Honestly, you don't need a flash. I also have a Galaxy S phone and LED Flash tends to be only good for a couple feet in front of you. What would be nice is a Xenon flash. Either way the settings on the Galaxy S camera is superb. Changing the iso settings as well as some of the saturation settings in low light compensate incredibly for no flash.

About Digicel's ..milestone offering. I heard it was priced at 5000. which is robbery. Perhaps they are going to finally offer an unlimited data plan :D

nice fox/grapes syndrome. You can survive in low light situations sometimes but the photos often come out blurry and still a bit dark. A flash would have done wonders.

If you're trying to say I would defend the phone because i Own it, valid assumption in general but wrong in this case. If something is bad its bad, however this is not such a case.

If you're trying to say because i now have the phone and it doesn't have flash I find the need to say it doesn't need flash then you are wrong again. I researched the phone before i bought it...(of course) I saw reviews of the camera, i saw sample pics, I read people's opinions. I bought the phone and came to similar conclusion. No case of "sour grapes" which is what i think you're intending to say. I simply have come to a conclusion after my experience. If it sucked, I believe or I hope i would be honest. Thank goodness thats not a problem since it doesn't suck or need an LED flash.

Survive in Low light? you don't own the phone do you? The only flash that means anything is a xenon Flash. LED is pointless especially these tiny LED's on phones. Same goes for dual LEDs. Phone LEDs tend to be only useful for something like 4 or 5 feet. If a picture at night is so important to its best you walk around with a digital camera because NO phone camera is gonna give you decent pictures at night, anyhow you take it.

Like i said it doesn't need a flash, but Xenon would still be nice. In Low light conditions it does fine.

There is a comparison on phone arena showing the evo 4g vs the droid x or droid 2 can't remember. Their lowlight/LED flash, of which EVo has dual LEDs illustrate extremely blurry, grainy photos. The exhibit the same things you accused the galaxy of having, even with the flash. Hope you find the pics :)

Toshiba Smart Pad imagery emerges, claims to be the real deal

Image

Technically speaking, we already know what Toshiba's Smart Pad will look like. It was waved around in Australia briefly, and these shots seem to match it perfectly, but corroboration for their validity is otherwise light on the ground. Should you opt to trust them, after the break you'll find visual confirmation for the HDMI and USB ports already promised by Toshiba, along with a memory card reader and a pleasingly slender profile. The four touch buttons on its right side just scream Android as the operating system, and the whole thing again reminds us of the Compal tablet we saw back at CES and subsequently accused of being a Toshiba-in-waiting. Notebook Italia expects this bad boy to step out of the shadows properly at IFA this year, and we already know Toshiba is cranking hard on bringing us a tablet of some description by the end of October. Fun times ahead, eh?

Video: 7-Inch Samsung Galaxy Tab, Prowling In the Wild

Oh hello there, Samsung Galaxy Tab. Fancy seeing you here, being tested on a bus in Sydney! From the looks of it, you're going to be a downright decent iPad alternative when you're released next month.

This video, taken by Electronista operatives, doesn't do much more than confirm the look of the tablet and show off a responsive Android interface. It's too distant a shot to allay our concerns about the device's spec sheet, but at least the worker fiddling with it thinks it's "awesome."

I've had mine since the beginning of July sir. 1st person in Trinidad to own one.

Here's a video I made more than a month ago.

And as someone who has owned it for two months now, I can tell everyone here that lack of a camera flash is a bad design choice and the camera module in general is average at best. The sensor does ALOT of work to keep up in low light situations which results in blurry and noisy photos. A flash would have been perfect for this phone.

haha good one.

I just happen to have a 5 megapixel camera phone from 2009 with dual LED flash.

I also happen to have my Galaxy S.

How about tonight I do a comparison photo to prove you wrong?

You may, not sure it would prove anything though but you may. I find it somewhat troubling you keep accusing me of things though, first of sour grapes and now of making a joke i guess. I'm simply presenting a case for what i believe. You obviously have a different perspective from me.

In my experience I have no problem with it and if i truly want good photos cause i'm going out with friends at night, we have digital cameras. If it is such a problem for you though then I expect you will upgrade when you can.

Problem fixed no?

edit - http://www.phonearena.com/htmls/Motorol ... 7-p_3.html the comparison photos i spoke about. Granted the low light/dark with and without flash pictures are in full resolution and therefore easy to see the noise/fuzziness. I don't see what is the sense in using a phone camera at night anyway. The all pretty much suck.

Would be cool if your 2009 phone is a nokia though with xenon ;) those would probably looks pretty "okay"

Samsung Galaxy Tab gets official teaser video

Image

Image

Whoa, now we're talking. It's short, sweet, and dramatic, yet the official Samsung Galaxy Tab teaser video still manages to reveal a number of features previously only rumored. We've got Android 2.2 running on a 7-inch display, video calling, Swype, HD movie playback, "Flash support," GPS navigation, an e-reader, and plenty more. Now get ready to be teased mercilessly by the video embedded after the break -- it's as close as you'll get before the official reveal in Berlin (at IFA) on September 2nd. Yeah, we'll be there.

Update: here's a few other things we've noticed from the trailer. In addition to the aforementioned details, the floating text also references augmented reality and video calling (perhaps indicating a front-facing camera as well). Speaking of cameras, you'll notice in one shot what appears to be a LED flash bulb next to the camera. Must we really wait another 9 or so days?

Google Voice and Gmail Mix to Make U.S. Calls Free
Google has turned its e-mail service into a fully Web-based Voice-over-IP system that lets you talk to people with landlines and cell phones all over the world.

Harry McCracken, Technologizer

I try to restrain myself from calling any new tech product or service a killer. But Google just announced that it’s integrating Google Voice into Gmail, turning its e-mail service into a fully Web-based Voice-over-IP system that lets you talk to people with landlines and cell phones all over the world. And…well, it looks like it could be an awfully compelling Skype alternative. Especially since calls to cell phones and landlines in the U.S. and Canada that you’d pay for with Skype are free.

The integration adds a cool new feature to Gmail, but as a long-time Google Voice addict, I’m even more excited about what it does for that service. Now those of us with Google Voice numbers can use it in a new way, and without burning through mobile phone minutes.

A few details on the service, which rolls out today to U.S. Gmail users (Google Apps Gmail accounts aren’t yet supported, alas):

–Google says it has no plans to charge for calls within the U.S. and Canada; ones to dozens of other countries are two cents a minute;

–You can both make outgoing calls to landlines and receive incoming ones; both types are integrated with your Gmail address book;

–As before, Google Voice can ring multiple phones at once in order to reach you wherever you are–it’s just that one of the “phones” it can now ring (once you’ve enabled the option) is Gmail;

–You don’t need a Google Voice phone number to make calls;

–You can switch calls back and forth between the Gmail interface and cell phones or landlines;

–Google is touting the audio quality–and says that it’s great even if you just use your computer’s built-in microphone and speakers rather than a headset;

–The feature uses technology from both the Google Talk voice chat feature and Gizmo5, a VoIP company which Google bought last year;

–Google doesn’t have anything to say about the interesting idea of integrating Google Voice into the version of Gmail for mobile phones (you can already use Google Voice on your phone, but it’s making and receiving standard calls, not free VoIP ones);

–It also isn’t saying anything about a Google Voice app for PCs or Macs (which seems like it might be especially handy for incoming calls–right now, you need to have Gmail open and switch to it to answer a call);

–Google plans to install red Google Voice phone booths–yes, phone booths–at airports and college campuses to let folks try the service.

Samsung Galaxy Tab gets video preview in Korea

Image

It sees like we can't let a day pass without talking about Samsung's upcoming Froyo tablet. This time there's a whole video preview, courtesy of some of our Korean brethren. Android 2.2, WCDMA 3G, 802.11n WiFi, a 16:10 screen ratio, a front-facing camera "dedicated to video calling," SDHC memory expandability, and a DMB tuner for those TV-crazy Koreans are all listed on the spec sheet, but you'll be wanting to see the Galaxy Tab's UI in motion. It really looks silky smooth and should give the iPad cause for concern. Speaking of the iPad, there's a size comparison against Apple's slate and Samsung's own Galaxy S handset as well.

All of Google's Acquisitions In One Epic Graphic

Having a hard time keeping track of all of those little (and sometimes not so little) companies Google's been snatching up? Here's every last one, as well as when they were bought and what Big G's using them for.

But I especially appreciate how the people at Scores sorted the acquisitions into two columns: revenue-building and competitor revenue-cutting. Business! It's so simple.

I'm aware that the phone needs to be unlocked but after that, you aare presented with a screen with the green android like the poster above me posted. I watched the video and read the xdadevelopers page but I'm getting mixed results from people. Some say it works and others say it doesn't. They also say I can change the pan settings for it to used with my data plan. However, I'll have to borrow soneones Sim for that method. I dont have access to the phone Noe since I gave it to someone to try and fix it for me. However, in gonna try to get it back to try this. Did it work for your Nexus One? Or did you change the APN settings to get through this activation screen? By the way, this is the MyTouch 3G 1.2 kit. The device with the 3.5mm headphone jack. In sure people here had/have this phone and was presented with the same screen as I am. How did you guys bypass it? Thanks for all the help so far. I appreciate it!
