WTK - problem with brakes

Postby justwhatuseeing » May 16th, 2007, 9:29 am

hey, i'm running the mivec brakes set up on my lancer...and noticed that when i'm on high speed and looking to slow down quickly..my steering starts to shake up as well as the brake peddle as well...
have anyone else experienced this problem that can possibly shed some light..thanks

Possible that your rotors are warped.... You may need to replace them, if not machine them...

If you are macshing the pedal right down, then that is probably the ABS working. It feels like a pulse because the pads are grabbing and releasing quickly to prevent the wheels from locking up and skidding. If you are activating the ABS regularly you are driving very danerously my friend, please be careful.

Couldnt that also be as a result of your rotors being warped and the disc pads cutting unevenly???

It wouldn't be the ABS if it's comming from his steering also, it's his rotors which are warped.you could either get them machined or buy new ones...

Yeah i was getting that problem, when my disc pads got worn down. Because they were cut unevenly cause of the rotors, the steering and pedal vibrated when i hit the brakes. I recently got the rotors machined and the problem has been solved.

Well since i got the car the rotors were bad. The mechanic advise me to machine it but to go easy on it for the first couple of weeks. I did it the same time i changed all the bushings and so far so good.
When the house expenses are done i should be getting a set of slotted cross drilled rotors.

Assuming you did an upgrade to the stock lancer.... it is possible your rotors are warped. It might be possible to machine them, but might be better to replace them...

^^Well to clear up the question of what "might" be wrong, do a simple dial guage "run-out" check on the surface of the rotors to see if they are warped.

This will also let U know how badly they are warped, so U know if a 4 thou cut on either side will fix the problem, or if new rotors are in order.

ignorance is a bliss some people say and you should assume the role to stay quiet when you don't know better.

well from the responses i've been getting...i am guessing that the rotors are warped...but the thing is, the disc pads on the rotors are cutting evenly and the rotor is smooth..but how do u check to see if ur rotors are warped..how does it look when its warped?
and btw the car is non abs..

^^ See my reply above! U cannot simply eyeball the rotor to see if its true.

Go to the nearest machine shop, or get a dial guage borrow and check its runout!
