What does P0730 Gear Ratio Control Malfunction mean?

A mechanic told me that it means i need to change the solenoid in my transmission.

Is this true? If not what do I need to do?

The vehicle is a Mazda 232 BJ Model.

Yeah well it is a transmission problem. He could be right because the solenoids direct fluid to the appropriate clutch packs, controlling your shift points. It could also be caused by worn clutches inside the transmission (slipping). That would mean that the computer detected differences in speed between the shafts. You mechanic seems to know what he's talking about.

Have you noticed any slipping or hanging in between shifts?

Yeah I have noticed a slight of slipping in the shifts. I was doing some research and did find some stuff about it on page 24 of this pdf:

So, tmrw its back by the mechanic to get it fixed, now that i kno he wasnt tellin me b/s.

Btw, you know whats the avg price on a solenoid for this model car?

Nah. I don't have any information on the price locally, but they cost about 15 - 20 dollars U.S.

Just an update here..i got it fixed, but it wasnt the solenoids, but rather some belts in the transmission..got those changed an the car is working fine now!

thats a long thread..tmrw ill have a look an see if its oozing the tar like stuff..but i didnt change it as yet, it too expensive to buy right now..but as soon as i get the chance ill buy it..they didnt say what happens if you dont change it though..oh ho..btw, i was lookin for a left side rear view mirror (just the glass, not the whole setup)..checked through a couple places in the bamboo, but they only selling the entire thing..u kno where i can get one?
