With millions of iPhones in users' hands and a huge number of photograph apps in the App Store, this project seemed inevitable. Photographer David Cleland of FlixelPix has launched iPhonific, an gallery for straight-from-the-iPhone snaps; no Photoshop or Aperture allowed.

That isn't to say that tweaking is frowned upon. Instead, it's restricted to App Store apps. The idea is that you shoot, edit and upload your photos entirely with the iPhone. Hardware tweaking isn't out of the question either (DIY DSLR, anyone?) as long as the image never hits a laptop or desktop computer prior to submission.

The shots are broken down into categories, and the neat thing is that each snap lists the apps used to process it prior to submission. For example, Camera+ and Photo fx were used on this image.

For now it's largely a gallery of David's work but he tells me that he'll be opening it up to "Guest "iPhonographers" soon. It's a fun idea. Check it out if you're into shooting pictures with your iPhone.

We'd actually already hacked up a 3G FaceTime video call using an iPhone 4 and a MiFi, but now that Apple's latest handset has been jailbroken, you can toss the extra hardware -- you just need a little Cydia app called My3G, which lets you run WiFi apps over 3G. FaceTime video quality appears to be unaffected, but from what we've seen the framerates suffer depending on your connection -- pretty much what you'd expect to get when running a video stream optimized for high-bandwidth connections on a smaller pipe. Still, it's instantly the best reason to jailbreak your phone -- check a video after the break.

P.S.- If you're averse to jailbreaking, remember that Fring lets you make video calls over 3G without any shenanigans -- and unlike FaceTime, you can also video call non-iPhone users. Just sayin'!

Also, some news, z and ALL will be interested in. Z i bet will be lol'n. (he is so mean i must admit, lol'n at ppl demise :P )

If you all wish to have an iPhone 4 that is not on official carrier or not officially unlocked.. all the previously hidden tasks must now be accomplished outside of jailbreakme.com

have a lil read of how to get it going on T-Mobile:

http://i-enthusiast.com/2010/08/get-your-iphone-on-t-mobile/

Of course if you buy it from CAN, FR, UK, etc. you dont have to do this.

here is a lil read out as to why:
Because many people were asking here’s some info why all this work is needed. On all previous jailbreaks they were what’s called low level exploits. This allowed the devs to patch the CommCenter to allow for unsigned ipcc’s to be used upon boot. Because the last 2 jailbreaks have been based on userland exploits (or what’s called high level) the CommCenter is not patched and must be modified manually after the jailbreak process. In reality all this hard work was being done in the background without the user having to worry about it before. (another reason to thank the devs for their hardwork) From what i hear a few jailbreak devs are trying to find a work around to allow CommCenter patching by installing a file from Cydia. Rest assured they are trying to make it easy. If you can wait then I would but if you need your phone on an unofficial carrier now this guide should do the trick.

Of course at some point they MIGHT release a work around.

Z, how is the JB thus far?

It would appear that, at least in this particular build, Apple is no longer letting the iPhone 3G play along with the rest of us in Gamecenter. Is this just a short term thing or are the iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G (and previous products) being left out of the game?

The very much anticipated Ultrasn0w carrier unlock is now available for the iPhone 4. Simply search for it in Cydia and get going!

Image

We've heard that 3G is still not supported on T-Mobile USA so be sure to disable 3G in the network settings of your iPhone. If you don't see it in Cydia try adding the repo: http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com.

iPhone Dev Team wrote:grow, grow ultrasn0w!
We’re happy to tell you that our ultrasn0w carrier unlock now supports the iPhone4!

Image

Version 1.0-1 of ultrasn0w works for:

iPhone4 baseband 01.59
3G/3GS basebands 04.26.08, 05.11.07, 05.12.01 and 05.13.04
(If ultrasn0w doesn’t show when you search Cydia, add the repo: repo666.ultrasn0w.com)

Here is a nice howto video from @TechTechManTV that shows the process on the iPhone 4.

Apple's taken yet another step into the enterprise with its iPhone and iPad closing in on some huge endorsements for the firm, one from the BBC, the other from the EU Commission.

The BBC is running a limited iPad trial in some departments to evaluate how feasible it is to use the Apple device to reduce wated paper and boost efficiency.

iPads are being made available to the BBC's UK production, location and technical departments. Several managers have also been given iPads to see if it can replace desktop computers.

BBC CIO John Linwood revealed the details of the trial in an interview with UK magazine Computing.

"We're seeding the organisation [with the devices]," he said. "We put some iPads into production and some into management and other roles to see if people would be able to give up their desktops."

Meanwhile, the British Army is also using the iPad. UK troops have started using the device to help with artillery training.

"A lot of our training is directed at young soldiers who don't respond well to the traditional PowerPoint lecture," said Major Richard Gill of the training development branch. "Our solutions are developed very much with the iPod generation in mind."

There's more: The European Union Commission rejected Research in Motion's BlackBerry in favor of Apple's iPhone and HTC smartphones, a spokesman said.

A 2008 evaluation saw the EU choose these devices as being the most suitable platforms for voice/mail-centric mobile devices. About 2,500 EU staff are affected.

British bank Standard Chartered said earlier this year it was giving its staff the option to replace the BlackBerry with the iPhone, a move that could eventually result in thousands of bankers switching.

Chpwn, the developer of popular jailbreak-only apps such as ProSwitcher and Infinidock is back with another soon-to-be hit with "Infinifolders." This tweak for jailbroken iOS devices takes Apple's iOS 4 folders system and breaks the 12-app barrier to allow the placement of an unlimited amount of apps in a folder.

As you can see in the promotional video above, the user simply needs to flick up and down (like a list) to reveal more apps. The tweak is now available on Cydia for $1.99.

MiTube is a universal application that streams and downloads videos from YouTube to your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad.

You can download MiTube from the App Store for free but it may not be there for long considering that similar applications (ie MarchTube) were promptly removed.

A July ChangeWave survey has taken an in-depth look at the reactions and opinions of 213 Apple iPhone 4 owners, according to InvestorPlace.

The survey found that 72% of iPhone 4 owners are very satisfied and 21% are somewhat satisfied with their device. This is actually lower then the iPhone 3GS initial ratings of 82% and 17% satisfaction. Its thought that the lower numbers for the iPhone 4 might be due to the much publicized antennagate controversy.

Image

iPhone 4 owners said Screen Resolution (49%) was their favorite phone feature, followed by the 5 Megapixel Camera with LED Flash (31%) and the Touch Screen Interface (30%).

Image

The most disliked feature of the iPhone 4 was the the Requirement to Use AT&’s Network(27%) and the Coverage/ Speed/ Quality of AT&T’s 3G Network(24%). Antenna problems also tied AT&T quality issues for the second most disliked feature.

Image

The survey found that since September 2008, Verizon’s call drop rating has improved slightly while AT&T’s has continued to worsen.

Image

Notably, iPhone 4 owners reported a better dropped call rating (5.2%) than their 3GS counterparts (6.3%).

iLounge has published some information on the upcoming iPod, iPhone, and iPad lineups from a 'highly reliable source'.

If you remember our exclusive first details on the iPad, iPod nano 4G and 5G, you’ll know that our sources’ accuracy level is very high but not perfect, which is about as good as can be expected given the nature of Apple-related leaks. (Except for ones posted by the always impressive John Gruber, who appears to be getting pre-release information directly from Apple.)

iPods
iLounge has heard that there are three new iPods ready to launch this month or next. A new nano, a new touch, and possibly a new 1.7" touchscreen shuffle. Other chatter involves a three-inch touchscreen for the iPod touch, shaving half an inch off the diagonal.

iPad
A seven inch iPad will reportedly be announced late this year or early 2011.

iPhone
Apple is reportedly pushing up the release date of the fifth-generation iPhone to early 2011 (as soon as January) due to antenna issues with the iPhone 4. It’s unclear if the iPhone components will be repackaged into a difference shell. iLounge finds this one hard to believe.

iPhone 4 Bumpers
Apple is currently working on a less expensive all-silicone version of the Bumper to give away after September. iLounge's source says Apple was considering giving away free Bumpers before taking the chance to launch with the bare device.

Crackberry has performed a browser speed test between the Blackberry Torch, iPhone 4, Samsung Captivate, and Blackberry Bold.

The iPhone 4 clearly comes out the winner much to the disappointment of the reviewer* who also saw the Samsung beat the Blackberry Torch.

In other news, remember the hack that @sherif_hashim posted wrt to activating using a PB sim? well... that was err fixed by Apple.

What you can try is using an activated lockdownd file from another iphone and implant it using iFunBox, etc. into the phone.

see here:

using a legit carrier sim doesnt have this issue i think, thankfully.

New email based FaceTime support has been found in the third beta of iOS 4.1, according to a MacRumors report.

A new option in the iOS "Contacts" application allows users to make FaceTime calls using either a phone number or an email address. This would allow FaceTime compatibility with devices not associated with a phone number such as future camera-enabled iPads and iPod touches.

BoyGeniusReport outlined how this will work last month, "Your Apple ID will be registered with your device/s, and that will allow other Apple devices to start a FaceTime call using your email address. Apple will also reportedly make use of push notifications to deliver these incoming FaceTime connection requests as we have been informed there is a push notification detector tied into the FaceTime frameworks in the new iPhone OS 4.1 beta."

Apple is widely expected to bring FaceTime to the iPad and the iPod touch. Just yesterday images of a front LCD and bezel of the upcoming 4th generation iPod Touch may have been leaked online. Typically Apple updates the iPod lineup in September.

Image

------

Apple could hold its iPod-centric event sooner than the expected September timeframe, with an event rumored to take place either Aug. 16 or 17.

Citing a "reliable source within Apple," Brazilian publication MacMagazine reported Friday (via Google Translate) that Apple will hold an event either Aug. 16 or 17, a Monday or Tuesday. That would be sooner than the September timeframe in which many have expected that Apple will introduce its new iPod lineup.

The publication said that the music and media-centric event will be used to introduce a new iPod touch with a front-facing camera for FaceTime, as well as a rear camera with flash for taking pictures. It also said that Apple will add a gyroscope to the next-generation iPod touch -- all features found in the recently released iPhone 4.

The alleged August event would coincide with a recent rumor that suggested Apple would launch an updated version of its iLife suite this month. That report alleged that all of the applications -- iPhoto, GarageBand and iWeb -- would be upgraded to 64 bits, and that a new "mystery" application would be a part of the package. It also claimed that iDVD would not be included, and instead would be made available for download like iMovie HD.

Rumors of Apple's upcoming iPod refresh have gained considerable steam this week, with rumored products, illustrations of third party cases, and even purported components of Apple's next-generation iPod touch surfacing online.

Last year's media event, where the iPod nano with a video camera and FM tuner was announced, was held on a Wednesday, Sept. 9.

------

Barron's has a set of predictions today from BMO Capital analcyst Keith Bachman:

-For starters, he sees the company launching two new iPods in September (SHOCKER - also swallows returning to Capistrano)

-More interestingly, he thinks that 1.7 inch Apple screen (BTW-original site got a C&D order) will be the new window into a smaller Nano, which will also "do away with the physical scroll wheel" (current one isn't physical - but whatever) which likely indicates that the screen will be touch enabled. All 1.7 inches of it. I guess thats enough to imitate the features of a scroll wheel. Or perhaps the back will be touchy scrolly?

-He also thinks, based on supplier checks, that Apple will release two new MacBook Airs in September as well. These will be cheaper and therefore appeal to a much broader audience. (If they still top out at 2GB of RAM, non-upgradable, I'll kick a puppy!) Frankly, Apple should make MacBook Airs their primary MacBooks. Most people don't need to lug around a DVD drive with them everywhere (USB!) and SSD's will be dropping in price over the next few years.

-Also iPhone still selling like hotcakes (uses 3 week lead time on website as proof).

DISCLAIMER: The compiled binaries are based upon ALPHA code by COMEX. Code from the github repository can change minutely creating a significantly more stable version of code. DO NOT expect this compiled code to work on every Flash object or even be the slightest bit stable.

So, jailbreak for the iPhone 4 is out and comex seems to have gotten around to updating the Frash source on github for both iOS and iPhone 4. Hooray! I set out on a mission to compile it from scratch. Here I’ll detail the steps you need to produce to compile it and provide a pre-compiled binary for the less so technical (or lazy). This is essentially Frash version 0.02, but as noted before, the github repository can be updated at any time fixing any number of bugs.

As far as I know this will only work with armv7 devices, so: iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 3G, iPad, iPhone 4. iOS4 / iPad 3.2.x only.

HOW TO INSTALL

1. Download the precompiled binary (Frash-0.02.deb | Mirror) and SFTP it to /tmp on your iPhone/iPad

2. SSH into your phone as root and type:

dpkg -i /tmp/Frash-0.02.deb
NOTE: If you had Frash 0.01 installed on your iPad, remove it first (look for it in Cydia packages). Also, I haven’t yet tested this on iPad, but it certainly works on iPhone 4 with iOS 4.0.1.

3. Reboot your device if you want, but you shouldn’t need to.

Vonage had released their VoIP iPhone app back in September last year.

They have recently released a new iPhone app aptly called Vonage Mobile for Facebook that allows iPhone and iPod Touch users to call their Facebook friends for free.

You don’t need a Vonage account to get started, all you need is the Vonage app, iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch with headsets and a Facebook account and friends who also have this app.

Here are some of the features of Vonage Mobile for Facebook iOS app:

The app works anywhere you have 3G or Wi-Fi coverage even overseas.

There are no international calling fees or data roaming charges when on Wi-Fi, and you don’t use your cellular minutes.

You can also chat with your Facebook friends.

Please note:
If you do not have an unlimited 3G data plan or Wi-Fi subscription, check with your mobile carrier, as charges may apply. When traveling abroad using the local 3G network, just be sure to have an international data roaming plan from your carrier to avoid excessive roaming charges.

still trying to figure out why these things wouldn't play on TriniTuner using Google Chrome.

Digitimes is reporting that Apple will announced new iPads with upgraded processors, a Verizon iPhone with a metal antenna back, and an Apple TV with no hard drive.

Their report indicates that the 9.7-inch iPad will adopt a new ARM Cortex-A9-based processor and 512MB RAM in the first quarter of 2011. They also expect Apple to launch a 7-inch iPad using the Cortex-A9 processor and an IPS panel with a resolution of 1024×768. iLounge recently predicted a 7-inch iPad as well.

In regards to the iPhone, Verizon is expected to announce a CDMA version of the device at CES 2011. The CDMA iPhone's back plate will be forged from metal materials and will feature an integrated antenna. TechCrunch recently gave credence to the rumor that Verizon would get the iPhone in January.

Finally, Apple will reportedly launch a new Apple TV using AMD's Fusion solution and will not include a hard drive. The new device will adopt a user interface similar to the iPhone with support for social networking websites, network multimedia and the App Store. Mass production of the device will start in December. Engadget has also predicted a new Apple TV without a hard drive.

Jailbreaking is stupidly simple. Now adding Flash to your iPhone is just about as easy. Benm.at, that site that used to add tethering to your iPhone, now has Frash in its repository. One you've jailbreakme'd,

1. Open Cydia > Manage > Sources
2. Edit source and add http://repo.benm.at
3. Search Frash and install it.

The US no-contract iPhone costs $599 (16GB) or $699 (32GB), but they still locked to AT&T. The rumors of Verizon getting the iPhone going on for a while now, but recently it looking like it might actually happen this time, but in any case we can't get a Verizon iPhone since it'll be CDMA unless they offer it with a SIM slot as well.
