Postby glennj » March 17th, 2010, 6:00 am

have u ever noticed that most sign makers and vinyl printers etc, make some really stupid and easily recognisable mistakes in their work?

i mean i see cars with names like-civilien,spattern,riddding dirty etc
restuarant in curepe junction-chineses food
etc
i am sure that a spell check common sense.

"recognisable" is acceptable tho...we're supposed to be using the Queen's English...

But point well taken about the general disregard for (and ignorance of) BASIC grammar...in this dotish-arse cuntry? hell, it's frickin youbickwituss...

Mediocrity is part and parcel of life in Trinidad....it's expected and condoned.....don't ever try to excel.....that's frowned upon by society and you immediately become a sorf man if you educated and try to move up in life.Worse yet if you try to speak properly....you instantly a homo.

speaking properly is not trying to excel

as an english speaking nation we should be able to communicate using standard english

Firstly, there isn't any spell check feature in the design programs that produce the vinyl cuts for said signs.

Secondly, you complaining about the grammar used in sign production? Have you listened to some of the younger presenters on our radio stations?

It is despicable to hear them speak, far less for when they are reading the news. I for one use colloquial language commonly, but when a news presenter say, "The charges were laid indick-tably" it makes me wonder about our future as a developing country.

Oh well.

The sign makers themselves, the ones who are actually stenciling the letters to form words, are usually unskilled labourers who have money, domestice, work related problems at the forefront of their minds, and therefore cant /wont pay tooo much attention to the tasks at hand. they just see the first and last letters of words and understand them to be what it appears to be at first glance.

I once commissioned a sign painter in my dept to make 4 "reserved parking only" signs.
two days later i saw vehicles that weren't supposed to be in the spots after the signs were mounted, all parked facing forward, due to the "Reversed parking only " signs that were installed.

Do the math
