Just today a co-work was asking me about something similar becsue his wife apparently feel is genuine.

From the time i hear him say "nokia" and "lottery" I tell hm "scam" one time.

But like de man needed tangible PROOF to go show his wife that is fake...(and he wife bess)

When I was working Digicel, loads of people came in real quiet quiet and shy shy asking if the fraud text claiming they win something like $24,000,000 from Nokia was real. Man talk bout laugh at these people, you would think if you did win all that money, Nokia woulda have the decency to call you instead of text, lolol.

Half of them didnt even own Nokia phones...lolol (yes...I asked )

people still fall for this in Trinidad, many older people fall for it because they don't know about it, all of us online all the time so we know the scene but now these scammers calling local phone numbers, and they have your real name

say a 50-60 year old man get a call on his home phone and he get referred to by his real first and last name and the caller tell him he get $500,000 but he hadda make a bank account to receive the money..and well he hadda send a lil $1000 lawyers fees......u doh think over 50% of them would take the bait? especially as he never hear about scams like these?

and after the first $1000, theres always new issues cropping up where u hadda send a next $500 or a next $1000


i saw a new twist recently where the scammers are emailing lawyers telling the lawyers that they need legal representation in Trinidad for a divorce case and the spouse agree to settle out of court so the wife won't fight for custody of the children and they wanna put xxx amount in a bank account as part of an agreement that there will be no fight for children/property.
They ask for lawyers full name, office address, phone numbers, they send a batch of fake legal documents that more or less ask the lawyer to create the account to receive the money locally, and only then most people realize it's a scam.
