Idlemind check pm :)

----
There is no 4.1 for iPad. The one before 4.2.1 is 3.2.2.

----

Ulyuh realize there is 3,3 (that is current i4 gen but... Not it as that was 3,1)

4,1 next gen and 4,2 maybe verizon spec.

But in other words it ain't a 3,x that means it should be a full revision no? No like what they did with 1,1 (2g) and 1,2 (3G).

New chipsets? Faster core? More ram? Plzzzzzz lol.

crap. Find my iPhone only works on 4.2 and up even if you have a older device and a newer device to register it on.

Apple lets you register up to 3 other (older) iOS devices on your iPhone 4 or new iPad to use Find My iPhone. However those older devices must be 4.2 or higher. So while I have a factory unlocked iPhone 4 I can register my wife's 3GS, but it wont work on her device until she gets 4.2 or higher - her phone is jailbroken and not factory unlocked.

Just some FYI for anyone wanting to do this.

-----------------------------------------------------------

On another note: Google Sync http://www.google.com/mobile/sync/
It's basically a personal google exchange server.
works SPECTACULARLY on the iPhone with the native apps, however if you want to sync your notes too with your gmail account you have to setup another regular gmail account and only turn on Notes (switch off mail, contacts & calendars as the exchange account will sync all of this for you). You will now see a Notes label in your gmail account with all your iPhone Notes saved and synced - unfortunately it's one way: updating a note on the phone will update gmail, but updating gmail wont update your phone (not that there is a way to update the note in gmail anyway). It's still a good way to have a backup of your notes searchable by gmail search.

boy... that tethered JB is what killing me in 4.2.1.

Aaron, when it loads up normally, does ultrasn0w run or you still have to go and boot tethered to have MobileSubstrate run?
in essence when Cydia doesnt open does unltrasn0w run?

Even as it prerpares for an imminent introduction of the iPad 2.0, Apple has begun sourcing components for iPhone 5, choosing Qualcomm for the baseband chip and a faster ARM chip for the processor.

Kinsus Interconnect Technology seems set to enter Apple’s supply chain for iPhone 5, as the new smartphone will adopt Qualcomm’s baseband chipsets, which use Kinsus IC substrates, according to a Chinese language Apple Daily report.

The report also claims Apple intends adopting a variant of ARM’s A8 processor, suggesting the company may continues using a version of its existing chip, rather than migrating to the A9 processor.

The existing A8-based Apple A4 chip is a single 1GHz processsor, with memory and graphics chips sandwiched inside the same die as the processor itself. However, Apple has been expected to move to a multi-core chip next year.

Qualcomm sources FC-CSP substrates from Kinsus and South Korea’s Semco, the report said, adding that Kinsus could account for 30-40% of the iPhone 5 orders. Orders are likely to land toward the end of the current quarter, reports claim, as the iPhone 5 seems scheduled to land in Q2.

------

Here is a quick little heads up for those of you who have been waiting for iPhone 4 unlock on 3.10.01 and 2.10.04 basebands. MuscleNerd of iPhone Dev-Team has confirmed now that no unlock will be released until iOS 4.3 / 4.2.5 (whichever is last) is public.

Official iPhone unlock statement: no unlock will be released until after 4.2.5 or official 4.3 (whichever is last) is out

Also, now that we will have two variations of iPhone 4, that is CDMA and GSM, with completely different baseband OS, it will be interesting to see if the Dev-Team will take the challenge of unlocking the CDMA-based iPhone 4 on Verizon so that we can make it work on other networks like Sprint.

Engadget claims they have just outed what we will be seeing next from Apple’s iOS device lineup. First, the next iPad. Supposedly the new iPad is on track for an April launch (not the very early 2011 launch that “insiders” claimed) and will include dual cameras (no surprise), a “super high-resolution” display, a dedicated SD card slot (that’s not a speaker), and a dual GSM/CDMA chip made by Qualcomm.

Next, the iPhone 5. Engadget claims the next-generation iPhone will be a “completely re-designed handset,” which is surprising seeing that Apple made some fairly-major design changes with the iPhone 4. The iPhone 5 will supposedly feature Apple’s new CPU, A5. The dual GSM/CDMA cellular/data chip from Qualcomm will reportedly also make it’s way to the iPhone 5. The report also notes that LTE-compatiblity won’t make the cut for Apple’s 2011 iOS device lineup.

Engadget also throws in one more hobby… Apple is reportedly already at work on the successor to the recently-redesigned Apple TV. The new Apple TV is said to include the speedy A5 chip from the iPhone 5 and that the chip is powerful enough to bring 1080P video to Apple’s set-top-box. The report says “the CPU is said to be blazingly fast, cranking out 1080p video ‘like running water.’” Also, Engadget has a pretty solid track record with their Apple scoops.

You can check here to check if an unlock is possible given your iPhone model (original, 3G, 3GS or 4), baseband version, firmware version & operating system to which you have access to. In the same regard you can check here concerning jailbreaks for iPhone, iPod touch, iPad & AppleTV.

I know zcrugby has & is currently using it on his iPhone 4. I am thinking about getting it for myself or waiting for Comex & his release. I was waiting on 4.1 but something went wrong with my 3rd party camera related apps (none were detecting that I had one) so I updated to 4.2.1.

You could check here for previous firmware versions for the iPad. As was pointed out, there was no 4.1 for the iPad. 4.2 was considered the 4.0 for it. The 2nd latest firmware is 3.2.2

BTW iOS users... if you all find your phone slowing down, try FakeClockUp

It speeds up the UIKit(i think) and makes it seem faster. Working really good on my 3GS. Things appear faster.

Breaking News

Steve Jobs taking medical leave of absence to focus on health. Tim Cook to run Apple on day-to-day basis. Steve remains as CEO.

Steve Jobs wrote:Team,

At my request, the board of directors has granted me a medical leave of absence so I can focus on my health. I will continue as CEO and be involved in major strategic decisions for the company.

I have asked Tim Cook to be responsible for all of Apple's day to day operations. I have great confidence that Tim and the rest of the executive management team will do a terrific job executing the exciting plans we have in place for 2011.

I love Apple so much and hope to be back as soon as I can. In the meantime, my family and I would deeply appreciate respect for our privacy.

Steve

Remembered last time when Phil Schiller was the interim CEO Apple stocks were slowly falling even through the introduction of the iPhone 3GS but once Steve returned the climb resumed.
Of course I wish him the best.

NB The drop which looks like its about from Oct. 08 to Jul 09. (I remember either seeing or posting a better detailed chart but can't seem to find it).

Just for the record the last leave of absence was from January 14th 2009 to June 30th 2009.

According to a report by AppleInsider, the next-gen iPhone and iPad will sport a dual-core SGX543 GPU from Imagination Technologies.

With the recent rumors of 2048×1536 high resolution display for the iPad 2, and references of drivers for SGX543 GPU in iOS 4.3 Beta SDK, this shouldn’t be all that surprising.

Apple’s next generation iPad and iPhone, both due the first half of this year, will pack a new version of the company’s custom A4 chip, with dual, faster graphics cores capable of supporting a Retina Display iPad and potentially bringing 1080p HD support to iOS devices, including Apple TV.

Since a dual-core GPU will naturally require a comparable CPU, it will be a no brainer for Apple to use dual-core CPUs as well.

------

MacNN cites two tips they received noting changes made to Boot Camp in Mac OS X 10.6.6. The first suggests that Apple has dropped support for Windows XP. When setting up a Windows partition, Boot Camp requests an "...authentic installation disc of Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional or Ultimate." XP isn't mentioned.

Also, users are discouraged from using software from a Mac OS X install disc or another computer in an attempt to find drivers and the like. Instead, Boot Camp will prompt you to download "additional software designed specifically for each Mac" to get your keyboards, etc. working

It seems that when Nintendo announced Apple as the enemy of the future last year, they may have been on to something. Apparently, Apple could be planning on including glasses-free 3D technology in the next iteration of the iPod touch, putting it in direct gaming competition with Nintendo's upcoming 3Ds hendheld gaming console.

The Apple aficionados at Macotakara allege that a trusted source has informed them that a Japanese manufacturer is currently preparing to produce a large quantity of glasses-free 3D capable LCD panels for the next generation iPod touch. An interesting rumor to be sure, but does it hold any water. In our opinion, not likely. While Apple does own a number of patents for 3D technology, the company's traditionally slow adoption of new technologies into their hardware (take Bluray, for example) would seem to exempt them from pushing new fangled-tech like glasses-free 3D into one of their most popular products... for the time being, at least.

------

Three Guys and a Podcast claims that Apple is preparing to discontinue the iTunes software application found on Macs and PC’s and replace it with a web-only application that is exclusive to Safari. The move is said to incorporate Apple’s new technology from Lala and leverage their new North Carolina data center. You will potentially download all your iTunes content from the web and play it through new iTunes controls in Safari. The move would bring a large new market to Apple’s Safari web browser, and the browser’s market share will probably climb significantly.

The report claims the new iTunes/Safari application will be unveiled later this year at Apple’s annual Fall music event. The report’s source claims “moving iTunes organizational side-bar into Safari isn’t a monumental task.” We personally don’t see this rumor becoming completely true. Some new cloud-based iTunes features are very probable, but the discontinuation of the much-loved (except for the icon) iTunes application seems like a stretch.
