[HOW TO] Custom Ringtones and Notifications..

Just a heads up for anyone else new to WP7. You can add custom ringtones to your HD2 WP7 using Chevron Custom Ringtone Manager...see below -

http://www.chevronwp7.com/post/20542911 ... ne-manager

Your phone has to be Chevron unlocked for this to work. Also, your mp3s need to be converted to WMA 48KHz format. This can be done easily with Microsoft Expression Encoder 4..see below -

http://www.microsoft.com/expression/pro ... rview.aspx

Here is a screenshot of the settings required..

Image

Once converted, you'll find the WMA file in C:\Users\xxx\Documents\Expression\Expression Encoder\Output. Now run the Chevron Ringtone manager, browse to your WMA file, and click Build Ringtone XAP.

Then install the XAP the same way as you do with any other. I recommend Tom XAP Installer...see below -

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=860964

For alarms and alerts, there's an two extra steps involved. You must rename your WMA file to Alert-01.WMA (or which ever one you want to replace). Note your original one will be overwritten.
Once you have copied it to your phone, you need to install TouchExplorer...see below

http://forum.touchxperience.com/downloa ... c3bee51b36

use this to move your Alert-01.WMA file from My Documents/My Ringtones into /Windows.
__________________________________________________________________________

An alternative is to sync your music with Zune, and then use TouchExplorer to copy one of your MP3s from My Documents/Zune/Content/xxx folder and put it into your My Ringtones folder. This works too

I've tested both methods and they both work great.

If you have any problems with it, just ask and I'll try to help.

Cool stuff but Fyi there is a wmp7 thread that needs reviving. Can someone merge this into that thread instead of having multiple threads?

Tips&Tricks

1. Using the Windows Phone 7 voice controls
Press and hold the Windows key at the bottom of your screen and you can start talking to your phone. Try saying "Open Calendar", to see what we mean.

2. Adding apps to the Start screen
When you are in the long applications list on your phone pressing on an icon and holding brings up a contextual menu that gives you a series of options, one of which is "pin to start". Press on this option and the app will be shown on the Start screen.

3. Add people to the start page
No it's not just about adding apps to the start page, but people too. Find them in your contacts book, click on the "pin" icon, and they'll be added to your Start page so you can speed dial them whenever you need.

4. Moving your tiles around
Adding a new app or tile to the Start screen will place it right at the bottom. If you want it to be elsewhere, press and hold on the tile in question and then you are free to move it up and down and rearrange your tiles to best suit your needs.

5. Removing apps from the Start screen
You like the app, but you don't really want it on your Start screen anymore. No worries. Hold your finger on the tile in question for a couple of seconds and when it highlights press the no pin icon in the top right-hand corner.

6. Uninstalling apps
You've tried it and you don't like it. No problem. Head over to the menu list and press down on the app in question until you get the contextual menu. Select uninstall and you're done.

7. Rating and reviewing apps
You really love the new app you've downloaded, so much so that you want to rate and review it so anyone else interested knows whether it's any good or not. With Windows Phone 7 you don't have to wait until you delete it to rate it, you can rate and review it at any time. Press and hold down on the app in question until that contextual menu appears and then choose "Rate and review". It will bring up another page allowing you to have your say and give it a rating out of five. Easy peasy.

8. How to change the theme
If you've got your Windows Phone 7 phone from Vodafone the theme is going to be all red, O2 is dishing out blue themes and Orange, orange ones. An all red themed phone might be a bit much (we hear you), but fret not as you can change the colour of the tiles and other features in the Setting area. Zip on over to the menu list, select Settings, and then Theme. Here you can choose the colour of the background and the accent colour. Background options are "Black" or "White" while you'll get nine accent colours to pick from. Lime, anyone?

9. Swipe to the left
Windows Phone 7 is built around the idea of panoramic tiles that you swipe to reveal more content off screen. It's always worth seeing if you can swipe to the left as there might be more stuff waiting to be revealed.

10. What are the dots?
Whenever you see three dots at the bottom of the screen, that's a menu for more options. In photo playback for example, it will give you the options to delete the image or perform a quick upload.

11. MULTITASKING (OR LET ME CALL IT "BACK IN TIME")
When you press the back button when on home screen it goes to all you recent apps you opened or edited before....Keep pressing the back button will go further more back! I Think this is because when i wanted to exit an app i pressed the start button(to go to Home screen instantly) and not the back button; so it stays in memory/or recording your steps you did before!

12. CHANGING PICTURES APP BACKGROUND:
When you go to Pictures you can change the Background to your likes using your images stored into phone... Just Hold your finger on the screen and a window will pop up... it says Change Background and "Change it for me" (automatic Randomly change)..Press change my background and pick your favorite photo/image.... Now it should change in the application and when you go to Home Screen you can also see this image on the Pictures tab....Love it!!!!!!!!!!

13. Battery and signal.
When on Home screen or whenever screen you are just slide down your finger starting from the Top of the screen...It should slide down the battery, signal, wifi icons e,t,c!

14. TALKING TO YOUR PHONE
The Windows Phone 7 is the latest addition in smartphone platforms, so you can talk to it – yeah, literally. You can activate the device’s voice control mechanism by pressing and holding the Windows key at the bottom of your screen. Try saying ‘Open Calendar’ for example, it’ll hear you.

A Tiled UI Organization

Tiles are the main organizational design feature for Windows Phone 7. Everything from the Home Screen to Contacts to section headers are formatted and organized around the square and the rectangle. From the Home Screen, for example, if you select the People tile, you get a list of contacts with tiled photos, tiled alphabetical headers for sorting contact names, and even a crossword puzzle style quick-select screen for getting to your desired contact information fast. This clean, clear look is at the heart of the Windows Mobile redesign.

[APP] [TUT]Torrent Buddy

"Torrent Buddy is a client application which run on windows phone and communicate with your uTorrent client/webserver running on your PC. This is pretty handy to look at the status of your torrents and control them as needed. What’s unique about Torrent Buddy compared to other apps on market place is that it lets you add new torrents from any website and RSS feeds. Not only that, it also allows you to add torrent from sites which require authentication by adding your own cookie information."
The Trial version will support everything except adding new torrents
you can get it from the market place.
I am nothing to do with this app It just taken me ages to get it set up so thought I would help in case anyone else needed it

OK so I thought I would write up a little tutorial on how to set this app up, as the only info i could find was on this site(the creates of the app)

OK so I found the easiest way of doing this guys was like this (my pc is connected via wifi)

1.give yourself a static ip=
start>control panel>network connections>right click you’re wireless connection>properties>

2.on the General Tab there is a box you can scroll down to, got to Internet protocol(TCP/IP)click on it and click properties

3.use the following IP Address example
IP. = 192.168.1.3
subnet = 255.255.255.0
Deafult gateway = (mine was) 192.168.1.1
DNS server (mine was) 192.168.1.1
click ok to save then ok

4. log in to you’re router(mine is Netgear so 192.168.1.1)
5.go to port forwarding
6.create new port forward
Service Name = Torrent Buddy
Service Type = TCP/UDP
Starting Port = chose a port
Ending Port = chose a port
Server IP Address (you’re static address)
save and log out you’re router

7.uTorrent setup – In uTorrent, go to options->Preferences->Web UI, Select “Enable Web UI” check mark. Enter a username and password and keep not of the connectivity port. This is what you will need to connect from torrent buddy (Select the check box and enter the port you chose for port forwarding).

Go to http://portforward.com/ and it will show you you’re IP.

fire up torrent buddy and open connections menu
9.Friendly name = whatever you want
Server name = http://yourIP:the port you chose
username = the same you chose for the settings in Utorrent
Password = as above
save
10.click the connection you created and press the tick box if you did everything ok then it should go back to the main screen and connect and then you can watch you’re torrents.

Hope this helps

[Game] NES Emulator

http://www.ishum.com/Emu110.xap

Image

Edit 3:
Additional framerate improvements and better touch input

And there seems to be some confusion how the emulator works.
1) Sideload the app to the phone by dev tools or some other means
2) The app appears in the xbox live tab among with other games.
3) Roms are added by typing in an direct http url (ie. http://www.myhomepages.com/roms/somegame.nes) and clicking download, if all goes well the rom appears on the main listbox.
3.5) Zip files are not supported. Get that Rom directly somehow
4) select rom and click play

Game controls feature sounds on/off, pause/play, save and load. (sounds are not playing on real device it seems)

Most of the nes roms should work.

[XAP + Source] Advanced Explorer

Helper app for the following tasks:

- File management
- Registry management
- Copy files from desktop to phone
- Copy files from phone to desktop
- Set max unsigned apps

Usage:
- extract the bin.zip
- Install the xap file
- you can double tab any file and it should open from any folder. To get PDF working I copy the file to the PDF reader (most likely the app will crash if Adobe reader is not installed), but you will not see anything as PDF reader just pops up with the file.
- If you want to use the Phone <-> Desktop Feature you have to connect your device (let Zune start) get your ip via ipconfig and replace the ip in remote settings and start the server (will most likely need administrator rights).
- The server (on the desktop) will create an UploadRoot and DownloadRoot folder. You will see all files from UploadRoot on the phone and all files from the phone will be dropped in the DownloadRoot folder
- In order to boost up the File system browsing there is a filter function (the search symbol) if you enter "a*" only files/folders starting with "a" will be shown

If you encounter any errors, or wanna give some feedback => just leave a post here!

Note: If you get "Can not delete Temp dir" Errors after some usage:
There are some files which Advanced Explorer can copy but not delete and one of them is now in the Temp folder, this is no critical error but it indicates that there are some files spoiling your free space. To delete those files just reinstall Advanced Explorer.

I included the source code, so that anybody can modify it at will but do not use anything here for commercial purposes (contact me first).

I added a Homepage for this project at:

- h t t p s ://sites.google.com/site/yaafdevelopers/projects/advanced-explorer-for-wp7

You can give feedback / bugreports at:
- h t t p ://advancedexplorer.idea.informer.com/

You will find the latest version and the Release-Notes there. I will continue to watch this Thread!

A new jailbreak coming soon for WP7

http://touchxperience.com/

Image

Windows Phone Device Manager allows you to manage your Windows Phone 7 device from your PC, you can simply view, install and uninstall "sideloaded" applications, explore device, transfer and sync files,... It is compatible with all Windows Phone 7 devices.

Windows Phone Device Manager detects when the phone is connected or disconnected, if you don't have a registered developer device it can automatically unlock your phone, so you don't need ChevronWP7 anymore.

You can also connect to your phone via Wi-Fi, for example to transfer files from/to your phone using Windows Phone Device Manager or the provided Windows Phone application.

If Windows Phone Device Manager becomes popular I think about creating an open marketplace for non-commercial applications. Developers are welcome to join the project!

A first version will be released in the next few days.

Registry Editor for Windows Phone 7 Beta Testing

This is a first public beta of Registry Editor for Windows Phone 7, please report any bug you may encounter.

Registry Editor for WP7 is a nice and full-featured registry editor and works on all WP7 devices, you can explore and search registry, create/edit/delete registry keys and values.

Registry Editor is for advanced users only, be careful using it, you have a full access to the registry, so deleting or modifying some values may result in unstable or unusable system. Furthermore I don't have any devices other than HTC to test, that's why I need beta testers.

New in version 1.1.0.0:

* Supports reading multistring and binary values
* Improved device support
* Fixed localized name

Registry Editor 1.1.0.0.xap

Fix For WP7 HD2 Battery Indicator Level

Guys i have found a way to fix battery indicator to show the battery level as it should be...
1) First of all charge your phone
2) After that go to registry editor on your phone and go to:

Code - Local machine/system/state/batteryux/MainIntervalIndex

and change the value from 6 (or any value it shows there) to 20...now press OK! You wil see that the battery level on top has been changed!
Now again edit it and go from 20 to 80 and press OK...
RESTART YOUR PHONE AND THEN CHARGE IT!
Now you will see that the battery level has changed and shows the battery level like it should be...
Until now it seems like its working... Will leave it unti later to see if the battery will continue to show the correct level...
Try it and tell me your thoughts!
You can find the registry editor attached below:

Now dealing with microsoft before and being an android user upon hearing the Phone OS alone I was not impressed, however, after reading up some of the notes you posted I must admit, I am a bit impressed.

u have to keep in mind that the hd2 came outfitted with windows os...now there's so many os's available for it, including android which is the most popular because of the availabity of apps...but u also have to keep in mind that a windows phone will always perform better with a windows os...i know the win6.5 os that came with this phone was crap, but seriously win7 on this device rocks!!!...it runs sweet and don't matter how many stuff u install on it, it doesn't seem to wanna crash as with android..

Access Windows Phone MarketPlace from anywhere with WP7 MarketPlace Enabler

Image

WP7 MarketPlace Enabler, goes a step further to make things more easy. It allows you to access the MarketPlace from anywhere in the world via your Zune software.

You will be able to download the free apps for free

For the Paid apps you will ofcourse be required to pay as usual, via your Credit Card. This should presumably also translate into more sales for the WP7 app developers.

Hopefully Windows Phone users from all over the world will now be able to enhance their Windows Phone functionality and use it too its fullest potential. A Windows Phone (or any phone for that matter) without apps does feel crippled, and this tool should help WP7 users realize the beauty of their new operating system from Microsoft.

To use this tool, first run the .exe file, from the drop-down menu select the country from where you want to access the MarketPlace and click Apply. It will add your country code to your Windows computers registry. Thats all!

Now connect your Windows Phone to your Windows PC.

Your Zune software will automatically start and you will be alerted with a following message: Features have changed. Click OK. You will see the Marketplace tab too now, in your Zune software.

Do note that, you may have to first run the Enabler, before, every time you connect your Windows Phone.

WP7 MarketPlace Enabler has been tried on and works with Zune software v 4.7.1404.0. It may or may not work with later versions.

Windows Phone 7 update on February 7

Microsoft may be gearing up to release its first Windows Phone 7 update on February 7 according to reports.

LiveSide has tracked a number of French sites that suggest Microsoft will release its first Windows Phone 7 update on February 7. There’s no proof that the date is accurate and the timing is odd given that Microsoft chief Steve Ballmer will be in Barcelona on February 14 for the Mobile World Congress. Whether or not the date is accurate, WinRumors can confirm that Microsoft has Released to Manufacturing (RTM) its first update codenamed “NoDo”.

Microsoft’s first update will improve application start-up and resume times and introduce the important copy and paste feature. Microsoft posted a support article earlier this week that details the update process for Windows Phone 7 devices. The support article has led many to believe that the update is due imminently.

Microsoft revealed earlier this week that it has now shipped 2 million devices to carriers. Microsoft previously revealed that the company had shipped 1.5 million Windows Phone 7 units between the October launch and December. Research firm IDC and application platform Appcelerator recently surveyed over 2,000 developersto work out their intent for 2011. Developer interest for Windows Phone 7 rose 8 points to 36% ‘very interested’ according to the results. IDC says the interest was “due to a better-than-expected launch.” Survey respondents also said that “Windows Phone’s improved UI was a critical factor for the increase.”

Microsoft also revealed there are now 24,000 registered Windows Phone developers and over 6,500 applications in the marketplace. Microsoft’s customer satisfaction rates on Windows Phone handsets are at 93% according to the company. Microsoft is believed to be planning to unveil a second bigger update in February at the Mobile World Congress show in Barcelona, Spain. Microsoft’s second update will introduce enhanced developer controls for applications and updated Silverlight components.

Joe Belfiore, who oversees Windows Phone Program Management, and is responsible for the design and software product definition of forthcoming generations of Windows phones will keynote MIX11 this year. Belfiore is expected to layout a roadmap for the future of Windows Phone 7 and detail Microsoft’s second Windows Phone 7 update. Microsoft is also working on a major overhaul of the Windows Phone 7 browser. In a job posting, listed in November, the software maker promises a “major overhaul of standard support and new approaches to make significant advances in performance, power consumption and bandwidth utilization.” Microsoft may be ready to detail its future Internet Explorer mobile plans at MIX in April too. Microsoft is believed to be planning Flash and HTML5 support for Windows Phone 7.
