonerated the quartet.

"All four are completely clean," said Fifa general secretary Jerome Valcke.

"I have just got the FA report... and I hope Fifa will agree to make it public because all the people here...are completely clean of all the allegations made by David Triesman a few weeks ago.

"I'm glad the person appointed by the FA took time to hear not only Triesman but also David Dein, Simon Johnson, Andy Anson and other people who were part of the bid."

Triesman, a member of the House of Lords, accused the quartet during a parliamentary inquiry into the race to host the 2018 World Cup, won by Russia last December, during which England secured only one vote other than the one from their own delegate.

Dave Richards has not said he heard Jack Warner ask for money in his presence, or ask for funds to be channelled through him
Jerome Valcke

Among the claims, Warner, a Fifa vice-president and Concacaf president from Trinidad and Tobago, was said to have asked for money - suggested to be about $4.1 m (£2.5m) - to build an education centre in Trinidad and for about $820,000 (£500,000) to buy Haiti's World Cup TV rights.

That prompted the FA to carry out its own probe into the claims, and the findings were submitted to world football's governing body during the week.

However Valke said Dave Richards, the chairman of the Premier League, disputed Triesman's account, adding: "Dave Richards has not said he heard Jack Warner ask for money in his presence, or ask for funds to be channelled through him."

Triesman also said that Leoz, of Paraguay, asked for an honorary knighthood - a request the FA report stated was only made by people in Leoz's entourage to people working for Triesman.

And Valcke said there was also no evidence to support claims Makudi of Thailand had allegedly wanted to receive money from English TV to broadcast a planned friendly match against the country.

Triesman had also claimed that Teixeira, a Brazilian, asked him to "come and tell me what you have got for me", something Teixeira - along with the other three accused - denied.

In a separate case, Warner was suspended by Fifa on Sunday in connection with allegations of bribery in Mohamed bin Hammam's bid to unseat Sepp Blatter in Wednesday's presidential elections on Wednesday.

Bin Hammam, who had already pulled out of the presidential race, was also suspended.
