you should have had the TSS Server running at least (doubt that would help with any others cept i4) your BB was updated :( that sucks tho.

No offence, but I don't know why people dont wait on a JB. If your phone is working why fcuk it up. 4.1 didnt bring anything so uber new.

And yes we fcuk up sometimes, but updating by your own will is no excuse :(

/rant

EDIT: running the TSS server is only for i4.

The iPhone Dev-Team has published a video demonstrating the upcoming SHAtter jailbreak for iOS 4.1.

The exploit (and payload) was developed by @pod2g a few months after @p0sixninja of the Chronic Dev Team discovered the crash. That team is hard at work bringing you a brand new tool to make use of the exploit. It’s not the sort of thing that can be developed overnight so please be patient while waiting for any announcements from them.

In the meantime, we’ve put @pod2g’s exploit into a beta version of PwnageTool to test the waters. The SHAtter exploit was enough to convince the iPod touch 4G to restore to our custom IPSW. The successful result is shown below!

Although PwnageTool was a useful first test of a full iPod 4G jailbreak via SHAtter, it’s really overkill compared to the faster tools being developed. Its main use in PwnageTool will be for those with iPhone4’s, to allow updates while preserving the baseband and ultrasn0w carrier unlock. In any event, this is another exciting time for iPhone and iPod touch users…the cat and mouse game continues!

The PwnageTool beta is for internal testing only. You can take a look at the video demonstration below...

Jailbreakers have been theming their iPhones for a long time, but if you like to refrain from jailbreaking, you can still change that app's ugly icon using previously mentioned iPhone Explorer.

Since iPhone Explorer is cross platform, this trick will work on Windows and Mac machines. All you need to do is open up iPhone Explorer or Phone Disk and navigate into the app's folder, located in /Apps/appname.app/appname.app.app (where appname is the name of the app you want to change and devicename is the name of your device). Within that folder, find the png file that is the icon, named something like icon@2x.png for an iPhone 4, or Icon.png for iPhone 3GS and below. Back that up and replace it with your own icon (you can usually find some good icons around sites like Iconspedia). Make sure the icon is in PNG format and is 114x114 pixels for the iPhone 4, 57x57 for the iPhone 3GS and earlier. After rebooting your phone, you should see the old icon replaced with your new one. Note that this only works with 3rd party apps from the App Store, not apps that come on your device.

i though u had a dev account (developers).

To the rest of you all, you all have to not only wait on a jailbreak but an unlock as well.

By now u all should realize not to rely on snowbreeze. :(

for me its dev team approved or nothing.

Apple iPad vs. BlackBerry PlayBook, Samsung Galaxy Tab, and HP Slate

------

If you still had any doubt that the new Apple TV runs iOS, this will surely make you a believer. Apple has already placed iOS 4.1 for the 2nd-gen Apple TV on their servers and yeah… get downloading! (This won’t actually do any good for you until you need to restore or something like that)

Image

------

Apple has given its approval to the Google Voice App for iPhone, which should be available at the App Store “soon”. Some changes were required to make the app work the iPhone 4 and iOS’s multitasking capabilities. The move follows Apple’s move to block the app last July of last year and its subsequent decision to relax its app guidelines for App development in September. Asked for comment about the upcoming iPhone application, Google told Techcrunch: “We currently offer Google Voice mobile apps for Blackberry and Android, and we offer an HTML5 web app for the iPhone. We have nothing further to announce at this time.”

------

Well, what do we have here? The current iPhone 4 is actually called iPhone 3,1 in Apple product speak. The AppleTV firmware makes reference to new versions 3,2 and 3,3. There had been previous mentions of new iPhones but here it is in black and white.

Verizon? Sprint? China Mobile? T-Mobile? Antennas? All very good questions. No answers yet.

On a side note sorta related to this, it would be nice if the TriniTuner image uploader would, as it says, supports .png files.

Mozilla has announced that there will be no Firefox browser for the iPhone in a new blog entry posted yesterday.

We are working to bring as much of your Firefox experience as possible to Firefox Home. People have asked about adding more browser-like features to Firefox Home, but there are technical and logistical restrictions that make it difficult, if not impossible, to build the full Firefox browser for the iPhone. We are focused on building Firefox Home as a rich, cloud-based application and making it a valuable product that people will continue to love and use.

------

The iPad got a new animation for quick-app-switching/multitasking in beta 2 of iOS 4.2. Here’s a video of it in action:

------

We’ve been waiting for years for Apple to include 3G chips in their notebooks and it looks like they’ve finally got a patent on it. The patent uncovered by Patently Apple sounds really confusing so we’ll break it down: It’s pretty much a patent for 3G antennas housed all around an Apple notebook.

Image

------

YouTube has had a feature for sometime on their desktop web video upload client that allows video uploaders to choose whether their video is public, private, or unlisted. Public’s for the world to see, private is for you and your bros, and unlisted makes the video only viewable from a direct link or embed.

Image

That feature has just arrived in iOS 4.2 beta 2 and hopefully it sticks around for the public launch… which it probably will.

------

idk streetlifestyle. For the next maybe few days things gonna be tight for me. Got some things to catch up on. At the same time though, what do you propose?

my dear friend, first of all congratulations on the marriage, but sad to say, this is my advice:
Unless u have good experience in coding and using IDA, etc. go get a me2 and use it. Sorry but downgrading of any sort WILL NOT downgrade a baseband. unless you have an old bootrom, then bootneuter might help you (i doubt though if it's updated for 05.14.02). Downgrading your f/w will give u a chance to jailbreak, but i bet if you check your about page, you will see you are on 05.14.02 Modem Firmware. And yes you can more than be able to downgrade because i believe you had your shsh's backed up, so u can try 4.0.x and use redsn0w 0.95b5-5 to jailbreak.

If you watched my last post, i edited and grayed out the part about tinyumbrella. This is only for those who do not rely on an unlock n wish to try it AND iPhone 4 only according to them. If you remember, Musclenerd and notcom were saying how the baseband on the i4 is not like the previous iPhones. Downgrading /may/ be possible, etc.

Alternatively, you can /try/ to decompile ultrasn0w and understand it and new baseband (05.14.02) and try to find a new exploit on your own in that baseband. I admit i am a huge n00b in coding. I reached as far as decompiling in IDA of SE firmwares but i gave up. Maybe bez or the others has experience in this.

But again, easiest is to just use another phone, put the 3G aside for the while sadly. Again sorry it had to be this way.

A new version of TinyUmbrella is in the works which will bring many new features and new user interface.

TinyUmbrella is a tool by Semaphore which helps you save your SHSH Blobs. These blobs are necessary for downgrading the firmware of your device.

Check out some screenshots of the upcoming version below...

BillShrink has produced an interesting infographic that takes a look at how popular the iPhone really is.

Check it out below...

Today Sega announced that Sonic 4 will arrive in the App Store on October 7th, according to a TouchArcade report.

Today Sega announced the official release date for Sonic 4, and strangely enough, it will hit the App Store before all the other platforms on October 7th. Following that, it will appear on the Wii on October 11th, PlayStation Network on October 12th, and Xbox Live Arcade on October 13th. Needless to say, as soon as we get our hands on the final game we'll post a full review.

Check out the video preview below...

------

A look inside the newly released Apple TV has discovered that the device, powered by Apple's custom A4 processor, includes a small 8GB of onboard storage and the same 256MB of RAM found in the iPad and fourth-generation iPod touch.

iFixit wasted no time digging inside Apple's set top box upgrade Wednesday, and offers a peek inside the hardware, which is a quarter the size of its predecessor. Inside, they found its limited storage capacity, much smaller than its predecessor due to the streaming-centric nature of the new Apple TV.

The new Apple TV uses a Samsung K9LCG08U1M 8GB NAND Flash chip, which is the same part found during the site's iPad teardown. The memory is likely used to cache content that is being streamed.

"This is a pretty remarkable amount of storage for a $99 device," the solutions provider wrote.

Interestingly, logic board on the hardware shows solder pads that would fit an iPod 30-pin dock connector, perhaps implying what could come in future versions of the hardware.

------

A report out of the Far East early Thursday claims that Apple has decided on its lineup of component suppliers for the fifth-generation iPhone and second-generation iPad -- both of which will reportedly obtain baseband chips from CDMA inventor Qualcomm.

Rumors that Apple would dump Infineon chipsets in future versions of the iPhone began nearly a year ago when it was reported that Apple and Qualcomm met to discuss "future cooperation." Those sentiments were echoed once again, this time just three weeks ago when the Commercial Times pointed at Qualcomm-based iPhone 5.

Known largely as the inventor of CDMA -- the cellular standard behind the wireless networks of Verizon and Sprint -- Qualcomm has said it plans to produce dual-carrier chips that would enable future phones to work on both CDMA/EVDO carriers like Verizon and Sprint, as well as rival 3GPP carriers that use UMTS/HSPA+ technology like AT&T and T-Mobile.

Though the latest report Thursday by Taipei's Economic Daily News does not insinuate that the alleged Qualcomm design win will lead to a CDMA (Verizon or Sprint) iPhone, there have been other anecdotal pieces of evidence to that end, like AppleInsider's discovery of a cryptic "iPhone developer guru" job posting on the Qualcomm website in August.

Meanwhile, that same report also claims knowledge of over a half-dozen other iPhone 5 and iPad 2 component suppliers -- many of which have remained the same. They include: CPU from Samsung, Wi-Fi chip from Marvell, Flash memory from Intel, touch screen controller by Broadcom, audio chip from Wolfson, video processor from National Semiconductor/Infineon, Bluetooth from CSR and power management from TI.

Did you know that there's a 're-imagined' version of the classic 1970's television series Hawaii Five-O currently airing on CBS? Well, neither did we, but there is, and apparently, this guy (pictured above) talked to that smaller guy (also pictured above) on FaceTime on the episode which aired recently. We hope everything went well.

------

The Apple TV has just been jailbroken by MuscleNerd via the SHAtter exploit but is not yet ready for primetime. MuscleNerd states that he is “not quite sure how to run apps yet!” but if past history repeats itself, the dev team should be able to get Apple TV apps working.

Image

------

Image

If you’re an iPhone 3GS owner, and feel shafted by your phone’s inability to take HDR photos, there still may be hope. 9to5Mac is reporting that resources in the latest iteration of the Apple’s iPhone SDK may indicate that support could be coming to the aging 3GS. The blog writes:
The iPhone 3GS is the only iPhone that is physically (hardware capabilities) able to capture HDR shots so we figure that non-Retina icon is for the 3GS not the original or 3G model. How do we know the other icon is not for the Retina Display? Apple has a very simple labeling process which places an “@2x” on image titles for the Retina Display and places nothing of that sort next to “iphone” on non-retina iPhones.

So there you have it. If you’re looking for HDR capabilities on your iPhone 3GS, and don’t feel like going the jailbreak route, your dreams may be just a software update away.

seems some 3G users are able to downgrade their basebands using fuzzyband via cydia. Which means...... 4.1 UNLOCKED!

BL must be 5.8 (i think)

yessss that;s the name! mixed it up with the one for 2G (bootneuter) . I did a post on that before where sadly pops 3G is 5.9. 5.8's are the first set of 3G's they released.

In other news, i was looking at Digicel's 2G/Edge "plans" for non contract ppl. It actually isnt bad. I'd only use it for push (and free texts using heywire) and it's like $161 tax incl. for 4 weeks of 40MB of data.

So i was looking for an app to monitor my data usage. I looked at Data Counter but... yuck! besides its mobile substrate support, that's all it has over another app. You can't customize your plan at all.

So i posted on twitter and in seconds DataMan bot replied to me...

Feel free to check them out, for 99c it's a steal!

The only thing is that it relies on your location :( so that heats up your phone... and it must run in the background

but it is 10 times better than Data Counter. Check a review here (i'd do one as well):
