GPRS trouble

Postby brickman » July 11th, 2010, 10:30 am

Bmobile tuners, anyone getting serious probs with mobile net since friday eveing?Getting no connection or pages loading incredibly slow then timing out, comes back to normal for few hours then gives trouble again.Called them today but the csr seems lost,so just wondering if its just me.Feedback would be appreciated.

GPRS will be slow

are you getting an EDGE signal?
have you tried another device?

Getting edge but speeds incredibly slow, usually pages load in 10-15 seconds but now it takes about 45 mins to load a web page if it doesnt time out.Posting this from my digi, free net ftw.Changed phones & bands from 850 mhz to 1900 mhz but same prob.My speeds have always been fast but this is like 10 times slower than their slowest speed.

On the phone now with a csr who confirmed there is a problem with the GPRS since friday & they are working on it but isn't sure when it will be fixed. So i guess its wait & see, would suggest others with the problem call to keep them aware of the problem.

Well its back up for GPRS/EDGE users since 2 p.m yesterday & speed is back to normal.Looks like that blackout facked up their internet service for everyone, lots of complaints on tstt's forum.Best thing for those still having trouble is to check posts there & continue to call & complain.

Nope not the same.EDGE is faster than GPRS,check wiki for more details.Thats why i was telling people who have windows phones to hack it to run on the 850mhz band EDGE instead of the 1900mhz band GPRS since most phones, even if they are edge enabled automatically run on the 1900mhz band.Your speed will improve by at least a factor of 5.I run circles around my laptop/pc friends with it sometimes ;-)

What Browser you using? I generally use Opera Mini 5 as its the fastest mobile browser and Opera Mobile 10 for secure browsing. There are random times though when I experience what you're referring to in Opera and I get through fine in IE. You can check to see if the browser is your problem

To have a fast running/downloading opera mobile 10,simplyturn off the turbo(learned this from their forum)& it works for me.You can't change it in symbian phones easily cause its something you change in the programming itself.I'll search around to see if there is a band select app for symbian but i doubt it,highly recommend you invest in a windows mobile smartphone though.I've had many different kinds & i find them the best & easiest to customize/configure.

Brickman-----I have an Edge Modem that I sometimes use.....When I connect via edge the signal is poor and the internet is very slow.....

Now if I use the edge modem and connect via GPRS the signal is excellent and the Internet runs well....

Whats my situation with this? Id appreciate your advice

Im curious about this myself.Have a friend getting one & was wondering about this too, some edge modems come with software & some are plug in & go.I have done some light reading but i have found nothing like a 'band select' option for them,it is possible there is something on the pc/latop that can be changed/installed.Unfortunatly my expertise is mostly on phones so im not much help in the pc/laptop aspect. If you have a windows phone however & wish to use that as a modem instead,i can assist.
P.S i have attached my average speed in downloading a 1mb file, you can compare to your gprs speed.

Speed is the same no matter what i use the sim on,will let them reset the service & even change the sim if its still the same.Time to upgrade anyway, hope that rumor about the 2 phone companies coming this year is true.
