Help: ABS Light on in NZE Corolla

Tuners,

I was driving up the highway on Saturday evening, when, all of a sudden, my ABS light came on. I drive a 2002 Toyota Corolla. I checked the mechanic - no cables were loose or anything. My next step is to get my car scanned to diagnose the problem.

Has anyone ever experienced this? What do you all recommend?

a guy told me that his abs light comes on when the brake light bulb blows in his fielder. you can check that also.

or u could the sensors and see if they clean.

^^ its funny caus with no diagnostic or any repairs done, the light came off

My padna's nze ABS was damaged and the light just remains on.

In other words, the ABS stopped engaging and he never bothered to repair it since he already has 4 wheel disc brakes.

yes, the ABS stopped engaging and i do have 4 wheel disc brakes, however, the car seems somewhat unstable when u slam on the brakes without the ABS engaging. thanks for the advice, but i like all things working in my vehicle.

gundelero a simple test - reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery for approximately 1 minute. After reconnecting start the car and see if the problem reoccurs - if it comes up immediately the problem is probably the ABS controller, fuse, broken wire etc. If not - drive the car about for a block or so - if it now comes up it is probably a speed sensor problem. Speed sensor errors can also be caused by low tire pressure causing one wheel to spin faster so double check your pressures. Are all tyres the same size? In the end - check you mechanic all the same.

PS - I also experienced a similar problem when my Rott went under my car ate the speed sensor wire .... hope this info helps

Best advice - had this same problem with my NZE and this was cleared when i disconnected the battery and reset...

disconnecting the battery did not reset the system and the light came back on as soon as i started the car.

so i went to my mechanic this morning....

we scanned the car and realized the problem was on the right front wheel; removed the wheel to find that the ABS cable was cut. We changed the cable, rescanned, cleared the error codes, test drove, and its working again.

I don't see the logic here.

sensors could be dirty. Happened to me. My cv boot rubber was burst and alot of grease got onto the abs sensor. (like a thick mud layer) Cleaned it off and reset the ecu and it works.

It could also be a blown abs fuse.

So check them all...sensor, fuse through diagnostics.

so if i spray paint my callipers? guess that would cause the abs light to turn on?

where exactly is the sensor located?

cld be a dirty sensor if you have a burst of damaged cv boot rubber

Hey Good day, With regards to the sensor problem u were having I was wondering if you can give me some advice. My car got in an accident and apparently whilst repairs were being done the rear right sensor cable was damaged and this was detected via a diagnostic scan. So I thn took it to the auto electrician to have the cable sodered back but t hat did help. The mechanic i s explaining that this is a fine cable and hence the reason y I will have to change the entire sensor so I was wondering how you changed your cable. Can u advise me please. Thx
