S14-Sr20DET No Cold start!!

Postby .:PROZAC:.. » April 22nd, 2010, 12:42 pm

27- April :(

I took off the IACV and cleaned it. From talking with Anil I understand it's a solenoid that has a constant 12v to the batter and gets a PCM signal from the ECU which is a varying ground to open and close it as needed.

It's getting a constant 12 and on startup a full ground. I used to terminals and activated the solenoids to make sure it's moving.
Still no cold start!!

Jah. even with the car running I pull out the plug and there is no change in the idle.
I activate the solenoid manually and still nothing.. what gives?

From earlier:--------------------------------------------
I bought the car with stock Sr20 already swapped and just working through the plethora of issues.

Where I'm now at is the car needs about 3 turns to fire up- first two with just to ignition to get the pump relay and 3 separate tumbles it comes alive. - This shouldn't be.

My idle is closer to 900 though and it seems to drop about 1-150 rpm every now and then, very slight amount not a surge and drop issue.
If I give it gas not even into boost and let it go without feathering it back down it will die.

I've been trying to come up with a list of things to check myself as a novice.
* charging on the alternator (i recently replaced it myself, maybe the belts aren't tensioned right)
* check the maf plug and injector plugs
* pull and inspect plugs for gap and fouling ( can anyone suggest a replacment for stock boost SR?)
* check vacuum leaks
* fuel pressure

any ideas guys?

so is the normal position open or closed when the car is off?
It sounds to me like it should be open for the cold start and slowly close as operating temperature achieved?

Darn it, sorry I missed that call. The people I've asked are secretive or jsut don't like me lol.

I came up with a wiring guide sorta for the Dash connector re-pinned below.
I now have to look at the plug and see how they did.

Well during lunch I was reading through the UK english S14 turbo FSM. Really makes for some interesting glances in the lunch lounge.

So it turns out that the cold start is controlled (primarily but not alone) to something called the FIC- Fast Idle Cam.
So I have the inspection procedures to follow when I get home. I'm praying it's this else I'm going to be tearing through the N63 plug to see what's connected where.

Cold start resolved by adjusting the FIC.
Adjsut the 8 nut so that when the car is cold it is on the long mark and when hot it is on the short mark.

Here is where we are:
Anil that was a cool tip to check if I was getting any pnches and grounds, sadly no bad ground.
So I think I'm checking 2 separate issues. The idle has gotten bad bad and it still hard starts.

For hard start I'm checking this, the start signal wire. When you try to start you car it get s a 12 volt signal and tells all four injectors to fire simultaneously

And for the idle, it looks like either my ECU is not sending the 5 volt and/or the TPS is screwed as the resistance is not the .7ohm and the closed is only.01V

For the hard start

Car Fixed!!!
Thanks for all the help guys.
Issues and solutions
Cold start: Fast Idle cam.
TPS voltages - pinched wire in harness, rerounted new.
IACV- improperly getting the power and ground- again wiring.

Lessons learnt were very valuable, just to tidy up the interior and button everything up.
Pay for your wiring and get it done right without shortcuts and Gremlins.
Case closed.
