Water taxi operator shot dead over gold chain

Postby Greypatch » February 14th, 2010, 1:34 pm

A water taxi operator who put up a fight with a man who attempted to snatch his gold chain was shot dead in full view of his wife and two female friends outside a Curepe pub at about 11.30 pm on Friday.

http://www.newsday.co.tt/news/0,115810.html

Nigel Robinson of Dyette Estate, Cunupia was standing outside Kin Shasha Bar car park at Southern Main Road, Curepe in company with his wife Dawn Matrine, and two friends when they were confronted by two men. One of the men grabbed a thick gold chain from the neck of Robinson and a struggle ensued. The second bandit fired a shot striking Robinson in the stomach. As he slumped to the ground Robinson’s wife attacked the gunman with a bottle and was shot in the right shoulder. The gunmen fled the scene and the two frantic friends of the couple alerted persons at the Kin Shasha pub who called the St Joseph police.

Robinson and his wife were rushed to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex where Robinson was pronounced dead on arrival and his wife was treated and warded in critical condition. Police combed the entire area in search of the killers but they were not found.

The killing and shooting brought an immediate end to a lime at the popular club and patrons expressed disbelief that such an act would take place in full view of eyewitnesses. They called on the police to find the killers in the interest of justice.

When Sunday Newsday visited the scene of the shooting yesterday several eyewitnesses said that the killers were monitoring persons entering and leaving the pub on Friday night and they believe that Robinson was targeted because of the gold chain around his neck.

Yesterday Acting Police Commissioner James Philbert reminded members of the public that they should desist from wearing jewelry when venturing out to pubs and public places late at nights especially during the Carnival period. He said that persons with evil intent are targeting innocent members of the public and he reiterated that desisting from wearing jewelry and walking around with large sums of money will prevent members of the public from being targeted. He assured that the police will maintain a high visibility in all areas of the country during the Carnival period and he urged citizens to call police if they notice any suspicious persons lurking around in their communities.

I agree with the sentiment for home defense, but not for carying around in public. If you bussing some lead in a bandit MC, police might shoot at you instead.

i hope the woman recovers quickly.
i hope the murderers are caught quickly.
i hope they are sentenced to hang.

i hope we get some pictures of the murderers and some profile info on them.

this is a really sad day. imagine certain segments of our population is allowed to breed bandits, and foster them into murderers, all because we refuse to accept the truth, we refuse to keep statistics , and we much prefer to hide behind masks of lies.
notihng is done to eradicate this problem, because we are only interested in being politically correct, and love mindless voting around election time.
trinidad is the only country where the prime ministers and murderers dine at the finest hotels together. to discuss ways forward.

trinidad is the best, you have to love it.

mainly one kind. there are many poor rural villages in trinidad, that do not engage in criminal activity. andthey do not breed bandits like rabbits.
