Any Civic VTI-S 1.7 owners out there

Looking at investing in one of the local 03/04 VTI-S 1.7.

Any issues with these?

Any problems with the CVT transmission?

none what so ever but the dohc is a lot faster than the single cause we have 2 civics and the dohc pulls even in reverse the sheit is fast.....

Me too I have a local 03/04 VTi-S 2.6 (DOHC iVTEC)

So far no problems with my 6fwd gearbox :lol:

What's the recommended service period/mileage for the CVT transmission oil changes?

I take it the VTI-S in a SOHC. There wasn't any SIR for this year.

Kezay: no offence eh bro, but you're in a different class, you don't count with us average joe's

sweeks: the CVT tranny will give problems eventually, trust me on this, but proper care will pro-long it's service (talk to Nick at Wynn's on this he'll give you the best maintenance advice 663-1917), that aside it should be a very reliable car (it's a civic after all). not sure how it performs against it's older brother the SIR though, but I know other tuners have rated anything after the last SIR as a bit too costly as opposed to what you get in the package.

Sweeks local 03 civic/04 civics are real sweet and easy to care for. Performance is superior also.

bought a 03 Exi today and it is indeed money well spent.

I heard once the CVT works well, it pulls sweet..... better than a regular auto.

I know Ramoutar's in Chaguanas repair them but opinions vary as to how reliable they are after that, personally I don't know anyone who had one repaired. finding a replacement CVT tranny is sometimes difficult and may run you into as much as 5k, then the fluid 6-8 quarts @ $70 together with the installation cost is another issue, I had work done at Jetton in Aranguez 675-0248 (ask for Rory) and Automatic transmission services in St James 628-2886, they can give you better advise at to what repairs to your model may cost.

As for the CVT working well and pulling sweet, when it's working well that's for dam sure, when my tranny went I changed out to another CVT tranny inspite of adivse otherwise (I'm harden like that), but the bloody thing moves like a beast

everybody bumping their gum about Honda's CVT, i had one for a few years and not a problem!!! that 1.7 VTi-S is REAL lazy for a 1.7 VTEC......but a very reliable car!

Like everything else, regular maintenance and servicing of the CVT is the key to trouble free running.

That's true,wifey has the 'normal' 1.5 LEV and it works beautifully. I have never owned an auto, but from those comparable ones that I've driven,it does pull stronger and smoother. Throttle response is better than regular tranny as well IMHO.

Have a Stream with K20B and CVT....have to get used to driving a CVT....no downshift...power just comes on strong, smooth and continuous.....scared the crap outta me the first time I opened it up on the highway
