The position calls for a master degree along with seniority. GG was the only exception as he was from military background. Not many young officers possess a master degree and the ones that do simply do not have the experience. Also not many want that stress. So there's that as well.

The PSC has written to the Office of the President recommending that CoP Erla Harewood-Christopher cease to report for duty and cease to dispense her responsibilities with effect from Jan 31st.

The have also recommended that DCP Benjamin and Simon be considered as nominees for the position of CoP (Ag).

Can't erla challenge this? There wasn't enough evidence to charge her so why can't she resume duties, after dragging the woman name in the mud to having her in limbo like this. I would love to hear the reason why , this is breach of contract on the TTPS part. I not a fan of erla but right is right and wrong is wrong. Using the same logic that they applying here why isn't imbert seen as unfit to be minister of Finance when 3 billion dollars was discovered missing by the auditor general and law lords from a whole different country questioned why isnt he under investigation.

Auditor General matter is different but that's another story.

If the docs circulating online is correct, the Police Service Commission revoked Erla's appointment 24 or so hours after her arrest and while she was being detained at St Clair police station last friday. PSC acted as if they were expecting her to be charged for misbehavior in public office.

Since the DPP said "nah" and she was released, the PSC now looking like fools for acting before any charges were laid.

Can Erla challenge this? I'm guessing an injunction against the Commission at this point making this whole appointment process null and void?

My theory was right... Pamela Elder SC is planning to file injunctive proceedings against the PSC if the suspension letters are not rescinded by tomorrow at 2pm. I'm guessing it would be filed before any debate happens in parliament on wednesday evening where the matter becomes sub judice.

Why was DCP Suzette Martin allowed to function when she was charged, but Earla suspended even though she wasn't charged?

This question was posed to Deputy Commissioner of Police Junior Benjamin at a press briefing held by the TTPS on Monday, February 3rd, 2025.

Benjamin was also asked who gave the orders to arrest and detain Commissioner Harewood-Christopher, and he responded that such a question should be directed to DCP Intelligence and Investigations, Suzette Martin.

Martin was charged with dangerous driving after the unmarked police SUV she drove struck a 13-year-old schoolboy on the Priority Bus Route in San Juan on April 18th, 2023.

At that time, Martin was the senior superintendent in charge of the Professional Standards Bureau.

She was subsequently elevated to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police after Parliament approved her nomination for the post on March 2024.

The Opposition UNC objected to Martin's nomination citing the pending criminal offence before the court.

The Government voted 18 in favour while 14 UNC MPs voted against the motion.

The DPP, in December 2024, discontinued the charges against Martin, citing a lack of evidence.
