IT Help - Mouse Freezing/Not Responding (Windows & Ubuntu)

Postby Parvin » February 20th, 2011, 9:43 am

Need some help please.

I had Windows7 installed and decided to try Ubuntu 10.10. Wiped the drive clean and installed the Ubuntu and it worked fine for a few days until 1 day while using it, the cursor began moving across the screen on its own and applications began opening by themselves. Then afterwards the mouse would freeze.

Formatted the drive and re-installed Windows7 and the mouse still does not work. -t would move for about 2 seconds and then stop.

I was told to try updating the BIOS but that still did not work. Changed the battery on the MB and cleared the CMOS but nothing works.

Any advice?

If it is a PS2 mouse, ditch it for a USB mouse.
If you are using a USB mouse, try a different port.
If different mice on different ports giving the same issue, then get a jharay for the jumbie.

go in the device manager and either roll back the mouse driver or update it.. head to the manufacturer (of the mouse) website and pull the latest driver package...

on another note... i will assume that it is not a trackball mouse and tell you try another pad.. but you may have to scrap the mouse and clean the contact pad for the buttons.. but seriously.. get the drivers first..

well all left is to update the drivers (what make and model?)..i forgot.. did you change the port? (sumtimes usb mices go buggy in one port and will work fine in another - the two usb ports highest on the back of your case are "dedicated" to rat and keyboard)

You can try a serial mouse if your motherboard has a DB9 port.

Desktop pc.

Keyboard works fine.

Tried re-installing the Ubuntu and the original mouse worked fine for about a minute and then the same thing happened again ( moving on its own and then getting stuck )
