Apple is only giving away free cases for the iPhone 4 until September 30th leading some to speculate that the company plans a more permanent attenuation fix by then.

When asked about this date by Bloomberg, Steve Jobs said its so we can reevaluate this in September, I have no idea what solutions may come up.

Given how simple the fix the seems to be (ie duct tape, nail polish, awrapforthat) we don't understand why Apple doesn't simply apply an electrically insulating organic hydrophobic layer atop the antenna.

Unfortunately, even with all the technically savvy reporters present, this question wasn't asked during the Q&A. There have been several online reports from users who believe their replacement iPhone already has this coating; however, the authenticity of these reports has yet to be verified.

Perhaps Apple prefers an internal fix than an external one that could wear off. For now all you can do is wait in line for your free bumper.

Sherif Hasim has figured out an easy way to activate iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G without needing the official iPhone carrier SIM.

Please note it doesn’t unlock your iPhone but it activates it. But it helps you to hactivate your iPhone without the need to hack your iPhone.

Sherif had also discovered an exploit in the baseband (05.12.01) that was bundled with iPhone OS 3.1.3 earlier in the year.

Activating your iPhone means giving it access to the Home screen by telling your iPhone that you are using one of the iPhone's official carriers. Activating your iPhone is done through iTunes in order to use it with an official iPhone carrier.

Hactivation is the process of activating your iPhone without using an official iPhone carrier SIM. Until now, you needed jailbreaking tools like PwnageTool to hactivate your iPhone. With Hasim’s method, you can hactivate your iPhone using phone book sim card, without actually going through the pains of hacking it.

Sherif Hasim has also posted a video to show you how it activate your iPhone without the official iPhone carrier SIM:

Sherif has provided some useful information about the phone book sim cards:

Use any phonebook sim card, they are there in radioshak, mobile phone shops or any mobile tech moles , any phone book simcard will do the trick, no need for programmable sims, all those phonebook sims used to save ur contacts and transfer them have a universal ICCIDs preprogrammed so they all work.

To all those asking, I use this one Phone book Test card from DITS - Cdma Gsm Forum Mygsmindia. Yet, I used three other types and all work the same.

Please note that the phonebook sim cards will work as is in iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G but you’ll need to convert it into a micro-SIM in case of iPhone 4.

So with this activation solution, iPhone users will be able to use this method to activate (or hacktivate) their iPhone and use tools like Spirit or Redsn0w to jailbreak (which can’t be used for hactivation) their iPhone and then use Ultrasn0w to unlock their iPhone.

------

The iPhone Dev-Team has announced that they will be adding the iPhone 4 unlock to ultrasn0w and are in the process of fine tuning the payload to make it as quick to load as possible.

The team is also reminding users that there are alot of scammers trying to capitalize off their work. For your safety make sure you only install and run official applications (for which we will post links to). Also the Dev-Team does their work for free. So if you are being asked for money, you are being scammed.

Hopefully it won't be too much longer before the comex jailbreak is available after which the unlock can be applied.

------

This almost goes without saying, but it's truly been a wild ride for the iPhone 4 over the last three weeks. While most of us will just happily open our hands to Stevie J's freebies, there's one question that's still bugging us: what's actually holding back the white iPhone 4? Sure, Apple's now promised us an "end of July" delivery for its latest iTemptation, but it has yet to specify what the manufacturing difficulty is. According to Chinese newspaper 21st Century Business Herald, the problem stems from a little-known Chinese factory by the name of Lens Technology, which is apparently responsible for transforming fine raw glass into the majority of iPhone glass panels out there (and contrary to previous reports, there's no mention of Corning here)

Lens Technology -- a rather bland name for a touchscreen glass manufacturer -- isn't exactly a household name to the average gadget consumer, but its list of clients tells a different story: Huawei, Lenovo, Motorola, Nokia, Samsung and more. Since its launch in July 1993, the company's set up several plants, including its latest site (circa December 2006) in Liuyang, Hunan that currently houses about 14,000 workers, which looks about right in the drawing above. While this is merely a fraction of Foxconn's 400,000 employees in Shenzhen, Lens' recent intake of some 7,000 "post-90's" (a Chinese saying for those born after 1990) workers still led to many disciplinary issues. But this wasn't the reason for the white iPhone 4 delay.

According to a project feasibility report published by Lens in 2006, its glass manufacturing process involves the following steps: developing the tooling, cutting the raw material (mainly sourced from Germany, Switzerland and Japan), fine-milling using CNC (computed numerically controlled) machines, sanding the edges, polishing, strengthening, cleaning, coating, screen printing, baking, anti-shatter treatment, assembling, and packaging. Yeah, pretty tedious. Now, a worker from Lens' quality control department has allegedly admitted that the company's screen-printing workshop may currently be dealing with some issues with the white iPhone 4 covers. Specifically, the factory's still working out the perfect combination of paint thickness and opacity -- the former to ensure the next sub-contractor has enough clearance for the digitizer overlay, and the latter for the absolute whiteness that Jony Ive and co. strive for. As we pointed out before, the prototype white covers we acquired appeared a touch darker than the iPhone 4 dock, so here's hoping that we'll see a better result when the official white phone comes out later this month.

Even if Apple does deliver the new batch of phones on the promised date, what about meeting the potential huge demand? According to industry sources, Lens' current production capacity only meets half of Apple's demand, thus becoming a major bottleneck for the entire iPhone 4 production pipeline. Of course, this could just be smack talk from envious competitors, and there's a small chance that other components might be affected as well, but the truth is the handset's currently in short supply -- after 3 million units since launch, Apple's online store was listing a 3-week shipping date for the black iPhone 4 at the time of writing this. Considering each CNC machine could apparently only cut out three iPhone 4 glass covers every hour, Lens will need to get its act together on the paint job and use all the machines it can get -- along with their skilled operators -- to keep Cupertino and its followers happy.

MuscleNerd has managed to unlock the iPhone 4 using a different method then the first.

Yay, got the 2nd of 3 ideas working. http://is.gd/dxTwO

This one is 340 bytes long....we'll compare overall loading time and stability now (and probably just save 3rd idea for later).

The white iPhone has reportedly been delayed due to challenges faced by Lens Technology, Apple's glass supplier, according to Engadget.

A worker from Lens' quality control department has allegedly admitted that the company's screen-printing workshop may currently be dealing with some issues with the white iPhone 4 covers. Specifically, the factory's still working out the perfect combination of paint thickness and opacity -- the former to ensure the next sub-contractor has enough clearance for the digitizer overlay, and the latter for the absolute whiteness that Jony Ive and co. strive for.

There have also been concerns about Lens' production capacity.

According to industry sources, Lens' current production capacity only meets half of Apple's demand, thus becoming a major bottleneck for the entire iPhone 4 production pipeline.

Apple has indicated the white iPhone should be available in limited quantities by the end of the month.

Apple may be preparing a new video format as it works towards becoming a major player in the video and television market, according to HardMac.

A transition towards better codec, dropping the efficient but CPU-consuming encoding codec H.264 for adopting Wavelet transform-type of codec which will allow even better compression rate while offering better efficiency. This type of compression was already used for the JPEG 2000 format. If we did not get confirmation yet, we can suspect that Apple will be using a format evolving or directly originating from Dirac. In addition, this format is now a standard (and open source format) known under the name of VC2, while the VC1 is a proprietary format from Microsoft found in BD media with H.264. The ultimate goal for Apple would be to promote this new format to support 4 K video (up to 4096x2160.

HardMac notes that most customers don't have a 4K compatible device; however, they believe Apple could enter the market with a high-end device (perhaps an Apple TV) that offers increasing definition.

Finally, CNN Fortune has published an article noting that Apple PR has managed to change the iPhone 4's 'spot' into a death grip that all phones suffer from.

At the Apple (AAPL) press event on Friday, somehow, right in front of a crowd of journalists (depicted at the end of the Taiwanese video below), the 'finger spot' that cut signal somehow turned into a more universal 'death grip' which also cuts signal but in just about every mobile device ever made.

It's been an infuriating process to watch. The iPhone suffers signal loss when you grip it tightly and block the antenna. Every phone does. This is not a problem worth mentioning.

The real issue is that if you use your finger to lightly bridge the two antennas that are separated at the bottom left of the iPhone 4, you will lose signal. This is what all the fuss should be about. As we've mentioned before - this is what is fixed by wrap, a bandaid, duck tape, or a case. Not the death grip. Somehow Apple managed to get through an entire press conference and Q&A period without addressing this issue and even turning it into a different one.

After the press conference, HTC, Nokia, Samsung and RIM all issued statements saying their phones weren't affected by the death grip.

Of course it affects your phones! When you squeeze a bunch of electronics and antennas together and surround them with a handful of signal-blocking water, you will lose signal. Like Steve Jobs said, "every device ever made has that same issue. That is just physics."

This played into Apple's plan perfectly. Everyone with a HTC, Nokia, Samsung, and Blackberry can easily pick up their devices and simulate the death grip.

But, the death grip was never the issue that made the iPhone 4 unique. The issue was with the 'finger spot.' The unique design of the external antennas makes it so that bridging them with flesh cuts the signal.

Fortune is in awe of Apple's PR capabilities and rightly so. Let's just hope Apple has secretly been applying an electrically insulating coating on the sides. Otherwise get yourself awrapforthat, an invisibleSHIELD, or a free bumper.

Starting with iOS 4.x, Apple began performing soft SHSH blob checks for older iDevices. This means that like the 3GS and the iPhone 4, if iTunes can’t get your blobs (due to signing window being closed), the iTunes restore will error out. Therefore, Cydia is now saving SHSH blobs for older devices too. Fortunately, since it is a soft SHSH blob check, it can easily be bypassed by using redsn0w or PwnageTool.

Those of you with jailbroken iPhone3G and ipt2G devices may now have noticed Cydia starting to save your SHSH blobs too, just like it does for iPhone3GS, ipt3G and later devices. That’s because starting with 4.0, Apple started putting a “soft” SHSH blob check in the firmware. The SHSH blob check is very real in the sense that if iTunes can’t get your blobs (because the Apple signing window has closed), the iTunes restore will error out. But it’s “soft” in the sense that those devices can always use redsn0w or PwnageTool to get past the error (the bootroms themselves for those devices don’t require blobs to be in the firmware files, unlike the newer bootroms).

So, Cydia is doing this to allow you to continue to use iTunes to restore to 4.x on iPhone3G and ipt2g outside of Apple’s signing window without needing to use redsn0w or PwnageTool to get around Apple’s annoying new restriction.

------

Apple reported all-time record revenue of $15.7 billion and net quarterly profit of $3.25 billion, or $3.51 per diluted share for its fiscal 2010 third quarter ended May 27, 2010 at Apple’s Q3 earning call.

During the Q&A session at the end of the earning call, not surprisingly Apple’s COO Tim Cook was asked some questions about iPhone 4’s antenna issues.

When he was asked whether the iPhone 4 antenna issues had impacted sales, he responded:

Let me be very clear: We are selling every unit we can make.

When he was asked to further clarify on the effect of antenna issues and if there were more complaints and returns, he reiterated:

My phone is ringing off the hook with people asking for more demand. So hard to say. Returns are less than for iPhone 3GS, and the ones for this specific issue are extremely small.

He also said that Apple doesn’t purposefully creates a shortage of their products for buzz:

“We do not purposefully create a shortage for buzz. I’m not sure where that comes from. Demand for iPhone 4 is absolutely stunning.”

When we had looked at smartphone antenna performance and their weak spots, we had mentioned that there are few benefits of having an external antenna (in case of iPhone 4) such as better signal quality (since its not in a casing), better battery life as Apple has been able to squeeze in a bigger battery, better aesthetics, more structural rigidity but it is at the expense of a more visible and sensitive “weak spot”. That is the reason Apple had to explain the death grip problem after iPhone 4 was launched and not with earlier iPhone models.

We felt that Apple had done the right thing by giving away free cases to all its iPhone 4 customers and offering a full refund to customers who are not happy getting a free case even though it had found that it is affecting a very small percentage of users based on the data it had collected.

But we have maintained that at the end of the day, customers will vote whether the trade-off is a deal breaker. According to Apple, demand for iPhone 4 is stunning and they’re selling every iPhone 4 unit they can make, which clearly shows that customers don’t think it’s a deal breaker.

Geohot may be preparing for a jailbreak release according to a tweet sent out by mikecohenn.

Before canceling his Twitter account Geohot said that all future jailbreak updates would be announced via his friend:

please follow my good friend @mikecohenn for all future jailbreak updates

Today mikecohenn tweeted:

What's a good time to make it ra1n?

Mikecohenn is indeed a friend of Geohot's as photos from his Twitter feed confirm.

Despite the message it doesn't seem to make sense to release a jailbreak when Comex's is around the corner.

Here is a little ray of sunshine for all you iOS 4 Skype users out there. Skype has just released a new version of their iPhone application, and it supports multitasking! The build is officially listed as 2.0.1 in the App Store, however the release notes read:

Version 2.1
Run Skype in the background with multitasking in iOS4. Receive Skype calls and IM while other apps are running or when your iPhone is locked. You can also continue your call while you switch to another application.

Sadly, there is no support for video chat with the iPhone 4’s front facing camera. Maybe next time.

T-Mobile USA is said to be in discussions with Apple to bring the iPhone to the wireless carrier this fall, ending AT&T's exclusive hold on the handset, according to a new rumor.

Citing a "highly placed source" at T-Mobile, Leander Kahney at Cult of Mac reported Wednesday that the wireless carrier and Apple are in "advanced talks." He placed an 80 percent likelihood that the iPhone will become available on T-Mobile's network this fall.

Apple became interested because of the influence of T-Mobile's parent company, Deutsche Telekom, the source indicated. T-Mobile is the smallest of the four carriers in the U.S., with 33.7 million customers.

As it currently is, the iPhone 4 is not compatible with T-Mobile's high-speed 3G network in the U.S., as the carrier uses the unique 1700MHz spectrum. The iPhone is compatible with UMTS/HSDPA 3G connections at the frequencies 850MHz, 1900MHz and 2100MHz. In other words, the handset would need a new internal radio to work with T-Mobile's network.

Apple and AT&T originally agreed to an exclusive deal through 2012, though it's believed the terms of that contract likely changed over the years.

The latest rumor comes as most expected the iPhone to first head to Verizon, as both The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg reported this year that Apple is working on a CDMA iPhone that would be compatible with Verizon's network. Unlike T-Mobile's network, which uses the same technology but operates on a different frequency, Verizon is a completely different technology, which would require a more drastic redesign of the iPhone

Apple has started processing refunds for the iPhone 4 bumper cases to online Apple Store orders. Existing back-ordered bumper cases have also been processed for refund. We expect the process will continue over the next few days. Apple is also expected to provide a method for in-store purchasers to also receive a refund but has provided no details yet.

Apple announced last week that they would be providing free bumper cases to all iPhone 4 customers and providing refunds for those who have already purchased them. The bumper cases help alleviate the signal loss issues experienced by some on the iPhone 4.

Apple on Friday announced that it still has had difficulty in manufacturing the white version of its iPhone 4, and the product will not be available until "later this year."

"White models of Apple's new iPhone 4 have continued to be more challenging to manufacture than we originally expected, and as a result they will not be available until later this year," the company said in a statement on Friday. "The availability of the more popular iPhone 4 black models is not affected."

The update is particularly interesting because it was just a week ago that Apple Chief Executive Steve Jobs publicly said that the white iPhone 4 remained on track to launch by the end of July. Jobs made his comments at last week's iPhone 4 press conference, at which it revealed it will give away free protective cases for every iPhone 4 purchase through Sept. 30.

Earlier this week, Apple's alleged difficulties in having glass panels for the iPhone 4 manufactured was detailed in a report that claimed one machine from a supplier can only make three panels per hour. A worker with Chinese manufacturer Lens Technology reportedly said that the company is still trying to work out the right balance of paint thickness and opacity with the white iPhone 4.

It was claimed that the manufacturer has had difficulty in ensuring the panel allows enough space for the digitizer overlay while also providing the level of white that Apple expects the glass to have.

Apple’s iPhone 4 Case Program, there’s an app for that

We’re not kidding, there is actually an app for that. Apple’s iPhone 4 Case Program page is now live. Those who already purchased an iPhone 4 and Apple bumper can hit up the new site to check the status of their rebate, users waiting for their free case can “Download the iPhone 4 Case Program app from the App Store” and select a case at no charge. Have a look for yourself.

Image

If you're one of those wise guys who purchased an iPhone 4 right away just to sell it, you can forget about getting a free case for the handset you no longer own. Apple has arranged this so that only one case can be ordered per iPhone 4, so even if you ordered two under your account name, you'll need two phones to place both of those orders.

------

With all the fuss over the iPhone 4 antenna it’s forgivable for overlooking one of the more interesting new features: the built-in gyroscope.

Image
An update to N.O.V.A. added a gyroscopic control mode for iPhone 4 users.

This enables the iPhone to detect movement (vertical and horizontal rotation) and react accordingly. And some iPhone developers are already making interesting apps with the gyroscope.

The compass found in the iPhone 3GS was capable of providing similar functionality, but the gyroscope is much more accurate (although it lacks precision relating to magnetic north).

We’ve spotted two apps, both games, that make good use of the gyroscope. Both of them (perhaps understandably given the “where are you pointing” nature of a gyroscope) are shooting games.

Image
Eliminate: Gun Range

Eliminate: Gun Range places you behind the trigger of a variety of real-world guns, and relies solely on the gyroscope for control. Point the iPhone to aim the gun and press the screen to shoot the targets.

An update to N.O.V.A uses a more subtle integration of the gyroscope. N.O.V.A is a traditional first-person shooting game that uses on screen controls to replicate dual-sticks (one for movement the other for looking). This control system is still in place, but gyroscopic control augments it. So aim with your fingers and subtly with the screen. From what we’ve seen so far it’s a more instinctive means of control.

------

Skype has announced that they no longer plan to charge customers a monthly fee for calling over 3G.

At Skype, we believe that better call quality and better availability (which is achieved with an app capable of multitasking and/or making calls over 3G) lead to increased call frequency and longer calls. We also believe that the mobile world is in a period of significant change, for example, with some operators starting to move to tiered pricing models.

In light of that, we no longer have plans to charge a supplement to make calls over 3G. We’re delighted to make it easier for you to talk for even longer and do even more together using Skype.

Alongside the release of Skype 2.0 for iPhone in May the company attempted to inform customers that "Skype-to-Skype calls on 3G are free until at least end of August 2010, after which there will be a small monthly fee (operator charges for data will still apply)." This was met with a lot of criticism and caused the company to delay charges until the end of 2010. Thankfully, they've now dropped these plans entirely.

Can't make a call on your iPhone 4? Samsung will help! Samsung? Yes, Samsung UK's official Twitter account (@samsungukmobile) heard the complaints about the iPhone 4 and is giving away free, unlocked Samsung Galaxy S Android phones to act as replacements.

There's no need to return your iPhone 4 to them, no forms to fill out, Samsung just reached out to a few folks over twitter and asked for their contact details and a free Galaxy S was shipped to them.

Samsung UK wrote:Recently there has been a real increase in online activity from consumers dissatisfied with some of our competitors' products. We decided to contact a cross section of individuals to offer them a free Samsung Galaxy S as a replacement, as we're confident that once people have the phone in their hands, they'll see how impressive it is for themselves.

Briefly scanning Samsung's Twitter account, it looks like they've given away more than a handful of Galaxy S units as iPhone replacements already. Sure beats a free case.
[Wired UK via Android Central]

Man having an iPhone 4 opens up a portal to free stuff!

I like to think as has been reported that they may do some sort of silent recall where they will coat them in the non-insulative material.

in other news:

If you want a little speed increase on your 3G and probably 3GS with iOS 4, you can disable Spotlight Search.

Via @comex's tweet, from a modmyi forum post, users saw an increase in speed.

I myself tried it in dad's 3G. I left Contacts and Applications ticked and the rest unticked and i DID see a slight increase. The slide to unlock button no longer lags as before.

I just unticked and rebooted.

I somewhat had that problem myself. Except it only happened with texts & they came days later. It went away on its own eventually.

The AP is reporting that a new federal ruling from the Library of Congress has sided with consumers, and the before sort-of-grey-area is now pretty clear — legally, you can unlock (and in Apple’s case, jailbreak) your device.

Associated Press wrote:Owners of the iPhone will be able to break electronic locks on their devices in order to download applications that have not been approved by Apple. The government is making that legal under new rules announced Monday.
The decision to allow the practice commonly known as “jailbreaking” is one of a handful of new exemptions from a federal law that prohibits the circumvention of technical measures that control access to copyrighted works. Every three years, the Library of Congress authorizes such exemptions to ensure that existing law does not prevent non-infringing use of copyrighted material.
Another exemption will allow owners of used cell phones to break access controls on their phones in order to switch wireless carriers.

This is a pretty big thing in the tech world and has ramifications across many different platforms and devices, not just Apple’s iPhone.

Sure, we've been hearing whispers that Apple's got a new Mac Pros and some updated iMacs waiting in the wings, but our friend John Gruber at Daring Fireball seems just a mite more confident about things -- in a post trumpeting the return of his podcast The Talk Show, John coyly says tomorrow "might hypothetically" bring new Mac Pros, speedbumped iMacs (we'd guess the Core i3 will make its OS X debut), and a new 27-inch 16:9 Cinema Display will all arrive tomorrow. John also says the Magic Trackpad might also arrive tomorrow, but he's calling that one a "double-hypothetical," so who knows -- we'd think anything more serious than hardware refreshes would warrant a Jobs introduction, but hey, maybe Steve's all talked out for the month.

Canadians looking to score an unlocked iPhone on Friday may have to pay dearly for the carrier-free convenience being offered by Apple retail stores. According to CBC news, pricing for the unlocked version of the iPhone 4 will start at $659 — for the lower capacity 16 GB version — and climb up to $779 for the 32 GB version. If you can’t stomach the high cost of SIM-free ownership, you could always sell your soul and sign a contract with Bell, Telus, or Rogers when the handset makes its debut on July 30th.

------

Earlier today the EFF announced that essentially that jailbreaking & unlocking iPhones is legal. Of course the pioneers of this had to comment...

iPhone Dev Team wrote:Image

Fantastic news today from the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF). After a lot of hard work and mountains of paperwork, jailbreaking your iPhone is now explicitly a permitted fair use under the DMCA!

The first of EFF’s three successful requests clarifies the legality of cell phone “jailbreaking” — software modifications that liberate iPhones and other handsets to run applications from sources other than those approved by the phone maker. More than a million iPhone owners are said to have “jailbroken” their handsets in order to change wireless providers or use applications obtained from sources other than Apple’s own iTunes “App Store,” and many more have expressed a desire to do so. But the threat of DMCA liability had previously endangered these customers and alternate applications stores.

In its reasoning in favor of EFF’s jailbreaking exemption, the Copyright Office rejected Apple’s claim that copyright law prevents people from installing unapproved programs on iPhones: “When one jailbreaks a smartphone in order to make the operating system on that phone interoperable with an independently created application that has not been approved by the maker of the smartphone or the maker of its operating system, the modifications that are made purely for the purpose of such interoperability are fair uses.”

The EFF also successfully renewed the existing DMCA exception for carrier unlocking. More on the ruling by the Library of Congress is here and here (and many other places, since this is huge news!). The full ruling is here, and EFF’s history with this case is here (EFF’s servers are understandably getting hammered today!).

This doesn’t mean that Apple will stop their technical attempts to thwart jailbreaking, but it does mean that iPhone jailbreaks and unlocks are now unambiguously legal under the DMCA.

Great job, EFF!

The Apple Battery Charger is an efficient compact device optimized for Apple-supplied batteries; however, it also works with AA NiMH batteries from other companies.

The charger automatically reduces its power intake once your batteries are fully charged. It comes with six NiMH batteries — two for your keyboard, two for your mouse or trackpad, and two for charging. These high-performance batteries have up to a 10-year lifespan, they also hold a charge for an 'incredibly long time'.

The Apple Battery Charger has the lowest “vampire draw” of any similar charger on the market. That’s the energy that most chargers continue to draw even after their batteries are done charging. Unlike other chargers, the Apple Battery Charger senses when a battery charge cycle is complete and automatically reduces the amount of power it uses to 30 milliwatts — more than 10 times better than the industry average.

The charger is available to purchase from Apple for $29.

Apple has issued an official response to the ruling handed down by the Library of Congress on the matter of jailbreaking the iPhone. Today after much deliberation a final decision was announced by the governing body on issues of copyright infringement. The ruling goes as follows; an exception has been made to the DMCA that now allows you to legally jailbreak your iPhone in order to install unapproved applications and to unlock the device so the phone can be used with another service carrier.

CultofMac received a brief statement on the record from an Apple spokeswoman. Due to the legal nature of the issue she was unable to go into much detail:

Apple Inc wrote:“Apple’s goal has always been to insure that our customers have a great experience with their iPhone and we know that jailbreaking can severely degrade the experience. As we’ve said before, the vast majority of customers do not jailbreak their iPhones as this can violate the warranty and can cause the iPhone to become unstable and not work reliably.”

Apple has released beta 2 of their upcoming iOS 4.1.

Image

------

Photo Booth, the application for snapping distorted and stylized shots using your Mac's web cam, was improbably but undeniably a lot of fun. Camera Sutra brings that same real-time zaniness to your iPhone 4's front facing camera

The app takes advantage of one of iOS4's multitudinous new APIs for live image previewing, giving you a chance to see how you and your friends' faces look stretched, twirled, dented, infrareded out, and more—there are 13 effects in total—and then snap a picture of it to your camera roll.

The interface well-designed and the app works beautifully with the iPhone 4's front-facing camera, though it supports the 3G's rear camera, too. If you even occasionally are inclined to silliness, it's well worth $2.

Guys, you all ever had an issue that the appstore on your iPhone just stops allowing you to download apps. I tap Free and when Install pops up, it returns to free and no prompt is given. I tried logging out and it does nothing. It just keeps loading...

My account works on itunes and on the 3G just not the 2G...
