WTK NZE Tranny Fluid

Postby lyndondz » February 4th, 2010, 1:33 pm

Hey tuners,

For the Mrs. car.... a 2004 local NZE.

Need to know how many quarts of transmission fluid necessary.

and also Which brand of Tramsmission fluid you would recommend.

Also is the tranny CVT or non-CVT?

A lotta questions, but i aint own an automatic vehicle in years so i'm unsure.

thanx in advance

These transmission holds 7.2 qts of oil. They are non-cvt transmissions. The recommended oil is Toyota T-IV oil. There are other oils that are compatable like Amsoil Universal ATF which I highly recommend, Amalie Synthetic ATF, Royal Purple Synthetic ATF and Castrol Multi Import. Under normal driving conditions, the oil shoul be replaced every four years or 80,000 km whichever comes first.

It actually say, No need to change under normal driving conditions. Normal drivng conditions applies to vehicles driven under 100km/h, does no towing and climbs excessive hills. The manual says to change every four years or 80,000 km for normal driving and two years or 40 000km for severe condition. Severe conditons refers to cars driving over 100km/h, does frequent towing and climbing hills.
Tests have actually shown that Toyota T-IV oil is crap and do not last as longs as Toyota claims. Google it and see for yourself. Infact if Toyota T IV is used, it is recommended that it be replaced every year or 20,000 km. That is why I recommend that Amsoil Universal ATF, since it can actually last the four years or 80,000 km. But you are free to leave it and never change it if you so desire.

would one recommend using the Amsoil Universal ATF fluid and installing a Universal Transmission Cooler like the ones that are advertised on these forums?

Especially on a NZE with about 200,000 kms on the odo

Sorry to bump an old thread but I too have also been left with the task of mAintaining the wife's Nze. I want to do a drain And fefill as opposed to a flush on the ATX. Does anyone know how much fluid is necessary for this.

When i bought my NZE i found that the tranny fluid looked darkish red. So I assumed it was either changed & used NP tranny fluid or the oil needed changing. This was at 54,00 km. My dip stick does not have that label that says do not change under normal driving conditions. I suspect the owner b4 must have change the tranny, not sure, but I do see blue markings on the tranny.
I used the Toyota Type IV tranny oil. Paid $60 a quart by Dollar Savers. I went by a guy who had the machine to connect to the tranny. The machine would be filled with the new oil and when the car is started the machine will suck out the old oil and run clean oil thru as a filter and the fill up the tranny. However, the machine used 12 quarts to do this ($660 in oil) and the machine cost is $350. Up till now my oil is still pink not dark red as b4 (84000 km). However a friend did his tranny flush at Automotive components and they used the same machine with 7 quarts and charge him $200.

Drain and refill takes 2.5 quarts.
Most people overfill by putting in 4 quarts.
I drain and fill transmission fluid every time I change engine oil.

Dry fill (aka flush) for the 1NZ-FE transmission is about 8.6 quarts.
Therefore, if using the fluid exchanger, 9 quarts should be optimal.
