who remembers when gg came on the scene and was telling everybody go apply for gun too?
he was even on sandra show a few times talking bout ful,
that backlog still pending

if sandra is serious he will put a system where applicant can check where they are in the line
proper first in first out

If they serious they'll put a committee dealing with applications alone and take out the one man to decide over 25000 applicants system.

GG was on TV with he turncoat boys nahous and Barnes taking about how easy the process is. Went for a free consult by him and ended up walking out feeling poor

Friends,

Remember the new system must incorporate priority for the processing fees.

Must.

Money have to make back.

I honestly believe it should be my constitutional right as a law abiding citizen to own a FUL, once I meet the requirements and have a clean track record. Protecting my home and family should be my right as a citizen. If you don’t agree with owning a firearm, then do not apply for one. When bandit come…call TTPS and wait, hope it works out in your favour

unfortunately it’s not in the constitution of this land do you can only wish that

it’s not about waiting to shoot a bandit
that time should never come
it should be that
bandits should be afraid to enter knowing their targets are armed
that’s how it is in jamaica

Jason i agree.

But there will be problems with a generally irresponsible population.

You cannot appear to be “law abiding” and meeting easy “requirements” but cannot even follow simple rules, laws and regulations.

We have had air rifles in Trinidad for generations and way more than firearms because it's automatically approved once you produce a coc

Today's air rifles are semi auto, more powerful, carry a higher shot count and offer more consistent power per shot. And we haven't had many mishaps with these, and they can probably be counted on one hand how many these has been over the last half century.

This is probably due to the fact that you can't carry a long gun to the bar or caura were alcohol is present and it's unwieldy to use in a road rage incident.
If the govt wants to allow citizens to have a home defense shotgun or low caliber rifle to be kept at home I see no issue in grafting it along the same lines as air rifles

Some newer air rifles could probably be tuned to be almost as powerful as a 22lr and real rich kids have those, again with no incident of misuse

it still lies in the decision of whoever the commissioner is
is she admitting that she will issue a directive for them to expedite?

Cops will ask to see your place, no fixed requirements but fenced property, cameras, lighting etc gives an impression of security. Then there's the mandatory medical, vision and psych evaluation.
They'll of course ask why you want the firearm and this is your time to impress. If you have been a victim of home invasion and have police report receipts, footage etc present this. For hunting or pest control have proof of same e.g hunting permits or land deed.
It's just like a job interview where you have to sell yourself and then they make a recommendation based on their findings which is sent to the COP.
Wait a couple weeks and see what ammendements they're making to the laws and then apply based on same but get your COC and forms 1 and 16 in the meantime (must get those from govt printery in Caroni)

hmm so you have to already be a victim of home invasion or crime? i think i saw a news clip where they said a FUL was refused cuz someone wasn't a victim- that so foolish. cuz some ppl get rape and some didnt survive there 1st home invasion and they dead but only now they can qualify  i hope UNC change dat policy.

Excellent post alfy, excellent.

I totally agree….the Air Rifles are perfect for home defense and there is also no need for too many Trinis to have firearms where alcohol is present and in cases of road rage where these Trini jackasses will want to pull gun and any and everything and further endanger the lives of the innocent.

Let the TTPS handle the stories on the outside, let the citizens handle their stories on the inside. There is no need for irresponsible citizens with a personal carry in public.

Jeezus crice no, too soon Tanty.

We have a sheit system in place that has not been revamped with a uncontrollable backlog with “files” all over the damn place.

Encouraging citizens to apply without a properly structured system in place will just cause further chaos and a ton of more paperwork added to the heap.

Do we have the staff to manage and accept the large volume of applications?

they have 1 office- should be an office in every location/division with the respective DCP having authority to grant FULs - so Firearms Act have to change.

Yep, should be.

So until they implement their process, they should have said to apply “soon”.

a 177 pellet won’t have knock down effect unfortunately
mind you a powerful pcp could make real noise

When I mentioned small caliber rifles I was thinking along the lines of 22lr rim fire. But even in air rifles, allow citizens to own a .357 Benjamin bulldog and you'll see the effects
