North Korea rejects torpedo findings, threatens war

Postby SUPAstarr » June 15th, 2010, 2:26 pm

http://news.blogs.cnn.com/2010/06/15/no ... atens-war/

North Korea rejected Tuesday international findings that it sank a South Korean ship, warning at the United Nations that the dispute could lead to war.

"A war may break out any time," Ambassador Sin Son Ho said, accusing South Korea of "fabricating" the results of the investigation into the sinking of the Cheonan.

The loss of the ship and 46 sailors in March raised tensions on the Korean peninsula.

North and South Korea presented their cases to the U.N. Monday, and South Korea then urged the Security Council to take "timely and appropriate measures."

North Korea's envoy responded harshly Tuesday.

"If the Security Council releases any documents against us, condemning or pressuring us... then myself as diplomat, I can do nothing... the follow-up measures will be carried out by our military forces," he said.

United Nations Security Council President Claude Heller said Monday that the U.N. body is "gravely concerned" about the latest tensions.

Heller said the council is concerned over the potential "impact on peace and stability on the Korean peninsula" as a result of the March 26 sinking of the Cheonan in disputed waters.

"We presented and explained to (the council) the evidence that the Cheonan was sunk by a torpedo, which was made in North Korea, and launching was also done by a North Korean ... submarine," said Yoon Duk-yong, a science and physics professor serving as a civilian expert on the South Korean panel.

Yoon said the findings were based on evidence recovered after the sinking, including an intact piece of the torpedo with propellers, steering plates and a motor.

"We hope that on the basis of these findings," he said, "the Security Council will take timely and appropriate measures against the provocation of North Korea against the naval ship of the Republic of Korea."

But North Korea's ambassador disputed the international findings, comparing them to "some kind of fiction in Aesop's Fables.

"The 'investigation result' is a complete fabrication from A to Z," he said.

The council is calling on both sides "to refrain from any act that could escalate tensions in the region," Heller said.

The two-hour meeting was held behind closed doors Monday afternoon and was also attended by United States, Australian, British, Swedish and Canadian scientific experts who had participated in the investigation.

The Japanese ambassador to the U.N. made brief remarks following the two nations' presentations, saying "there is no other explanation" than that the South Korean ship was sunk by a North Korean torpedo.

"I think the council should react in a decisive manner, but at the same time try to avoid any act which may provoke" a retaliatory attack, Ambassador Yukio Takasu said.

North Korea has repeatedly denied any responsibility in the sinking.

Heller said a decision has not yet been made on how to respond to the incident.

"The Security Council will continue its consultations," he said.

Rosetta Stone is an integral software in today's society as you can tell. I think that war is never the answer and I believe that everyone should be left alone. We're only on this Earth for a limited time, we should lift our brothers up, not keep them down. Peace, Love and Prosperity to all.

Come on China do your thing..

North Korea threatens 'new' nuclear deterrent

North Korea is threatening to introduce a new nuclear deterrent because of US hostility, amid tensions over a sunken South Korean warship.

It also accused the US of taking weapons into Panmunjom, the truce village in the demilitarised zone.

The statements came hours after US President Barack Obama urged his Chinese counterpart to take a stronger stance on the warship issue.

Investigators say North Korea sank the warship with a torpedo on 26 March.

Forty-six sailors died when the South Korean ship, the Cheonan, split in two and went down near the disputed inter-Korean maritime border.

South Korea is seeking a UN Security Council response over the incident, for which North Korea denies all responsibility.
New bomb?

The North Korean statement, carried by official news agency KCNA, did not give any details of how the communist country could bolster its nuclear capability.

"The recent disturbing development on the Korean peninsula underscores the need for (North Korea) to bolster its nuclear deterrent in a newly developed way to cope with the US persistent hostile policy toward (the North) and military threat toward it," it quoted the foreign ministry as saying.
File image of North Korean soldier in Panmunjom Both North and South Korean soldiers are present at Panmunjom

North Korea has carried out two nuclear tests. It is thought to have both plutonium and uranium-based weapons programmes.

The BBC's John Sudworth, in Seoul, says the comments could also be meant as a hint that it is trying to build a hydrogen bomb, a massively more powerful weapon than the type it is already known to possess.

North Korea announced in May that it had successfully conducted a nuclear fusion reaction, the type used in a hydrogen bomb.

But that kind of breakthrough would require a major technological leap and many experts doubt whether North Korea has the facilities or the resources, our correspondent says.

In a second statement on Monday, North Korea accused the US of bringing weapons into Panmunjom, the truce village that lies in the demilitarised zone, on 26 June.

"Strong military counter-measures" would be taken if the weapons were not removed, the statement said.

US troops said that they were checking the report.

The two North Korean statements came as Mr Obama held what he called blunt talks with Chinese President Hu Jintao on the warship issue.

China's stance is key to any unified Security Council response, because it holds a veto.

Beijing has in the past opposed strong measures against Pyongyang because it fears the collapse of its impoverished neighbour.

Mr Obama said that while he understood China's position, there was "a difference between restraint and wilful blindness to consistent problems".

I think communism is the way to go.
Communism is a social structure in which classes are abolished and property is commonly controlled.Communism attempts to offer an alternative to the problems with the capitalist market economy and the legacy of imperialism and nationalism. Communism is desirable because it entails the full realization of human freedom.

LOL allyuh talking like ending North Korea is a walk in the park. These guys have a lot of nuclear power and their army ain't no joke.

The only country right now who can step in and resolve this matter is China.

It amazes me now much the North hates the South. To think they are the SAME people.

There is a man that saved the world his name is Stanislav Yevgrafovich Petrov he was a lieutenant colonel in the Soviet Air Defence Forces.

He literally saved the world back in 1983 when Soviet Computers sounded a false alarm stating America had lunched a nuclear attack on Moscow. It was his call and due to instincts he choose not to follow the computer instructions and lunch an all out nuclear attack on America.

Albert Einstein once said with nuclear weapons its not a question if nuclear war will happen its a question of when it will happen. So even though Russia fell from the Largest superpower down to nothing they still have the military power to destroy the US and rest of the world if they wanted.

Like sting said back in the late 80's when USA and Soviet Russia was about to go to war he made a great song where he said "We share the same biology, regardless of ideology"

Just a couple days ago I was thinking about the name ICBM

ICBM stands for Inter Continental Ballistic Missile. So I reasoned, that Inter continental was fairly reasonable and easy to interpret. It can go from one continent to another..ok fine.
Missile is pretty straight forward also. It flies through the air, delivers an explosive payload and goes BOOM. So its a missile, I get that too.

What I don't get is the Ballistic part. They really pronounce it BULL Is Thick!! Now the name ICM could have been used without the B and it would not have changed the meaning of anything, its a missile that goes from one continent to another. But they stick Ballistic in the middle to emphasize that its gonna firetruck Yah HARD !! Its a Bull Is Thick Mutha FCUKER and its gonna go BOOM and Fcuk you up !! Talk about intimidation.

There are enough nuclear weapons to end life on earth. If you exploded all of them the remaining humans will have to deal with nuclear fallout dispersed by atmospheric winds and gradually settling on the Earth's surface after weeks, months, and even years as worldwide fallout.
