i agree with CBH... everybody vex about crime... but the same people who complain and blaming the government driving on the shoulder, dodging taxes, building illegally, etc.

it was said just this week that only a small percentage of the properties occupied in Trinidad are registered for tax purposes... and allyuh blaming the government for raising taxes... blame allyuh self for not paying and not conforming to the rules... everybody wants their garbage collected, their streets lighted, their road paved, their drains cleaned, the neighborhood patrolled... but they all want it for free

I am a law abiding citizen... who do I blame?

Who is responsible for setting the direction the country is supposed to go in?

Who determines who gets just enough money to keep them dependent?

Who is responsible for paving potholes which have claimed at least one life this year?

Anytime you have a government literally giving away money you will have a break down in the value of an honest day's work in favor of the "gimme gimme" attitude off which crime is simply a spin-off

How did all the guns get here around the time of the last election?

Who is directly responsible for Health care quality and delivery?

Who is directly responsible for water delivery?

Who has spent $260 billion in the last 6 years with precious little to show for it?

Who has blatantly engaged in nepotism (wife and son) with disregard for what sort of message this move was sending to the public?

Who has stolen Billions of citizens money and given it to "de boys"?

Who rides around in PM1 with a motorcade on the highway doing an average of 120km but believes that 80km is fast enough for other citizens?

PBS 1 routinely travels at 140km (women drive faster I guess)

Why has the cost of a house increased 300% in the last seven years?

Who is really responsible for inflation in T&T hitting double digits (and staying there)?

I could go on...

It is the duty of the elected Government to create the conditions, climate and environment and security for citizens to become relevantly educated, motivated, productive and creative, if not they are forever fighting an uphill battle and many give up when they see the parasites living the life of Riley or just lurking in the shadows, often in broad daylight, to rob them, kidnap them, rape them or plain murder them.

Citizens can't help themselves to arms to defend themselves, afford labour to build their own homes when all the labour is channelled to URP and CPEP, build their own reservoirs and dams and run their own water mains, erect light poles and run power lines to the electricity grid, build their own health facilities and so on while their Government squanders all the money on a few mega-projects with contracts from which their friends and families are the main beneficiaries. And now if they sacrifice and manage to build a home the same "caring" Government will now endeavour to tax them into dispossession just to get some extra money to continue with the same misbehaviour in office.

Govt spends $.5m to deport Africans
Richard Charan Editor South Bureau

Saturday, October 24th 2009

Officers of the Special Anti Crime Unit of Trinidad and Tobago (SAUTT) provided security aboard an aircraft that returned dozens of Ghanian and Nigerian nationals to Africa this week.

At least 52 African nationals were locked away at the Golden Grove prison in Arouca for up to two years, having been arrested and convicted for illegally entering Trinidad.

It cost the State more than $500,000 to charter a airplane to take them home, the Express learnt.

Imprisoned Ghanians made news back in their homeland in February when they used prison cellphones to call media to report oppressive conditions.

A letter published in yesterday's Express carried an appeal by the wives of the detained Africans calling for their release.

"Please release them from prison so they can rejoin their families and continue or begin the processes of regularising their status in Trinidad and Tobago as persons legally married to locals," the letter said in part.

Many of those held made a dangerous Atlantic Ocean crossing by boat, landing on Brazil's east coast, and spending months hiding and working for money to pay their way to Trinidad.

The repatriation of the Africans was not disclosed by the National Security Ministry. News of the deportation was reported by the media in Africa on Wednesday.

Some of the Ghanians claimed that the money they had when imprisoned was not returned. They claimed to be in Trinidad, working to raise the money to pay for their final destinations-the United States and Europe.

Local Immigration Department officials have reported a growing number of illegal African immigrants slipping into the country by pirogue along Trinidad's south coast, where they make contact with a middleman who provides a hideout and the contacts to get them jobs in construction, service stations and security companies.

Many of the migrants landed in Brazil and worked their way north to Guyana and Venezuela before making the short boat trip to Trinidad.

They are being forced to make the Atlantic trip because of tough new visa requirements to get into Europe and strict enforcement of laws against illegal immigration.
