Started late. Long line southbound of TTPost. Random checks; DP, insurance.
Traffic flowing slowly, only one truck detained so far - no insurance.

Well it's over. The next dry run is scheduled for Tuesday 26th March 2009, from 8a-12p. This would be more stress due to the operational times.

Easterners. start your engines.............early!!

Details to follow.

During the exercise at Piarco, the one thing that caught my eye was the large number of drivers with expired permits and/or insurance. Some were were temp. detained and warned buy no one was charged.

Task Force debriefing exercise tomorrow; anyone has any observations or recommendations they would like to submit?

What exactly is meant by the airport will be locked down?

I supposed to have some family flying in between the 15th and 20th April.... so I kinda curious as to what will happen.

The Police used the term 'lock down' to mean restricted access. Passenger movements would require earlier arrivals - the airlines shall be notifying all passengers travelling of the access controls, which may require an even earlier check-in.

Departing Heads of Govt flights are expected from 19-20, so normal flights in/out may be temp. delayed/temp. diverted.

Arriving passengers will go through routine screening on arrival. YOU or the person collecting shall be subjected to a thorough screening - drivers' permit, insurance, tint, etc.

Security officials at the National Secretariat for the Fifth Summit of the Americas wish to advise the public that a dress rehearsal will take place on Sunday March 29, 2009 from 10a.m. to 2p.m. from the Piarco International Airport to the Hyatt Regency Hotel on Wrightson Road, Port of Spain.

The rehearsal will comprise all operational systems associated with the Fifth Summit of the Americas including logistics; essential services; accommodation; communications; protocol; emergency services and transportation.

On Sunday convoys will simulate the movement of Heads of State and Government and their delegations from the airport to the Hyatt.

During the rehearsal traffic flow will be restricted in the following areas:

* The East-Bound Lane of the Churchill Roosevelt Highway will be converted to a dual carriageway

*The West-Bound Lane of the Churchill Roosevelt Highway will be used by vehicles in the convoy

*Abercromby Street East; Tragarete Road North; Ana Street West and Wrightson Road South will be controlled areas since they encompass the yellow, blue and red zones in Port of Spain.

The dress rehearsal will afford those involved in the Fifth Summit of the Americas which takes place from April 17-19, 2009, the opportunity to understand how each service will be deployed during the event.

Security officials at the National Secretariat are appealing to the public for their cooperation during the exercise on Sunday March 29, 2009 and apologise for any inconvenience caused.
