Apple cinema display would be better.

Also dual radeon HD 5970 4GB in crossfire would be much better especially since you using it for CAD etc.

CPU is good.

RAM is good.

You don't need 1200 watts PSU to power dual 480 GTX in SLI neither. If you do then that meas Nvidia's cards are horrible at efficiency and that alone I won't buy it.

Sound card is crap. All of Creative's offerings are rubbish compared to ASUS xonar right now.

Apart from that this is a bess monster rig.

We have a Render rig at firstchoice with a core i7 Extreme OC 5GHZ on water that we use to render 3D animations etc. Must say its a bess CPU

However the benchmarks do prove that AMD Phenom II X6 Black outperforms a core i7 extreme in terms of professional use. It wins in 3DS MAX and Cinema 4D etc etc.

Had a big thread on it in misc section not to long ago.

Prerequisites in order to qualify for Chest Beating:

1) Must have more than 24GB RAM
2) Must have 4 cores and/or 8 threads and more.
3) SSD

feel free to add.

the SSD is very important you cannot have a real super computer without a SSD

your super pc will still load like a 1985 windows 3.1 pc if you continue to use a hard drive.

no...what u building is an impractical piece of equipment that will be outdated by the time u actually build it...definition from wikipedia:

A supercomputer is a computer that is at the frontline of current processing capacity, particularly speed of calculation

My 2¢

Most thread Windows apps don scal well beyond 4 cores. Well coded apps don't scale well beyond 16. HT may help here and there but not much. So 2 CPUs with HT disabled might have been a bette choice for cad.

A Hardware Raid controller with more SSD would have given you more performance too.

There is a little app called RiverTuner that can switch those NVidia in to Quadros so good choice there.

But seriously, at that price level, a workstation build would have been better.

If you're limit is 50k you should be building levels and levels of code to make money...If all of this is just for gaming......this is a waste......buy an alien-ware system and chill out..you'll still have money in your pocket and will be able to play any game out there.

it does what you want it to to, or do you need higher specs to compensate for your self-image?
