Not exactly true, superman always holds back his true potential in fear he would hurt someone.

There is an episode of justice league where superman did not hold back, darkside did not stand a chance.

Of course superman used his heat vision.

under his "special" adrenaline.. he cannot be affected by the green stone... wen he comes out of it though..good as gone!
