Are RCA's Directional ??

ok i have a question for ull.

are rca's directional ??

if the answer is yes then what will happen if u hook them up in the opposite direction?

no they not

electricity will not flow over a piece of cunductive material one way without a blocking diode of some sort ....

and since the rca are made of copper its not directional

well then y is it that when hooked up in the direction stated on the rca sheild i dont get any noise but when hooked up opposing the direction on the rca sheild i am getting all kinds of pops and cracking sounds introduced into the system??

Some higher end cables are directional. I've never used them, but in one direction they are supposed to prevent noise.
I know some of those cables use a battery to apply some kind of extra shield on the RCA. In the wrong direction I guess that could introduce noise.
Does your cable have a battery in it?

they are directional with respect to shielding.

shielding rraps opposite to the winding, if it's in reverse it defeats the purpose of the shield.

silent_riot, but in the event a cable uses a battery won't reversing the polarity of the battery fix this problem?

And in any event, the signal in an RCA cable is an AC so I can't really see how the shield works in one direction only. Anyone care to explain in more depth?
riadb, if the cable is connected the wrong way won't the shield & winding still be wrapped the same way relative to each other?

check a set of directed twist connects and see if u get a manual.

1m RCA = $6500 and each additional meter = $5400

but the costs far far outstrip the benefits. just not practical, cause i mean, i don't think that any of the cars at iasca use them.

may just be used for extremely high end home systems where ppl WILL hear a difference rather that admit they f'd up.

but then again, if you buying these wires u don't really care about cost

Unless you are a picky bastard like me, trust me I wouldnt invest in them :wink:
