i thought:

low tuned box = high excursion below tuned freq = stress on speaker = shorter life on speaker.

you are correct

applies to ported boxes


sealed boxes do not have those issues

what about a teak or cedar box

why you could only use mdf and the saw dust board ?

Ply is not bad. Teak or cedar will not be dense enough and may rattle. MDF is dense enough to avoid resonance in higher frequencies.

So What box is best for full range like good highs and wicked Lows without bein a sub killer?

You should have a properly tuned Subwoofer in one enclusure and your front stage at the fron of the car.

i think wha Sepi was asking is whats a good overall port tuning to get both d lows & highs - i would say mid 30s for my personal taste ....... :fadein:

out of curiosity how do you guys tune a box/port for a particular frequency ?

it have computer software that gives you calculations for those kinda stuff pugboy

I thought that a box is actually an alignment(according to thiele/small) and the port tuning is for that alignment + speaker parameters

I could be wrong but I believe that if you go changing the port tuning using whatever method it throws other things out of whack ie out of alignment
